94.5 SPM of space science?
Sharp eye :) With the legacy rocket silo 100 launches, I stacked up quite a bit more space science compared to the others. The base is designed with space science in mind though, in the next ep I'll add new rocket silo's for the space science. I'm going to achieve 94,5 space science per minute by the highly scientific way of a single wire connection saying "launch a rocket whenever there's less space science in buffer than yellow science"
@@MichaelHendriks Yeah! Science!
From what I understand, underground belts are treated more as a container than a belt, and so inserters can pick up from them a lot faster
And from what I understand: It is because undergrounds end a bit before a normal belt, making the items end up closer to the "hand" of the inserter, so it needs less movement to pick up an item.
I think this has more to do with the fact that inserters can only take items from the far (above) side of the underground conveyor. Because of this, they don't have to drag across the entire pipeline diagonally, which results in inserters using both sides of the belt with the same priority.
ily
from what I understand, it's that there are only 2-4 valid pickup locations on an underground belt end, and so instead of dancing between 15-45 different positions where an item might be, it's switching between the same 4 and getting filled like a loader from the loaders mod.
That used to be the case in an older version, but it was 'fixed' as the ability of stack inverters to instantly pickup a full hand of items was not intended.
Now its the hand position thing where grabbing from the close side is slightly slower than the far side.

Beware if you're on mobile, it's 600MB of data.
After that, continue watching the video here again from 09:58
(It's the part between 6:16 and 9:58. You need a high internet speed to watch this section in HD. (EDIT: or Dropbox may be throttling my account if too many people try to watch a 600MB file at the same time). if it still looks crappy, then download the file first)
@@MichaelHendriks Oh my god that's a lot.
@@MichaelHendriks What a legend, thank you! So much more satisfying than the bitrate hell of youtube. What other youtuber would go out of their way to upload a 3 minute clip just to make it less compressed.
@@MichaelHendriks have you considered recording at 4k? The game supports gui scaling, closeups would be in FullHD and better bitrate on RUclips
@@MichaelHendriks The file has been deleted :C
Also what do you use to record and edit now? saw you used .AVI files in a few episodes back. Recording in uncompressed AVI is kinda crazy. Have you tried using highest quality settings MKV in OBS? You should be able to record in very high bitrates if you want and if I recall correctly it can compress in lossless form as well.
Biters: hey, now that you’re not polluting our planet we can be friends.
Mike: ….no
Seems Mike already won the war. Now all that's left is to go to battle

26:12 what a time to realize the production menu has a search bar
Only took 350 hours to stop manually clicking them like an ape 🙃
Now just another quick 350 hours until you realize your handcrafting menu ALSO has a search bar ;)
@@MichaelHendriks wait WHAT
And in 350 more hours you'll notice that the trains & stations menu also has a search bar 😁
and then you will realize you can use CTRL-F shortcut...
And I still don't know how to access the production menu after 120H...
Ending video with four trains of artillery plus land based arty firing in all directions at once, is the most cliffhangerest cliffhanger of your cliffhangers.
My new 90-hour world is a massive desert and I have used your philosophy here to help reduce my pollution. Thanks!
It is my mission to convert the entire factorio playerbase to efficiency-module-lovers, muhahahaha!!
I did not realise artillery range was that expensive a research. Fortunately, you won't need a lot. I'm really curious as to how you will edit the finale.
Yeah, it doubles with each range upgrade
@@MichaelHendriks You are such a tease for not giving us the map view as the range increased! Looking forward to next week's!
Like most of the other infinite research, it doubles each time, so it starts (relatively) cheap and then gets expensive fast.
@@canebro1 yeah I never got that far
@@VladTerrible Haha, no worries, it was like my 6th or 7th game before I really got that far. The trick is to way overbuild the base materials (iron plates, copper plates, steel, and green circuits), but not overbuild science (1 science per assembler cycle (1 per second if you ignore crafting speed)) is plenty and can be sustained a long time.
Can't wait to find out how you clear out those last chunks. so easy to accidentally have artilery generate the next chunk over!
