  • Annnd, here we go.
    I feel the need to say that my goal with this was not to stir up more shit, despite what people think. Sean has been effectively been on an online rampage for the last eight to ten months and I was hoping that getting it all out there, saying his piece (peace?), could be the beginning of the end. Yes, people would be angry at something said, but it would hopefully open the door to resolution. Or closure, at least.
    I am of the opinion that Sean says nothing really new here. Here's aired all this stuff out online before in one way or another. But seeing him say it with emotion on his face and hearing him take accountability in between strong statements reminds us that he's a flawed human (as we all are). Overall, it shows a side of him that is different than the online internet shit talker. He talks about his struggles and even apologizes at the end. This is not me taking his side in anything, but showing fault is an important step... Is this Sean's version of what happened? Yes. Do other people have a different version? Of course. We all see/remember things through our own lens and, as cliche as it sounds, there are two sides to every story. Being on the other end as an interviewer, it's my goal to let him tell to that story. I tried to offer counter points when possible (IE, "is it possible that Robbie was coming from a good place?") but I do not know, or only have a vague idea, of the other side and it's also not my place to argue on behalf of someone else. I hope people understand all of the above.
    The podcast is great, as they generally tend to be with someone who is being open and real. Please give it a listen and show respect for all parties involved.

    His ego is massive and huge bummer because he is so ignorant to the other side of the argument. Everyone knows he is a legend on a bike, NOBODY is saying he isn’t. Yet he’s constantly comparing himself to everyone in the community to prove he is above their level of riding. Let your riding and legacy prove that for you. It’s makes it so much worse when you have to tell everyone anround you just how awesome you are. Plus, BMX is not specific to one style, THATS WHAT MAKES THIS SPORT FUCKING GREAT. But he maintains that anyone who doesn’t ride is his style is somehow lesser and not ‘real’. Sean is unable to understand the other persons perspective while maintaining that his perspective is the only correct one. It just sounds like he’s trying to convince himself that his failure was not his fault but the fault of others. It really infuriated me when he was blaming his rockstar deal falling through bc fudger and Dennis mentioned that the dude doesn’t ride a bike anymore. Like wtf do you expect? I wouldn’t be too stoked as a company owner to see someone I’m paying to ride their bike not actually ride their bike. Find it funny too how Sean’s saying he could’ve put out old content to give the impression he is still riding, in turn making him fake asf. Victim mentality, arrogant, ignorant, and annoying. Rewatch the dak podcast after this to see the difference. Someone who can honestly talk about their faults is 10x more ‘real’ than Sean will ever be.
    Maybe if he actually took the time to hear the other side instead of interrupting he could understand a little more

The 9-5ers that still ride have understood this, just because sean tasted that energy drink flavored success doesn’t mean the rest of us didnt put everything we had into this game before life made us dial it back a little. I say in confidence i didnt appreciate riding until i could only ride on weekends, thats when my addiction to progress was dialed back and i was able to dig into the bag of tricks I crafted over the years, I only had the time to focus on who i was and not who i was trying to be. I grew up in Alberta, it's an oilfield heavy province here in Canada. The patch pays well, but it'll fuckin churn you up and spit you out without remorse. There isn't a single person i went to school with who dropped out at 16 or 17 to work in the patch, that didn't grow up until their 30s. Hell, most of them haven't grown up. A good number of them have passed away from drug overdoses.
      My point is, when you give a kid that kind of money, without him fully understanding the responsibilities of life on that level, he's gonna have a hard time with it as an adult.
      What Ricanny is doing here may seem insignificant, or even lacking in respect, but after i've seen what i've seen on the patch, i see this as a step in the right direction for him. Recently saw Sean and Stevie after a long time in IG. Decided to watch the interview to understand why he disappeared.
    After watching the video, I feel both dislike and regret for Sean. One of the best in his craft, who's come a long way and been through his ups and downs, is just throwing shit at the industry that gave him the chance to live his best life. For many who have dedicated their lives to BMX, it is a dream. Live with only one job, and this is your favorite thing in this world. Nobody owes anything to someone who doesn't do their job. If you stop detailing boats today, you won't get paid... that's the thing. It is difficult for anyone who received easy money from an early age to understand its real value. And if it weren’t for Sean’s stupid grievances and incomprehensible principles, he could have become a phoenix after he get his shit together. But now he's using Stevie as an opportunity to make money and saying "FUCK THE BMX INDUSTY". He says that he helps him, and that's partly true. But if Stevie stops helping him promote his stuff tomorrow, guess what Sean will do?)) I don't think he'll sign a check for Steve, the same Robbie did for him. The main lesson in a man's life is to understand what it means to be a man. There's no need to blaim to everyone around you when you make mistakes and act like an asshole. Trade your career, opportunities and respect for what? Throwing shit at a fan? One of the dumbest interviews I've ever seen. I give Sean credit for his riding, but after this video my opinion is - the biggest jerk in the industry. So what will he do about that? Fuck the Sean Ricany.
    Special thanks to Fudger, who didn’t tell him to get the fuck up and end interview after the rockstar theme.
    Thats the difference between grown man and a fucking boy. You just step over shit and doing your job.
    Huge shotout to Russian BMX scene.

