I am a Lamont and he does not tell the horrors... murder yes but women and children hung from trees.. Campbells killed many other too I understand by talking to many Scottish people. Horrible. I would love to live in Dunoon. I felt at home there... Went to a gathering of a bunch of Lamonts, a wonderful dinner and when others from all over were dancing, I was taking photos. There were many, like 50 orbs in those photos. Guess our ancestors where there too...

After much research, I've learned that Lamont is actually pronounced "LAM-mint".
The full story (as much as is currently known) about this massacre is truly horrific. The Campbells were a much larger clan, but still took the most devious and cowardly route to conquer and annihilate the Lamonts. Absolutely no honor in what they did.

I'm descendant of Lamont...supposedly the correction for saying it wrong " La- MONT" is to say "It's Lammint dammit! Gets it closer than the French way I spose.

We are far and wide brother.
We (Mainly all highland clans) were pushed out or rather forced to emigrate overseas from scotland around the 1800s onwards by England for the land to be used for farming, Our ancestors were all very handy and skilled meaning for opportunity in new lands! In which so we did thus today Lamonts and decendants of the O'Neill Dynasty are found far and wide through out western countries being found in Usa, Canada, Australia and many more being linked with the last name. It is awesome 😊

@TheObeseMonkey Thanks for the info. My grandfather never said anything about his parents. Didn't even know I was Scottish up until a couple years ago. My mother didn't have a clue. My grandfather passed in the early 90s. And since he never mentioned anything about his parents, its been very hard trying to find any

I am a descendant as well. My grandmother was a Sitlington (derived from Lamont when they left Scotland for Ireland) before marriage and they all live in maine. Coincidentally, most of my grandfathers family originated from Quebec. They visit often.

The castle pictured is a modern one constructed in the 1800s, the ruins of Castle Toward which was sacked by the Campbells is located further inland.

I have been working on my family tree and I come from the Lamont clan. When they changed names, my ancestor went with Sitlington and the name stopped with my paternal grandmother. Interestingly enough, one of my Lamont’s was married to a Campbell woman in the mid 1500s. 2 of my direct ancestors died june 3 1646 in the massacre

I'm a Lamont descendant too, I've been digging into the Sitlington line, I Don't think there's any left with that surname. Sad.

    Riddled with inaccuracies.
The “castle” shown at the start is castle house in Dunoon but not Dunoon castle. From there on, it’s downhill…….