Wow, how far this series has evolved since grenading biter groups from chewing up pipe walls. Ome of your greatest series yet, for the fifth time!!
Currently cleaning my house after hosting a party, and was looking for a good video to watch whilst washing dishes. Micheal you never cease to come to the rescue with your content, thank you.
Happy Holidays to my favorite OCD Drug Dealer!
Oh wait, according to Woke Stanford teachings, we're not supposed to use the term OCD it might "offend" someone, lol!!! And you dare not call them an addict either as that can be just as offensive...
Don't mind me, I just watched a video about that while waiting for a new video in this series... I was bored with nothing better to watch...
I love when the bots all divert to a port to recharge at the exact same time
Wait, it's an episode 29?!!!! I've been watching all episodes and I thought that we somewhere near episode 9. It means there is about 12 hours in this series. Wow! I can watch your content for hours
The earlier episodes where a lot shorter, on average. It is thanks to my Patreons that I've started justifying putting more time in these videos and less time in day job work!
Beautiful work. The belts all lined up, with that rainbow effect is something special, I tell ya!
2:58 It could be because the undeground belts are shorter. Resulting in the inserters having to travel less forwards and backwards, focusing more on spinning.
reminder that fewer, faster machines at near-minimum pollution emits less pollution than many slow machines emitting absolutely minimum pollution
I had to keep module cost in mind though, as my resources are not unlimited. With unlimited resources, all tier 1/2 eff mod could be upgraded to tier 3, leaving a bit more room for an extra speed module here and there. So while every machine is at -80%, not every machine is as fast as it can be.
Keep in mind though that assemblers at -60% emit twice the pollution as assemblers at -80% (f.i. miner base: 10 pol/min, miner with 2 eff1mod (-60%): 4 pol/min, miner with 3 eff1mod (-80%): 2 pol/min). The last little bit down to the absolute minimum has a great effect.
I love the way you turned Factorio into story telling. This series is awesome and you are doing incredible work here. Thank you for that and I hope you will find lots of motivation in your life to create such masterpieces like this one!~
This makes me wonder what a power efficiency > productivity > spm/km^2 > ups optimized base would look like.
That cliffhanger was so evil and dirty that it refresh the pollution to the old bases lvl! 😫😫😆
14:46 - you know, I don't think I've ever thought to put a spidertron on that wide an array of belts... and the way you describe it.......... this, plus things like the undergrounds on green chips earlier.... there's just... something wonderful about your videos, Michael. Thank you for everything you put into them. 💗
I found your channel through the 100% very normal start series very recently, but Now I've watched all your series in just 2 weeks or so. Love it and I'm so hyped for the final episode of this one!
Binged the entire series in the last 3 days. What a journey, very well done!
Looking forward to the finale!
Thanks mate :) There's a couple more surprises in store to properly prepare for the true ending ;)
Every time I watch your vids I learn new stuff about Factorio, even after all this time... crazy fun :)
your compact bus is an affront to god and i love it
What a lovely Christmas present! Thank you!
i love that you've found such interesting strategies to survive in, and have lead us on a journey of your adaptation to what seems like insurmountable odds. the game was meant to be beaten after all. i'm never gonna play this game in this way, but i love to watch someone who does, so i can learn the cool shit they're learned.
and i haven't even mentioned the thoughful effort in visuals, timing, music, the base design ideals.... rad idea wrapped up in rad editing. great vids!!!
Thanks mate... May I ask where your name comes from? I know of "Stealthy Mountain" as the twitter account who automatically grammar-nazid users who accidentally wrote Sneak Peak... Are you somehow related?
Epic series. Made it to the latest episode in like a week of continuous watching.. So awesome and well planned!
I want to compliment you on your fun editing, scriptwork, and delivery. This is hardly a Hollywood blockbuster and you're no hotshot actor, but you've clearly put in time and effort to make this series that much more entertaining, when the premise alone could have carried it without any additional effort on your part. But now, the time is close at hand, for ultimate victory!
Ultimate victory... you mean Ultimate Green Green Peace!!!
6:10 oh it's UwU
was not hard to guess
UwU
@@XavierCat OwO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! how can you do this! THE ENDING!!
