I was stationed in Asia in the late 80's to early 90's and even then it surprised me how much written English where was. I saw much less in places like Sasebo/Nagasaki, but still... you're correct, with the Olympics there's probably a ton MORE now. I saw the same thing happen in downtown Seoul for the 88" Olympics.

Why are there so many signs written in English?
Tokyo 2020... the Olympics, besides the american air forces bases. It's a Japanese thing anyway, they love to put signs up no matter what lasnguage.
I've never thought about that before. English has blended into our life, but most japanese people can't speak English. haha
