    Not really here to go full on gearheadnazi, but the thing was Wittig-type supercharged, not turbocharged, with a Roots-type supercharged version coming later for racing on Monza.
    Dug through some Italian documents (I am Italian myself) to investigate into this and yeah, gotta confirm there's very little about this car around the net aside from historical FIAT archives and similar things... Very interesting car and well done mod - I only ever knew about the Bugatti Tank thing before, lol. The Voisin is very, very intriguing...

    I don't think you need to worry about the circuit not being period 1923. If we can play games and use a sim to imagine that we are driving cars from almost 100 years ago, then we can also imagine that sometime in the 1950's a car club assembled these cars together and held a classics car race at these circuits.

      So completely different racing, but I used to help a friend with his drag cars when they’d run at the local track on Fridays. I was an oval track driver (late models) so I was happy to help since he’d usually return the favor and help me on Saturday night when I ran. I’d make adjustments to the car, load the icebox in the trunk for the inter cooler, typical pit crew stuff. The friend who owned the cars asked if I’d like to make a pass after the actual competition in a grudge race (which is just racing on the track for fun). I said sure. I remember I botched the launch and got off late at the light, and the car in the right lane jumped way out. He started pedaling though because something went wrong with the car, I pulled ahead just as he was hitting the wall. The elation of winning took over, and it wasn’t until I got back to the pits, saw everyone running over there that it registered what just happened. The car had gotten loose, turned sideways and went nose first into the wall. He died on impact. I’ve never made another pass down a drag strip, and didn’t want to race my own car but made myself do it.
      TL;DR: It doesn’t register at first because you’re so fixated on driving.

    massive fun... we need a 20's track....

    • @Villoresi
      @Villoresi 3 года назад +2

      Well, technically, the Nurburgring is a '20s track; the Nurburgring '67 mod so far is probably the closest to how it really was.
      The next best I think we can hope for is an attempt at a faithful, old Monza, with the lower banking and realigned run fro Vialone to Parabolica.
      The full, 12.5-km Montlhery, with no chicanes, would be nice, too.
      I suppose the other "easy" one would be the full, 12-mile AVUS, pre-banking.
      Beyond those, it gets a lot tougher. In some cases, even figuring out quite where the roads went could be a problem. And as Fat-Alfie (David Pemberton) points out, you really have to fill in a lot of gaps with your imagination.

    • @sergioloro
      @sergioloro 3 года назад +1

      Well, I'm sure a lot of it was lost due to the War.

    • @chrisflyvr
      @chrisflyvr 3 года назад +1

      I think one has really to go into the museum's for that and into the archives. Starting with the local archives in the city where the tracks were located and look for documents etc. Some racetracks have museums too like Nürburgring. Then there are universities in Germany teaching "corporation history" so you can gain access to Auto union documents or Thyssen Krupp stuff. One just need time and money to do it professionally

  • @Villoresi
    @Villoresi 3 года назад +1

    Yeah, it might have been a bit unfair to try to do this at Reims or Monza, or even Montlhery, given the Fiat's straight-line potential. Clermont-Ferrand would have been another excellent circuit for this, though the existing mods for it aren't up to the same standard as this and others.
    Nicecuppatea has started in on the Delage 2LCV, as that one is much easier to find info on compared to the Rolland-Pilain A22.
    I suppose, to really finish off the season, it would be nice to have the Miller 122 Special, Benz RH, and Alfa Romeo P1. The Benz is definitely an odd looker. And I know the P1 didn't race, but was in practice for the Italian GP, until Ugo Sivocci crashed.
    I think a hillclimb would put the Fiat and Bugatti at a clear disadvantage. I'm thinking that something like the Deutschlandring could offer a fairly balanced lap overall. Aside from that, there's the track you tried the other 3 out on, Fonteny, though that one may be skewed a bit toward cars that are better in the twisties as well.
    Would the Sudschleife maybe be a good option for comparing the 4 cars?
    BTW, have you watched the video highlights of the 1962 French GP from Rouen? That's a fun one, and historically significant, with Gurney giving Porsche its only F1 victory as a full-on works effort. Having seen the 804 in the Porsche Museum, I'm amazed they got Dan to fit in that thing given how tall he was.

  • @clockdva20
    @clockdva20 3 года назад

    I quote here from an internet source . This car seems not to be a he first Fiat to be fitted with a Supercharger.
    But maybe have been the first GP win using a Supercharger. Seems to be a little grey area .
    "whilst the 805 usually gets the twin accolades of first win by a supercharged car and first Grand Prix win so equipped, in more recent times those records are accorded the Fiat 803.
    This car, powered by a normally aspirated 1.5 litre engine won the 375 mile Italian Small Car race at Monza in late 1922. In 1923, by then powered by a Tipo 403 1.5 litre, DOHC, Wittig-blown four cylinder engine an 803 won the 29 June 1923 Voiturette Grand Prix at Brescia, Alessandro Cagno was the driver.
    As a consequence we now say the 803 was the first car to win an event supercharged, and the first to win a Grand Prix so powered, both achievements took place at Brescia on 29 June with Cagno the driver."
    Source primotipo.com/tag/fiat-805/.
    Very interesting site here .

      Yeah that would be the Mefistofele (Mephistopheles).. but also the mighty S76, that supposedly had an engine that was derived from a blimp/airship engine of all things, lol.

    Can somebody please tell me the name of the German freeroam map?
    I’m from Germany and I really want to drive there to feel at home and comfortable when I don’t wanna race!

      It was called 'ASPERTSHAM', however I believe it was removed per legal action from the german government.

      @@GPLaps thank you man!
      that really sucks, why is our government doing this stuff all the time :(
      Now I have to find a generous person in a Reddit thread or some discord to send it to me via Dropbox or something.
      Another „interesting“ task haha.
      Btw thanks for what you’re doing, you have the best vintage sim racing channel!
      You brought me into vintage SIM racing and your videos are really soothing me and the way you present them is amazing!
      I have some real older sportscars but I was frustrated there where no Trackdays in the winter and my cars have only a summer registration, so I couldn’t scratch my driving itch.
      You showed me a whole new world that’s calming me down and bringing me joy after a stressful day!
      Just have to up my rig game sometimes this year.