Great video as always!!
best series ever, ive learned a lot of this game from these videos.... +200 hours and i feel like a complete noob looking at those setups
Amazing way to chill prior to new year's. After an interesting period of peace, the end of times will come for the biters. I'm thrilled to witness armaggedon!
@3:12 I found that curving the belts in front of the inserters produces the same effect as using the underground inserters, and is cheaper (albeit less attractive).
detonating atomic bombs for 0.03/min of pollution absorbtion is truly next level factorio.
your knowledge of the game is just astonishing for someone who has over 500h in the game himself
that ending was great. happy new year
Is anyone else sad whenever a Michael Hendriks video ends? It's like eating the last of a pie, it always taste amazing and you wish you had more and occasionally you wish you hadn't eaten it because you know it's not good for you since your overweight and shouldn't... Hmmm, it seems I have gotten a little off track here. I don't remember the point I was trying to make... Anyway, thanks for the video Sir Hendriks.
Just binged the series never played before this has been interesting
Aaah, the ending was satisfying 😊
Only one episode left, I imagine.
The final push to world peace.
Love this series!can't wait for the next one.
I really enjoyed your CBT!! (compact bus theory)
Personally, I just use splitters to move resources across a bus until they're adjacent, because I prefer having more splitters than more headaches.
Man I love when the biters bit their last bite so I can turn on my wartime production! Oh wait, my bad…
Awsome video, can't wait for the next one
Just 94.5 spm? Dude that's kinda low :P
Jokes aside, love the series man. The way you play is absolutely brilliant! I learned a lot about Factorio just from watching this series and I enjoy every second of each episode. Keep up the great work!
28:00 Circuit network 12949? That's an impressively high number
Lol, probably has something to do with linking all the artillery chests together and moving them all the time with bots
I hope biters will be greeted with a new year next episode.
Thank you for another wonderful video!
Another great episode! Have you considered doing story driven playthroughs like this in different games? I feel like your style could work amazing in a game like dwarf fortress too!
I love this series!!
Rather than "fuzzy" position, it seems that the underground belt forces the positions on both belts to be relatively close to center of the tile, so that the inserter can just wiggle left-right to pick things up.
If you look at regular belt variant, it seems that they always pick from the left if possible, only grabbing the right if they can't grab the left. But since the distance between left and right is relatively long, it takes more time. In underground belt variant, the distance between end of left and end of right is kept low at all times.
I'm just going by visuals here.
Yees... YEESSS!! Soon, very soon! "Deplomacy" for ALL the biters! Sooon... >:3
It's time for world peas.
I mean piece!
No... wait. Peace. Peace.
With New Years right around the corner, these biters are going to get a taste of how we celebrate the New Year! Let the fireworks begin!!!
gah damn i for some reason thought you ended the series last week since the last scene was very unexpected but guess we get more content :D yeppee
I think the underground belts are actually harboring 2 circuits that the inserter can’t pick up, and so it doesn’t spend any time chasing it down the belt like it does when it’s on a belt
One way to pull items from a compact bus like this is with priority splitters. Set the filter to swap 2 adjacent ingredients to pull the belt you want closer to the side. Repeat with a "staircase" to pull a belt from anywhere to all the way to the top.
That could look pretty cool acually
is this... the most advanced spaghetti? or has it gone even further beyond, past linguini and fussili and tortellini, and become something new..?
@@ExtraRaven_ I like my spaghetti when it's made out of copper wires. Gives a rustic feeling
Always waiting for new chapters of your challenges hehehe
Killing us with a cliffhanger...
ah, such a breath of fresh air seing the factory working for better pollution instead of output
I love it! Keep it up :)
Hahaha that cliff hanger is perfect
Heh, super easy, barely an inconvenience. Liked that screenrant reference.
Im so blueballed for some biter genocide you have no idea
Thanks!
Perfect ending to the episode :)
Thinking he was playing without cliffs.