  • @WilliamKass
    @WilliamKass 6 месяцев назад +5

    It's interesting to hear his side of the story, but honestly, at the same time it's hard to listen to and stay open-minded. It kind of feels like in his eyes BMX is about this rockstar behavior that only a handful can ever enjoy.
    I strongly disagree with his take on what Our BMX should or shouldn't post, it's not only about numbers growing as Fudger said here, but it's about what we as a community need - the numbers are growing thanks to those posts because that's exactly what BMX should be - uplifting eachother and having a good, clean fun time. It’s Freestyle not a fight about who is number one street, park or dirt. We don't go to the parks to cheer for the best rider in there and be jealous. We're all there to make our days brighter and enjoy being together with mates. That also means helping the new riders fit in, give tips where needed, support eachother, learn the goofy tricks, appreciate when somebody does something you don't see often, etc. It’s not racing where only the fastest guys shine. We can always follow the top riders for their posts, but it's interesting to also see what else is going on out there.
    When we organize contests, we want the scene to come together and have fun, make new friends, get new kids hooked on bikes. As somebody who has organized contests and ran an indoor skatepark and had to deal with or heard many stories of these "rockstars" trashing hotel rooms, demanding things for free, refusing your (helmet) rules and then badmouthing you in return because they consider themselves higher than everybody else because of their talent on a bike/board/scooter, I don't want new kids to think that is the way in our sport, or life in general.
    The whole Tyler and helmet-talk thing too, as I also told Tyler in dm's, it's not so much about his brutal crash and whether in that one a normal lid would have saved his teeth or not, it just sucks to see somebody get hurt. But it's mainly about the influence - there are so many kids smashing their heads without a helmet because their favorite pros are riding in just a beanie. When you've seen young kids lose their teeth permanently, somebody crash into a coma and get long-term nerve damage from it, you just get angry when a guy with such a big fanbase doesn't understand the impact he has on others. We’ve seen so many big pros lose everything because of bad head injuries, but there are also those regular people whose stories don’t get seen. And still all we care about is a helmet not looking rad enough to put it on?
    Still got to say it was a good podcast, thank you for this and the regular awesome work that you do! 👊

    For someone who wants to maintain the essence of BMX I don’t understand why he said there were 2 park riders at the X-games Street podium. Back in the day BMX riders were competing in vert and flatland with the same bikes! Mirra, Miron… they rode EVERYTHING. And if Peraza is good at park, dirt and street, then he deserves all the wins. • @Perrysbmxhowtos
      @Perrysbmxhowtos 6 месяцев назад +1

      Nah i agree with him, peraza and boyd are absolute shredders, but they rode a "street" course like park riders and got scored for park tricks and not street tricks, whats the point in different classes if you get scored more for doing a flair than you would for a 180 bar crook, just have a "BMX" event like simple session instead where everyone rides the same course if thats the case, hes not saying they are bad riders but blaming X-games for putting them in the class rather than a lets say dakota or a nathan williams etc..

    • @NasBMX
      @NasBMX 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@Perrysbmxhowtos I understand your point. But what are "park tricks"? Are tailwhips allowed? Barspins? Or only peg tricks and manuals? There are great street riders who ride pegless, and seeing a flair in street used to be a sick move..
      They use the course the way they want, Peraza also does pedal grinds in the park's funbox and confuses everyone, I find that original. Garret knows how to flair, he would do it all the time if that gave him points. If the problem is with the judges, that's a different thing. But it makes sense to have categories since the courses are different. This is "still" freestyle, and they are allowed to do all the tricks. Otherwise street would only be for a certain type of bike (4 pegs, brakeless?), esthetic and a specific bag of tricks... That would be lame...

