Great video. I’ve had mine for 6 months now. Be careful of using the the SD card slot. I wish they placed it at a different spot because it has the potential of not working eventually because of the heat the system emits. Hopefully you have a unit where they fixed it. Other than that it’s been a great system.
I am not really a gamer but something about the asus rog ally intrigued me. I bought the z1 version open box for $339. I figured out how to configure it. Now I am seeing the Z1 extreme version can be bought for $485. Is it worth it (at my level to pay an extra $146 for the extreme model. When I buy something, I am usually a long term keeper.
Ashley, there are a lot of people who bash Ally dont listen to them too much. The only drawback of ally is just the battery life and the bad placement of SD card slot, steam deck oled cant run amd latest fluid motion which is going to be released at end of January. This will almost DOUBLE the fps u get currently and works on every game. FSR 3 is also in the making, its a great time to have the ally. I am just kinda curious about the MSI Claw.
So far my battery life has been good I guess because I play in save mode most of the time, I will admit the SD card is in a very bad spot! The MSI Claw looks so sleek!! & every game🤯!!! Why am I just hearing about this
Yeah but a lot of games don't work on steam OS. Also a lot of games can't be played online because of anti cheat thing not being compatible with Linux.
Nice review. I have mines about 4 months now took me away to get use to get lol now I got to upgrade my SSD harddrive. I need more storage lol one more thing I’m interesting buying a case & bumper case like the one you have but I need to find out where you got yours from.
Thank you! 💜 Yes the controls took me a minute to get used to but once you get the hang of it it's worth having. I got my bumper case from Best Buy as well as my travel case. I'll eventually get a screen protector from amazon
@@ashleyshrae The Ally is a great device! I've personally never had good luck with ASUS, but your experience may be different. The Ally definitely has more power under the hood but I've had a way better experience with my Steam Deck overall. I was up and playing a game within 30 minutes of unboxing it, no futzing around with Windows requried.
Users complaining about heat is because they neglect the system and tend to stress the system beyond it. Just turn on system monitoring and take notice of the temperature not to go beyond it. Games like baldur gate 3 WILL make it go to 95c unless you turn up the fan curve and 95c its bad in my view. I also suggest making your own custom tdp in the armory crate so you can adjust the fan curve as you wish. It gets a bit loud but the tradeoff being your ally gets a lot cooler than the standard fan curve that comes with the system.

I got rid of mine and bought a steam deck oled. Not as powerful but much more user friendly.

Oh Asus and their heat issues. They finally fixed the G15 / G14 lineup years later only to repeat the same mistakes on the Ally lol