Those artillery pieces remind me so much of Total Annihilation / Supreme Commander. Good feels. :]
I remember playing skirmishes on the 4-player map with a quarter-circle of land in each corner connected at the centre by a high-ground chokepoint. I always put the AI on the hardest difficulty, then turtled up HARD. Dragon's teeth at the entryway with heavy lasers and small artillery covering the entrance - maybe even one of those doomsday lasers if I was playing the correct faction. Anti-Air lining the open sides of my land. Building my own air force, and eventually getting several big bertha's to absolutely destroy the AI.
Was it unfair - sure
Was it fun - damn right!
I CANNOT WAIT ANOTHER WEEK UGGH
Your ending...I hate you! Guess I come back to watch the next one! You produce some amazing videos. The story that goes along with the insane challenges youput yourself through is what makes this great. For some railroad challenge try 150% cliffs in an extreme distant resource railworld.
Just Q up for the next one ;) The video's got to end somewhere...
9:40. It's the bots planet, you just work there
Nice ending!
26:10 I feel you bro
Excellent video as always, but where are you based out of that you upload at 3 in the morning New York time
Europe
I have been wondering how you're gonna kill the nests in the map edges... extending a roboport tentacle remotely to laser turret them? The spider tron has a radar, so intuitively that would generate new terrain, although I don't know that for certain.
I guess I have to wait and see!
couple mods could make bots a lot more effience, like faster recharge and bigger bot battery
Thank you for your interesting video!
Love it so much!
I was literally watching bots moving those shells without realizing myself existing at that moment
zombie mode discovered
Yeah it's mesmerizing :)
It occurs to me that when you run out of resources, you could double your land area using the same techniques with a lot less trouble than it took to get this way in the first place. I wonder how long it would take to re-achieve world peace.
So for new years eve we get some pretty fireworks?
Detonating nuclear bombs to reduce pollution sounds like an Elon Musk idea.
gues he keeps the fireworks one for new years^^
Getting close to final mission complete
I maximize pollution by putting productivity modules in everything
Wow perfect time for me to wake up, uploaded 1 min ago, yt is even lying to me about only 1 comment yet i can see 4
Not a Factorio player, so I'm wondering how you're going to finish the bugs off without revealing more terrain tiles. It's an exciting thing to look forward to! :)
Cliffhanger Woooohoooooo !!!
With all those huge buffers, how are you going to check if it can sustain that 94.6 long term?
The buffers should stay full (or refill back up after other parts of the base slow down, like module production)
so ... this is 10 minutes of shifting around the dropbox area...
Technically your base is not "THE MOST GREENISH POSSIBLE". The most greenish reasonable, sure. But if you want to make it really green, you can surround everyrhing, even furances with 12 beacons with tier 3 modules and overclock it as much as possible at -80% power consumption. High speed will ensure the lowest polution per unit of production
I guess we could also pull a Spiff, throw away the miners and have hundreds of players handmining ore
@@MichaelHendriks but miners are more sustainable. Since mining productivity cost grows linearly, you could research mining productivity around 35, then build miners field and supply it with short burst of power. Green bar will fill to 0.95 while purple bar will fill 3 times. Then you deconstruct miners and build them again with bots. So you create ore from nothing but pure patience. And it creates a lot of jobs for Spiff's slaves too
Dang, you could even make that work with DaveMcW's recursive blueprints mod, I think. Unfortunately miner pollution is outputted every game tick, not after every "deserved" ore mined, so it wouldn't help for pollution
can i get blueprint from base pls
yes, there will be juice next time.
yay new vid :D
Thanks :)
whats the music on 18:46? its so... beautiful
All music is from the factorio soundtrack. This specific track is called "turbine dynamics" IIRC
@@MichaelHendriks epic, thanks
7:47 there's a line missing 😖😖
Scratches. HELP!!! I noticed it too ;)
These are still the video highlight of my week, apply this editing style to the new max biter series and I'll watch it too, but for now I guess when this ends I'm out.
Fair enough. The other series is a less-edited extra for those who want it. It takes most of my week to make an episode of this main series, so I can't apply this to both series.
We shoud bild factorys like that on earth.
travelling rn,damn this is nice
oh wow i even got a heart
Take another one :)
i have never seen that coming