    I'm a Jersey raised Military vet that's been in multiple bmx scenes over the years traveling and I've been pretty vocal.. Bmx as we knew it back when it was a community vibe is dead and it's really sad.. everybody in this time period of bmx is too focused on being a fake social media profile of a person for likes instead of being real humans to each other.. nobody even knows what being themselves or having a unique personality looks like anymore because everybody is too focused on being accepted or being considered cool by overgrown children..
    Everybody forgot where they came from and who they were before they caught an ego just because they could barspin or tailwhip now.. its all cliquey high school popularity contest bullshit now, Mean Girls Movie gossipy shit talking, and exclusion/outcasting anybody who isn't like them or as good on a bike as them.. and not enough people running their mouths are getting their teeth blown out for it because everyone's too worried about judgment from others or getting in trouble now.. that shit dont fly in jersey or the military. We correct that shit real quick.. 90% of bmx riders have never been in a fight before and think they're a man because they can trick down some stairs.. everybody wanted to get away from the high school cliquey gossip queen wannabe bully sh*t which is why we all chose bmx in the first place.. thats why there is no community in the scene anymore.. this whole generation became everything they hated.
    This new era of bmx became the jocks/bullies/mean girls they hated in high-school and just focuses in on what they can find to take other people down to secure their rank on the cool kid totem pole, trying to find your flaws in your riding instead of just being stoked that you progressed and did something you're proud of..
    There's no morals or values when it comes to spot preservation or spot maintenance anymore.. people trash spots, break beer bottles, graffiti, and sometimes even destroy spots on purpose after landing something just so other people cant ride it anymore.. this is because the industry itself is mostly run by alcoholics and drug addicts who don't know how to make businesses successful and bring on riders that promote bad mentalities and unhealthy lifestyles..
    Bmx could've been a healthy team sport, but no one knows how to or cares to actually be a healthy teammate or even what it's like to be a team because companies dont bring on good healthy people to put together a team. All of this is why nobody wants to throw jams for the fun of it to bring people together for a good time anymore.. because people don't want to help and are ungrateful even if they're getting free stuff from bike companies.. 90% of people in bmx don't deserve the time, effort, and energy it takes to put events together anymore.. nobody is just stoked to just see other riders doing something cool or progressing their own riding achievements anymore..
    Theres no healthy leadership or guidance for healthy sportsmanship or comradery in the community like team sports have, which is why they don't get outside funding and end up not being able to afford to pay their riders who literally hospitalize and almost kill themselves for tricks just to keep their sponsors happy even though those sponsors don't cover the medical bills or even support them through their recovery when they struggle with mental health..
    and everybody wonders why bmx isn't progressing as a sport other than the difficulty level of the tricks being done for the next clip clout circle jerk.. so many people I know used to be so stoked on bmx until we met most of our pro rider "heros" and realized everything we thought they were because of their highlight reels on social media was all a load of gold painted bullsh*t.. just had to get close enough to smell it.

      I thought the same thing. He sounds similar to how Bam did on the Nine Club podcast and I love the not GAF attitude while also accepting what has been done and taking accountability openly. Some peeps only know the ‘protect your ego’ game, but talk like this is what breaks down those barriers. Bam and Sean are rare gems to this world fasho✌🏻

    So sad man. Makes me gratefuk that my pops was always down eith bmx and snowboarding, etc. For someone to achieve so much success and still not hear from their "father' is the worst. I dont have plans of having kids. Me and my girl agree on that. But if something happened i would step up even if i didnt want to. Because I'm not a POS.
    I hope Sean takes solace in the fact that he has inspired so many people.

    Refreshing to hear someone be so honest.
    When you are pro it's a job and in everyones work life there will be things that work out and things that don't, people you get on with and people you don't.
    Bmx should be real, salty and rad .
    There is nothing bad about what was said, people in the comments far to sensitive and emotive about someone else's life and opinions (kind of ironic they are opinionated themselves).
    Sean is doing good and now he is showing us the mythical yeti that is Stevie Churchill in the wild!
    Glad Gabe got a mention, Gabe Brooks RIP.

    Always been a fan of Sean's riding and good to get a understanding of some of the background as much as its none of our business really. Its been hard not to see all the shit talk online with everyone joining in and they dont have clue.
    I remember reading about the stranger thing in the bmx news at the time Miles was team Manager and the rumour was he didnt like Adam LZ and Rich or something wanted him on the team and everyone then left and said it was because of Miles leaving that they wanted to go as well. Sean was one of the last to leave. In the end i think just Adam LZ was the only one on the team lol.

    I am trying to figure out what he is saying. He was going to rip off his sponsors by doing nothing and you guys outed him? That is what I am hearing. Its a fascinating story. This guy. I enjoyed the podcast even though I didn’t know how he was until after. I am not done listening yet so probably will add to my comment.
    he thinks he is going to have a big show and break the record of most viewers. Good luck dude. Give hime the real RUclips data. What it gets views. I’ve never checked numbers because I am a fan of your channel but I’m guessing the best of the month or the big names are going to surprise him that he is not the top.
    He blames you for a lot of his problems I want to like this guy. You post on Instagram a circus trick and he wants it to be posts of him who doesn’t care about pushing the sport into their lane. I think you are doing fine not skipping the NBDs. But I guess you could always make him happy and give him some love. If its not up to posting you are definitely going to some hate.
    I did not know our BMX and Transworld had anything to do with each other or anything until last week when I listened to a previous podcast where you were the guest, Ryan and there wasn’t even video.
    at 1hr14 it should have been the end. He just wants to keep going
