Hello Foragers! An imposter called Telegram Me @ Catch n Cook CA is attempting to scam people in the comments! Please do not be fooled! I really wish people would just get a job rather than resorting to crime but this is the world in which we live. They have been reported, but in the meantime beware!
I also have been using that one knot all my life and I started fishing back in the 1970's, I know it as a 'fisherman's knot' and learned it off of the back of a lure box. It's about the only knot I ever use. Great video Kevin, Love your passion for the outdoors, and eating!
You make some of the most educational and informative fishing content on RUclips. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your depth of knowledge. I found you from Fisherman's Life's channel.
Cool tip to save your fish if the weight gets snagged - tie it with a 10 lb test swivel. Small extra step that will save you a fish as the swivel will snap and the hook and upper rig will survive.
I came here from fisherman’s life channel. Dude I really enjoyed that colab you did with him. I think I might’ve found my new favorite channel. As a fish and wildlife major It’s refreshing to see that someone actually knows what they’re talking about scientifically. Keep it up! Cheers
Thanks Jacob! Glad you found us! My brother is a fisheries biologist so our broader friend-group conversations often revolve around topics of human interactions with the environment, fish and wildlife. A bit of anthropology, a bit of biology and a bit of ecology... I get to learn something new each time we all get together!
Very nice Lingcod from the rocks! Congratulations on that catch.. People don't realize how satisfying it is to catch something that big from the shore LOL Also very nice arrangement of forage on that plater..Good job Kev 👍🏼
Double meat animal style...lol I appreciate the instructional portion on the knots you used. I agree with you, the improved clinch knot is the only knot you need to master to fish anywhere. I've caught everything up to bluefin tuna on that knot. Yes, there are better knots out there but none as quick to use and master as the improved clinch knot.
There's a fine line between fishing and looking like an idiot. As someone who uses 12 lb mono main, I do like me some fine lines. Makes pulling in a big one more fun, can't force it, you have to play with the fish. That shore lunch looked amazing, can never go wrong with fried fish.
Love your videos Kevin, thank you for sharing it. One thing I might add unless you did and I missed it is that if stung by stinging nettles. Spread some mud from where the stinging nettle grows and it will take the sting away immediately. For those that are sensitive to it.
Thanks for sharing this Great video with us Kevin. I learned so much about fishing and foraging, thanks so much for the instruction. Nice to see your colleague along and sharing their expertise and enjoying in the Fun of hanging out with you. The meal looked absolutely delicious, looking forward to the next one. 😍🎣🌿🍄👍
Thanks! Editing the next video now... but before it drops we are headed to the Fisherman's Life Street Fair this Saturday where we will have a booth discussing our guided foraging and such!

💛...if you have leftover batter, the mushrooms would make a good tempura... or, hushpuppies... as far as the nettles go, i was out near a creek when i noticed the faint odor of mint...liking the fragrance of crushed mint, i reached out to grab a couple leaves...it wasn't mint...
I do not believe so but they are clearly closely related! Cloudberries seem adapted to produce low growing vegetation and rapid fruiting due to a short arctic growing season.
I'm not trying to be a jerk so please don't be upset, but your voice is so quite and then your music kicks in here and there and boom it's really loud, I'm not sure what's wrong but it's not that fun trying to listen to you and understand and then boom there goes my ears 😁

if you ever have kids do your foraging trip, charcoal rubbings would be great to do. Cements the info and they have something to take back.
That is a great idea!
That's not the knots I grew up with. But, I'll be using them in the future! Thanks Kevin.

Terrific!!
Me, in an ossuary in Limassol, Cyprus, surrounded by baby archaeologists "But have you heard of Kevin, tho"
Wow, that looks amazing!
That's a feast fit for a king. Ling was one of my father's favourite fish. Great in a fish soup. Cheers from Australia
Nice! What went in the fish soup? We do some Asian fish soups, but I am always looking for new recipes!

So how far north are you actually? Crescent City? That is far, far, far north. Beautiful ling!
Enjoy the videos you do a lot. How do I find out about you guided trips?
Jon if you email me at catchncookca@gmail I can get you on the email list and provide details!
Got my subscription this was a great video.
Thank you!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 You're welcome. I know it takes countless hours to put these videos together.
I'd like to plan a trip for the low tide around September 9th in Northern California. Are you available to lead us?
Thanks for the interest! If you email me at catchncookca@gmail we can chat details.

When you are cooking in the field, what do you do with the used cooking oil?
It is good to let it cool and put back in the container. You can fry fish twice with it before it starts tasting old.
Is a salmon berry the same as a cloudberry?😅
I do not believe so but they are clearly closely related! Cloudberries seem adapted to produce low growing vegetation and rapid fruiting due to a short arctic growing season.
Will they hang out at jetties too?
Absolutely! Try to get as far down the jetties as possible so you are fishing deeper water where less people fish. They are there!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 Thank you!
Is it true male stinging nettle is purple or yellow, female is green and white? The flowers that is.
I have never noticed but now I will have to pay attention!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 heck yeah man. Love your videos.
hello
cinch knot has more tensile strength than the improved one. just sayin'. science.
Greg, I have never tried it... guess I have to now
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 trilene knot is the winner tho. one extra loop on the shank of the cinch.
