'We're a different kind of society, we see things differently, in Hollywood' actor says in defence of Roman Polanski Hollywood has rallied behind Roman Polanski after his arrest in Switzerland over the weekend for the rape of a 14 year old, with the actor Whoopi Goldberg suggesting that whatever he was guilty of it wasn't "rape-rape".
As a speaker on The View chatshow on US television, she said: "I know it wasn't rape-rape. It was something else but I don't believe it was rape-rape. He went to jail and when they let him out he was like, 'You know what, this guy's going to give me a hundred years in jail. I'm not staying.' So that's why he left."
Later in the programme, she added: "We're a different kind of society in Hollywood, we see things differently ... would I want my 14-year-old having sex with somebody? Not necessarily, no."
This was the response from many female and some male bloggers was swift and furious.
On the Jezebel celebrity website , Lindsay wrote: "We learned about Whoopi's strange and fascinating moral universe, which includes the concept of "rape-rape." This is not the first time she has gone into bat for a Pedophile and she is still allowed to work.
On The Frisky Amelia McDonnell-Parry wrote: "Whoopi Goldberg, who I never expected to be a rape apologist, coins a term I've never heard before - 'rape-rape'

She doesn't need to work but it's nice that she does. She seems to like working. She is lucky. Her former co-stars have not been so lucky. Let's be honest.....If a Caucasian woman was given 50 million dollars for her foundation and she said, the money was only going to be used to help Caucasian women. People would call it racist. Money shouldn't be used, just to help certain genders or races of people. If you wanna help..... Everyone should be entitled to the help.
That’s like saying people shouldn’t donate to cancer causes ….there should just be one fund for ALL ailments and they all get the same amount of money regardless of need.
There’s nothing racist about it. There are foundations like hers that focus on helping specific demographics that are overlooked. The Bezos awarded her for the work her foundation does.
It would be racist in a mainly white society whose white people are not marginalised and overlooked. These schemes are to combat racism and give people who suffer from it a chance. The whole of society caters mainly to white people.
Why is it that when other groups look out for each other it's called racist and anti-white, when white people have looked out for each other since the beginning?
Your society needs to become more equal. White people in it need to get a grip and realise how unequal the society is.
Eventually there might be parity among races. When that happens yoy should then focus on another of the real problems- class and money differences. Poor white people face the same issues as poor other groups, except racism. Their lives are hard. When you figure out that the unifying factor between marginalised groups is poverty, and work together to fight against that, demanding political representation and redistribution of wealth, without thinking AAARGH COMMUNISM...when you work out that socialism aids and helps poorer people...when you truly stop seeing colour enemies and realise your enemy are the extremely wealthy...then ylur lives will improve.
But as long as you keep seeing yourself as white because you think it protects you when it doesn't and seeing others on racial grounds too, you will never ever improve your life or your country.
