Trouble with many piston pens that don't have a lockout mechanism of some sort, like pulling the false cap out first before it will turn the piston.

My favorite clear demostater would be a noodlers nib creaper due to its size and compact flexible nib. It’s a joy to write with and fun to flex the times out

HI David! The first two fountain pens that I ever bought were both demonstrators: a Kaweco Classic Clear and a TWSBI ECO, and they remain the only two demonstrators that I have since I have since become fascinated by other non-demonstrator pens. But my two demonstrators are always inked up. Narwhal pens are pretty difficult to get in Australia but I've always thought them to be very interesting every time you review one!

My favorite demonstrator i've seen is the demonstrators for the Pelikan 100N. Back in the early 1900s they didn't have clear plastics to machine so they bored out holes/windows in the regular model of pen to demonstrate its function. :)

My favorite clear demonstrator that I own is the Opus 88 Koloro Demonstrator. It's thicc, wet writing, comfy to use, and the one-way shutoff valve makes it convenient for me to take places I wouldn't bring an ordinary eyedropper!

I’ve been looking at transparent demonstrators for school (and for me because I’m a big kid.) i had been looking at Lamy and TWSBI because I think the kids would be fascinated by the mechanisms inside and seeing the ink sloshing around inside. It would be a special treat for the kiddos who earn a calligraphy session to practice and improve their handwriting with me on Fridays.

Recently I came into possession of two TWSBI Minis (F & M nibs) and have been enjoying them. Really smooth nibs, big ink capacity and easy maintenance. No issues if not used for a few days. I also like the fact that when posted, it does not interfere with the fill knob.

One of my best finds at a small brick and mortar store was a Pelikan M200 clear demonstrator (2012 SE). It was mid-2017 and available for the MSRP (which had gone up for similar pens in their lineup over 5 years). M200s are a little small, but it was exciting to find something I wasn't expecting. The store was in Louisville and when I was passing though again in 2019, it was no longer open.

My fav type of fountain pens are the demonstrators! This Narwhal Demonstrator is just gorgeous. Been in love with demonstrator designs since I was a kid, discovering fps for the first time. I was so excited that I was finally able to buy one, used, now that I'm in college. I love seeing the interior mechanisms and the ink swishing around. I catch myself just inspecting every part of the pen sometimes in class 😅
My grail pen is def the Conid Bulkfiller King-size 😍 I'll make sure to save up for it after graduation, no matter how long it will take me haha

They did a great job making this so VERY clear, something many don't do with the cap. Currently my favorite demonstrator pen is the TWSBI mini, you can never go wrong with a TWSBI.
Their demonstrator is nice but their pens that are clear with the color, like the other models you showed, look so much better.I love that they give you a wrench, making disassembly possible, but to me treating their customers as adults that are allowed to take the pen apart.

  • @groupsixpartners9495
    @groupsixpartners9495 3 года назад

Ive been very impressed by TWSBIs Diamond 580 as my favorite clear demonstrator. I disassembled the piston once for a thorough cleaning and adding silicon. It was a bear to reassemble and I needed to watch several videos very closely to return it to full function. The piston knob remains annoyingly loose- but function is restored. Additionally, I can easily swap nibs on the 580 from the tiny EF to the usual medium. Like you mentioned - the ink changes the look of the pen. I have several other translucent pens - but I’d consider a perfectly clear demonstrator to be a true demonstrator as it reveals so much.
I like the completely clear cap on this Narwhal over the tinted colors of the TWISBI - for that full view of the resting nib.
A fine review - your ink collection is massive. Thank you 😊

I have been waiting for the review and the pen. Finally! And to say that the clip has a narwhal on it now. Little pointed end looks like the horn ..! I think Ranga Bamboo makes for one beautiful demonstrator pen. The pen comes in two finishes, matte and clear. You should review it David!

I have a couple of demonstrators, and my favourite is the TWSBI diamond 580. I love the facets in it, and how nice it is to see the ink in all the different parts of the pen. I also like the Moon Man M2, because it's an eyedropper pen, but I find that they are a little bit fragile. The cap tends to crack because there's no metal band at the bottom edge.

My only demonstrator at the moment is the Vista by Lamy. It would be neat to have one with a fully integrated piston system like this Narwhal, especially since it has a fine nib that isn't scratchy. I also love it that they have progressed in the opposite direction from most pen manufacturers when it comes to laser engraving versus stamping. A lot of manufacturers are switching from stamping to laser engraving even on some very expensive models. Not just pens, either, but watches too. Narwhal deserves kudos for adopting a more artisanal look in spite of their very reasonable prices.

Thank you for reviewing the Narwhal Original Demonstrator. I must confess that I have never had a "demonstrator" before. But I have always liked the looks of some of the Visconti Homo Sapiens such as the Midnight in Florence with the semi transparent bodies. Yes, they are not true demonstrators, but still show the ink in a lovely way.

My favorite demonstrator in my collection is also my favorite pen at the moment: the Pilot Custom 823. It’s maybe more “transparent” than “demonstrator,” but it’s still my current favorite. I’ve always wanted to try/own a Pelikan M805 special edition demonstrator, though, and there are some Franklin-Christoph models I wouldn’t mind trying...

When I first got [back] into fountain pens I didn't like the idea of demonstrators. Then I realized how long we've been using those clear BIC pens and better understood the practicality of knowing exaxtly how much ink remains in my pen.
I've been considering a TWSBI 580 in Prussian or Smoke/Rose but another option is very appealing.
Thanks for a concise, comprehensive, rewiew as always.

