Babylon 5 and Farscape are my two beloved series ever, not just sci-fi. I'm a little afraid that the new version of Babylon 5 will be made for American kids and thus lack its depth, but I'm trying to trust Straczynski. 30 years ago when he wanted to make this series technology didn't allow him to fully spread his wings, so the new version will surely have better, more spectacular CGI. He will probably want to realize ideas he couldn't realize then. But it won't be easy to replace the original cast. The new actors will have to measure themselves against the legend and, what's more, excellence.
On the other hand, I would not be afraid that this series will be available only to American viewers. I think the voices of foreign fans on FB, Insta, TW will be loud enough for someone to release this drama internationally.

there are many shows that end up on australian available networks and streaming services that when their native sources are not available here, usually at a heavy delay but they do make it here eventually, suspect similar things occur for yourself in NZ

It could be a great way to introduce B-5 to a new generation.

Pilots were tried before (The Lost Tales) and the longer this is delayed the less likely a full series will appear. JMS himself must be near 60 now. A crying shame the huge budget of Star Trek bad reboots is not spent on B5 but it was like that in the beginning.

    • @DeadMikeConcertVideos

I agree with Mike 60 is still highly functional depending on the person. Look at Ridley Scott in his 80's still going strong. Even if we couldn't get Babylon 5 I think Stargate is far better than these new Star Treks. Strange New Worlds was "ok" but forgettable. Orville has been blowing it out of the water. I really hope that gets more seasons. Every episode has practically been like a movie.

No reboot. Nothing will replace B5 for me. JMS isnt the same JMS of the 1990s. Just look at his twitter feed to see it. Even with the OG creator at the helm? It won't be Babylon 5. The B5 universe is big. They could have done a series set in the future. Or followed other characters.

  • @WaterspoutsOfTheDeep

CW is known for kinda lower budget young adult type content. But have an amazing track record of sticking with tv shows and not canceling them. Even bad ones lol hence the mixed feelings people have about it. They had a show called Supernatural which went for like 18 seasons and had pretty decent budget and production.

I would write replies to everyone who's already posted, but I don't feel like scattering my thoughts to the four winds.
There's almost nobody I trust on EITHER side of the Atlantic to reboot a show. You hear *_that_* BBC? This isn't a "Hollywood" problem: it's an entertainment industry problem. Damn few have been even remotely successful, and top of the list of people I trust to even try rebooting is JMS. Now, to be fair, maybe B5 is a lightning-in-a-bottle scenario. But, he's publicly stated he has grown significantly as a writer and storyteller, and with as he put it all the new tools he now has in his toolbox, he wants to see what he could do with it. And, honestly, so would I.
I'll also thank *_EVERYONE_* here in this comment section to remember how PAINFULLY unpopular Babylon 5 was with the sci-fi community when it premiered back in 1994. Back then, it was a Star Trek world, and B5 wasn't Star Trek. However, the team had heart and stuck with it, and now the little show that never would make it has become one of the biggest influences on TV storytelling, to say nothing of sci-fi show storytelling.

    • @YESTERDAYMANSCIFI
      @YESTERDAYMANSCIFI  2 года назад +2

I always worry these days when some one says "I've grown as a writer" but yes you bring up some very good points I remember being one of a very few who stuck with b5 from the beginning, it was so original that even as a star wars and star trek fan I was blown away with the reality of it, the fact that technology might advance but humanity wont there will still be wars and no guaranty of a happy ending at the end of every episode. but you also have to remember that even if JMS holds true to his word, at the end of the day it's up to whom ever bank rolls the project that has the final say, which was very much the case for season 1 and 2 of the original. my other worry is that to much time has past the generation of today are not in to this, they're after instant gratification, they will not sit through a five year story. so it.s not so much about what we want, it's about what they can sell.

    • @paulbabcock2428

I grew to like B-5 a lot. But, as I recall, it started off pretty badly like a lot of shows. Idt there was a single episode I liked until the very end of season two where it was revealed that angels are Vorlons when Kosh saved Sheridan.
So, of course, no one liked it when it initially came out in 94. Idk if I would have followed a show that sucked as bad as Next Gen did durring its first two seasons if it wasn't already a Star Trek show (Also, I was oversees living w/o a tv thruout seasons one and two of Next Gen. So I never saw it untill it had already grown it's beard in season 3).

B5 doesn't need a a reboot, just an upgrades if you will to some of the "bit dodgy" VFX effects (which BTW were awesome at the time back in 199-4-5), a "reboot" suggests to me at least ,the stories will change as will the characters to suit a "woke" generation which quite frankly is utter madness as the "diversity" in B5 is one of it's most original concepts "a station for all" remember? So just a quick VFX polish is really all that's required. Reboots fail , as seen for about the last 10 yrs now because the studio involved wants to push its message rather than that of the story teller. I really hope J.M.S stands his ground on this.

I don't want to reboot. A reboot of Babylon 5 will only emphasize how far the entertainment industry is falling.
Plus if this is anything like the other reboots it's going to be so politically correct you're going to want to puke.

I've the same stance. No reboot until the entertainment industry pull away from the mire it is in now. JMS is ageing so he might not be able to oversee a reboot but hopefully there would be someone who loves B5 and understands the lore thoroughly and keeps true to it, could undertake the task in the future. I'll cite David Filoni as an example.

@@OG21020 We need only to look at star wars or star trek today to see what happens when some one other than the creator or some one with knowledge of the lore takes over a franchise. I would rather that it stopped when the creator stops or passes away, then to see an abomination rise from the ashes of a glorious past. The entertainment industry is in a sick place at the moment like so many aspects of or society and it is my view that the reboot will never see the light of day, giving the fact that the pilot will screen on CW an American only channel and from what I've been told from different people to be a woke channel, shows me that a remastered Babylon 5 is the better option.
