I posted the same comment on another video and was chastised by another poster who thought that idea was dumb because ramp maintenance was the city/county/ state responsibility. Too many experts with no common sense. Let’s wait for the local government clean up crew to show up is a much better idea then spending 5 minutes with a $10 rake to make your day easier.

If you are having trouble getting up the ramp it just makes sense to get people especially full grown adults out of the boat, reduces the weight.

The one thought that I always have when watching these pull outs is: isn't there an attendant, ranger, or someone that manages this park that can either sweep or hose the slippery cover back into the water as the tide lowers? Even just someone who does it voluntarily that receives tips or something. Baffles me. I guess if that happens, there wouldn't be much excitement for Miami Boat Ramps. Those kayakers need to slow down!! Haha.

I'll agree with having a flexi steel-tine rake and stiff bristle push broom for prepping the ramp surface, but something else a 2WD pickup driver can do (besides having a rear axle limited slip or locker), is to have several hundred pounds of extra weight in the rear of the bed. A big rig truck innertube can be cut into two tubular sections, filled with sand, and the ends folded over and screwed closed. Several of those in the bed will add considerable weight. Water can be used for weight, but a filled 5 gal jug only weighs a little over 40 lbs.

50 years ago when I was in the timber business, we frequently welded railroad track iron to the back of our trucks for better traction. Don’t know if it would’ve helped him, but it letting some air out of the rear tires to improve traction used to be a common practice, worth a try.

I grew up in Camino Island in the San Juan Islands in Washington state and lived right on the water. I made it small fortune as a very young man, running the skiff over to the local state park, and either dragging back voters that had engine failures or we’re having trouble getting their boats out of the water. seaweed is slick. There’s no doubt about it the best way to do this is to make sure you got a cocaptain that’s competent enough to be able to do a power out end of story.

Pick-up drivers are a funny lot, especially the 2wd drivers. They all think that a pick-up is the ultimate towing vehicle, when in fact, they are not. Your average 2wd pick-up has about 55-60% of the weight in front, which is why we see these clowns trying to get off the ramp. Far superior would be a full-size SUV, such as a Ford Expedition or Chevy Tahoe or Suburban. More weight on the back tires- better traction. And for God's sake, buy something with an electric locker rear or with a limited slip diff..
