The problem was with the doctrine and not adapting based on user feedback and making incremental changes, similar to what the British did with the SA-80, from L85A1 to the current L85A3. The initial INSAS with a 20-round magazine was inherited from the SLR 20-round mag philosopy. Over time, the design should have evolved but was stuck in past philosophy. There was already a 30-round mag for the INSAS LMG, which was used in the North East with their INSAS rifle-not standard practice but based on field experience. The first lesson for degradation came from the Kargil War, and feedback should have led to changes, but only small incremental changes were made. A new rifle called the INSAS Excalibur was pitched but rejected by the Army, though it was used by the Assam Rifles, CAPF, and many state forces. The three-round burst and mag capacity don't make sense because if you fire full auto, the whole round is wasted in a few seconds. The Army could have requested more changes in developing the Excalibur and adopted those changes in their new variant of the rifle. That being said, there were a few INSAS variants with an AR-15 style mag well. By the way, there was no M4 carbine in the Vietnam War; it was some Colt's carbine. Yes, the INSAS handgrip is ugly with the saffron color, which was supposed to be safe from heat abrasion, but it was too wide for people under 5'5". Attaching rails and optics doesn't make the gun modern but on par with the current generation. Yes, the previous version had provisions for a specific style of optic mount, but the Picatinny rail solved that. Again, what optic is being mounted is also important as early INSAS optics were very basic. I beg to differ with what Samir said: AK is not just a rifle; it is a proper assault rifle like the AR series, except the mechanism is very different. The INSAS uses the long piston like the AK but better, as it has better dirt cover than the AK due to the selector lever design, which in the AK is quite susceptible to dirt. The INSAS still has its place; it is not reborn, it is just being updated to the level of standard that should have been achieved many years ago. Ps: No INSAS in Myanmar except some rebels using it.
The recoil of INSAS is about half in respect of AK- 47. Moreover , INSAS LMG has magazine capacity of 30 rds. Of ammunition and this can easily 10:50 10:50 10:50 be fitted in INSAS Rifle for firing .
The problem with Insas is that these upgrades should have been made much earlier than just now . May be like 20 years ago or just after Kargil . A picture is worth a 1000 words as they say … Keep up the pathetic show guys! You did a great job letting down the anchor and host of this show. The net result is a time-wasting affair viewing this video. Westerners are so productive in their output in contrast… even as a solo one-man operation! Just checkout the 1000s of videos out there! It’s a real shame that your team could not manage minimum statndards of production…
Reasons: 1) Arms act 1878 started the destruction of india's gun culture. 2) It further got destroyed as even the newly independent indian government continued with more or less the same colonial law in the version of Arms act 1959. These acts essentially destroyed any gun culture which could've sustained a competitive gun makers ecosystem. Look up any well known gun making country or company, most of them have a historical civilian gun culture. Also legendary guns were made by some talented and passionate individual gun designers like John browning, mikhail Kalashnikov, Eugene stoner, Paul mauser, ferdinand mannlicher, Daiudonne saive, samuel colt etc. India had neither 3) Further the new government monopolized Firearms manufacturing with an inherently inefficient, lazy and incompetent organization called OFB. So any small cottage gun industry was there they killed it( gunsmiths of munger were famous and even the British used them to come up with revolutionary ideas like dum dum bullets which are essentially hollow points) and we ended up at the mercy of the shitty ordinance factories. You will be surprised to know that a country like india doesn't have any gunsmithing courses or institutions teaching this trade. With all of this f**ked up situation how can you expect a decent firearm?.
We can make Satellite for Mars and still we have such bad INSAS rifle . Why can we design our own Next Generation Rifle. INSAS is complete a piece of Scraf . There is no comparison of it with AK which is far older design .
Please don't it was junk when it came, it was junk while it was there, it's still junk. 30 round mag is not an upgrade you could always do that with an insas LMG mag. Picatinny rail is not an upgrade. The mag was not such a problem it was the jams and not to forget that oil that this rifle spurts right into your eyes with the first shot. Then we brought sig saure the rifle which failed. This rifle was a failure even when it was launched in the north american market but we still brought it and now "Insas reborn". The era of three round bursts is gone, left in the 80's don't cradle it. Get a good look at the rifle look at that muzzle climb. LET IT GO, BUY SOMETHING GOOD.
Technology is developed through multiple trials. Don't forget , computers were as big as a room, if we wud let go of it by listening to people like you, we wudnt be here today.
i think the magazines, feed ramp, and extractor are the normal culprits. the oil spray is generally from people trying to lube the bad feed ramp to get rounds to feed, and then when cases are ejected there is oil spray. the magazines being good is pretty crucial and magazine size is pretty important, because this governs the pressure by which the top round will hit the feed lip of the magazine. of course, the case, magazine material, spring metallurgy, etc all have to work together. also the bolt has to be able to pick up a new round easily. also if the feed ramps are not good there will be failure to feed issues, sometimes double feeds which are super annoying to fix.

As usual amazing(ly poor) job by Indian media production shop - unable to find a single proper image of the new rifle and illustrating the changes and improvements diagrammatically.
How did india manage the chandrayan moon landing when it cannot even make a decent gun?
Reasons:
1) Arms act 1878 started the destruction of india's gun culture.
India had neither
3) Further the new government monopolized Firearms manufacturing with an inherently inefficient, lazy and incompetent organization called OFB.
@@skengene our arm chair military expert is here again acting all intelligent 😂. Insas is a failed system and the makers of Insas never even tried to make it into a better version. Stop defending them. Even some of the private sectors are designing better rifles than this govt psu .
It's matured now
@@skengene lol 😂 what a misplaced analogy. Unlike computers, we already have multiple small arms platforms which are highly reliable and effective. But no but with your logic we should buy room computers while laptops are not only available but affordable and everyone else has it.
Insas is worst copy of GAlil that has also been a flop gun ever wonder India couldn't be able to make its own rifle yet
Prime example of how pathetically Indian Govt Babus treat Indian Army. The Army cannot even get a decent rifle for use by soldiers. Here is a guy who has potentially never used a weapon in war, trying to label Insas as formidable. What a joke.
Perfect assessment
You would do well to remember the late exCDS's comments on army QRs. Remember the gun that they wanted that could fire 2 different calibers. Army procurement is for foreign trips, not for good guns.
Look matters! It still looks ugly in renovated avtar too...
See the recoil man😮. Not a gun expert, but i still want to say that, the recoil is more than american counterparts
Most handlers r not from army, they r just employees,so they can't handle like para SF or RR
Making faulty rifle is wastage of taxpayers money. But Indian people are not aware of these things. Government agency and leadership can do anything they want to do 😅
Recoil problem
I never thought I'd see this day when the INSAS gets an upgrade.
Commendable initiative. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
We can not make even a Gun.
No country will buy insas rifle speaking of export 😂😂😂😂
Its just a cosmatic kit. Internally they did nothing. Same rifle and long barrels. Haven't reduce barrel length still 18 inch. They should make it 14 inch barrel with new compensater. And im sure they will charge 50k plus to just upgrade butt dust cover handguard and new magazine.
Naaah not enough. Indian Army will still dump it like a toxic ex girlfriend.
True rifle LMAO
India might be hope for you yet , you have learned to make your own rifles and Small arms . One more thing do not buy any European firearms they will work for a certain amount of time and they'll go down on you .
U.S. Secret Service SAC Teddy Houston 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Too much talking.... INSAS is a useless riffle.... It jammed during critical times... It was playing with lives of brave soldiers....
Junk rifle.Malfunction and jamming all the time.Insas catastrophe rifle
One of the worst rifles in Military History.