I managed to grab one of the last few pelikan m205 demonstrators still available from European retailers. I couldn't be happier, the broad nib writes even better than my other pelikan. My favorite clear demonstrator is the TWISBI Diamond 580 Prussian Blue. A few years ago I knocked my regular diamond 580 off my table and the body of the pen broke. My favorite demonstrator is probably my Opus 88 Demonstrator. It is a smooth writer, and I love the combination of the frosted body and the clear ends. Even though it's large, I find it comfortable in the hand. I have a bold nib on it and really enjoy it. However, partial fills are a good idea--that pen holds enough ink to write a novel!

My favorite demonstrator is my Pilot Custom Heritage 92 with an MF nib. I picked it up at Kingdom Note in Tokyo, Japan. They sell a lot of interesting pens, but this one is particularly special to me for two reasons: I bought it on the opposite side of the planet, and it was manufactured in 2012 (which I learned by checking Pilot's nib stamping, thanks to Figboot).

Hi, I’m not that much into “demonstrator” fountain pens and the only two I own are a TWSBI 580 ALR nickel and a TWSBI VAC 700 R. I must say they are nice looking and very reliable writers. Very recommendable. This NARWAL seems to me as good a performer as the aforementioned pens. Pity that NARWAL pens are not easily available in Europe so far. David, keep your well doing going.

Noodler's Nib Creaper Truk Lagoon is my favorite demo. Small and lightweight all transparent pistol filler with ebonite feed and flex nib, it smells nice too. The colour is the best colour I have ever seen in a demonstrator, it is a very light green/blue like seaglass, the only downside to this pen is it has a very small ink capacity for the amount that it uses but I don't mind this because I can just refill it every few days.
That pen is nice but I really want that ink you've got in it, it looks very unusual being an interesting opaque colour in the pen.

As a rather new fountain pen lover/collector I vowed that I would never own a demonstrator. Just too industrial looking and not particularly pretty. However, I saw a Moonman S5 eyedropper and felt an attraction. It's now one of my favorite pens and was followed by the Moonman M2. I am really enjoying them but thought that would be it. Demonstrators and similar translucent fountain pens are one of the coolest body types IMHO. To boot, they are practical to follow ink usage and diagnose any problems. Thanks FoP for the interesting vid and giveaway.

My favourite demonstrator is the afforementioned TWSBI Eco because its a reasonably inexpensive pen with available with a relatively nice stub nib which even my work environment in the German steel industry can't beat up.

Great review! I love the clear demonstrator, it would be a nice addition to my small fountain pen collection!! I am relatively new to the fountain pen world, and I learn a lot from reviews like yours. I personally have a TWSBI ECO and would like the Lamy demonstrator as well as the Narwhal. I agree with your observation regarding the posted cap. Keep up the great work!

I have not yet taken a step into "next level" fountain pens, but I am over the moon about my two TWSBI Ecos. I have a 1.1 stub Eco inked up with Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrün, and I cannot stop writing with it. It's my favorite ink in my (current) favorite pen.

This would be a great addition to a collection. I have a Pilot Prera which essentially a demonstrator, as well as all 3 of my TWSBIs are demonstrators. Thanks for the great review as usual.

I love demonstrators. My TWSBI 580 Prussian Blue is my go to but my Sailor Compass Clear has an amazing clear feed that exemplifies the ink used. The 580 is my most expensive pen.

My interest in fountain pens started over 50some years ago but thanks to the persuasive powers of the Internet, my casual interest since 2016 has turned into an obsession. This pen would be so amazing to add to my modest collection.

The demonstrator I use the most is my Opus 88. I love all of my demonstrators and have quite a few!

I like the Moonman C1 demonstrator used as an eye dropper pen, best way to show off ink. Or the Pilot Custom 823 for everyday writing.

I don't own any demonstrator pens but I've had my eye on the twisbi ecos for a while now and the moonman M2 or C1. Love the idea of seeing the ink in full view.

Thanks for the review. Narwhal pens have been on my eye for a while now and it was nice to view your video about one of their models.
I have several demonstrators: TWSBI mini classic, eco clear, 580 ALR; pilot prera, Kakuno clear; m200 Smokey Quartz... But I do favor my Lamy Vista.
I just like how it feels on my hand and see the silver LAMY logo shine.

I’m not sure it counts as a demonstrator, but your review of the Visconti Crystal Dream was compelling, so I’ll mention that here. Thanks for the thoroughness of your reviews.

    David,
Thanks for all the reviews you do. I have shared many of your videos with friends how are interested in learning more about fountain pens.
My favorite demonstrator I have is the TWSBI eco, but one I would to get some day is the Additive Pens Double Helix. I first learned about that pen from a review you did on it last year.

My favourite would be either the PenBBS 469 in snow or 471 in fireworks. I love being able to see the ink move and I'm also a sucker for pretty nibs.

The pen I like the most in demonstrator would be the TWSBI 580 (in Purple!) AL R. I know it's not a totally clear pen, but the purple accents it has makes it even more appealing to me.
Enjoyed the review as always David!
    Thanks!

I LOVE demonstrator fountain pens! I have some Platinum Preppies, I could get rid of those annoying "labels" from the barrel with nailpolish remover, I eyedroppered them just with a little bit of silicon grease - BAMM! Reliable demonstrator pens with huge ink capacity!

Oh gosh, that pen is totally my aesthetic. I just love how simple, yet interesting demonstrator pens look. My first demonstrator is my Pelikan M805, then I added it's little brother, the M205. Tbh, they're my go to pens cause I absolutely love the look of demonstrators. As usual, you always have such detailed reviews and I love this episode! Now thinking what ink to pair with this pen if I'm lucky enough to win this 🤔 🙏🏼
