- The AFL is back tomorrow morning. You might not have a clue what the hell that is but, it’s a sport that is MUST WATCH. For the first time in its over 100 year league history, there is an American who’s pretty damn good at the sport. His name is Mason Cox.. also known as Coxzilla. Coxzilla breaks down what the season’s gonna be like and what it was like getting back into the game after the worldwide sports stoppage. If you enjoyed this... Be a friend, tell a friend. If you hated it.. just act like it never happened. Cheers.

America and Australia are going through a bloody battle in his head for who gets rights to his accent. Its great
If you told me there were two separate humans talking, one Australian and one American, I would believe you. So confusing 😂
we dont want him so the americans can get it
Iconiccoyote167 you , sound like a hater, I’m not American either
Pfft get a grip
@@terryhamilton1196 your also forgetting Coxys been with a bunch of aussie men, who mostly live an breathe aussie slang. Plays a sport that is largely a blue collar culture, aussie abbreviations, slang used everywhere. He's not an American working for a oil company mixing with businessmen. He's living the most australian life style that any foreign person can.
Pat said metres. WE GOT HIM LADS
Made my morning
Soccer is the biggest and most important sport on Earth with over 4 billions fans and is massive in over 240 countries. Afl only has 7 million fans and massive in only 4 Australian states. Soccer will be the number 1 sport in Australia by 2050 dhdbs
@@mufc383 you lot have been talking about soccer becoming popular in Australia for decades, and the only inkling that it might become recognised as even being in the same room was the Matildas in their recent world cup run. That's about it. AFL is also played in every state, even in the rugby states... you lot deserve an oscar for your ability to act.
I don't support Collingwood, but Mason Cox is a great ambassador for the sport and Pat McAfee's support is promotion money can't buy. The AFL should be very happy.

The fact that Pat is genuinely interested in our sport is great. You bloody legend 👍🏽
Most people from here in the US would be interested if they knew how cool it is.

HIS ACCENT FLIPS EVERY COUOLE WORDS AND IT’S TRIPPING ME OUT
After Pat called him on his accent getting thicker you can hear him trying to hold it back.
Big Pat - The 2018 Grand Final (Superbowl equivalent) was Collingwood v West Coast. I strongly recommend that you and the boys watch this match from start to finish - it has everything you could wish for in an elite sporting contest. Keep up the great work mate!
This. Arguably the greatest game of all time and has everything you'd want. Also it's Magpies vs Eagles so the lads can sort out where their allegiances lie (ps: the Eagle in West Coast Eagles are the apex predator of the avian world, has a wingspan of up to 10ft, has been known to attack parachutists and handgliders in midair and has been seen taking off carrying sheep or kangaroos).
Hell yes, it was the greatest game ever!!!
Great GF...but not close to the 89 GF
idk 2016 prelim between gws and western bulldogs is probably the best game imo
1989 Grand Final is probably the greatest of all time but 2018 was pretty good. 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2012 Grand Finals are also great ones.
50,000 Collingwood supporters in a crowd, only 3,000 teeth.
It's only funny 'cause it's true
J W omg yes the best joke ever (after Cox and Collingwood)
so true
That’s being generous
Ah people like you make being a Collingwood supporter fun.
its important to remember that while all Aussie kids grow up playing Aussie Rules Football, Mason Cox didn't even discover the sport until he was an adult. That's a massive disadvantage. But it DIDN'T stop him, and he has become an excellent tall forward.
He had 1 good game, he's a below average tall forward bud
@@tommcb9438 Wrong.
He still doesn’t have the natural ability to pack mark and that’s why most teams defenders force him under the ball because he goes to mark one hand. He didn’t have a kicking action which means they could teach him one from scratch so he’s generally a pretty good set shot.
@@tommcb9438 Agree he is below average tall forward in the AFL, but he is a tall forward that gets regular AFL games, that puts him in the elite category for the sport itself, think of how many thousands have tried playing since they were kids and never even gotten close to an AFL game. And anyone who think he has only had one good game doesnt watch collingwood closely enough. He has had one exceptional game, but lots of games where he is just doing his role. To me, it's more important that he is a target that demands attention of a good defender, and be able to bring the ball to ground for the likes of Elliott, DeGoey, Stephenson & co than it is to kick goals. He didn't to that in the first few years, but he now regularly has those games where he is having an influence & will kick maybe 1 goal. Thats all he needs to do to fit in perfectly at the pies.
A good pair of hands and ability to read the ball in flight is all you need when you're 6'10. He's made leaps and bounds in progression but at a regular persons height he wouldn't play above division 2
Mason just said collingwoods guernseys are like prison bars... dude knew he was gonna push port fans buttons lmao
Exactly right, Gregzilla. The real prison bars are on display on Saturday night when Port Adelaide flog he Crows and show the WORLD what 150 years of heritage means. In the meantime, Collingwood can expect a flogging from The Power later this year when the REAL magpies show 'em how it's done
Paul Thesurfer Expect a flogging? 108-69 was the last match and you got pummeled.
Paul Thesurfer I know that Collingwood are the proper Magpies because they are the oldest but I like Port Adelaide because I’m a Richmond supporter so... anything against Collywobbles
@@EBGamez1 Collingwood founded 1892 port founded 1870. So they don't even have that over us!
@@EBGamez1 Port Adelaide F.C. = 150 years, Collingood FC. = 1892. The sad Collingwood rabble were a generation late, mate.
Luv your enthusiasm for AFL as newbies.. Luv the chats with Cox.. zilla ... As a one eyed West Coast Eagles supporter... Welcome .. come on over ...
Awesome to see Pat getting the AFL some american exposure, hopefully this gets some people to DVR some games and check it out. I know I will!
Just watched his highlights and the announcer called him the “lanky yankee” which is almost as good as coxzilla

I've been to 2 games at Doak Campbell when my team played Florida State. This was 14 years ago and I still get chills thinking about that whole stadium doing the chop with their band blaring their fight song. That noise was stuck in my head for a week after
It’s a theme song not a fight song
I'm an Aussie and an AFL Footy fan, stumbled across this show, love it. Very impressed with Masons comments and interpretation of the game. I am certain it was not intensional but he is not alone as the tallest player to ever play the game. The record for the tallest AFL player currently rests with three different players at 211cm: Peter Street, Aaron Sandilands and Mason all ruckman. Not sure he said he was the first AFL player from the USA, but he has certainly been it, and is a great Ambassador for both of his homes. From 3-5 I lived in Australia. When my family flew home to Dallas, TX I distinctly remember my cousins laughing at my accent at the airport. According to my folks, I dumped it in less than a week. Funny how that works. Thing is, to this day, after a few drinks I can nail south Australia accent.
M P you notice south Australian say plant differently
I have never seen someone do an aus accent it always comes out as Kiwi or cockney or they imitate chips rafferty
I cringe when they do it
Its a really hard accent to do.
Pat at the Longest Kick NEEDS to happen.
Oh hey I remember this guy he was on a vice doc like 4 years ago
"American Standard Time" Hey man... West coast people are here too lmao
For a second I thought you meant West Coast in Australia because there is an AFL team called West Coast Eagles
I LOVE how Pat is taking notes. He friggen loves it, that’s so cool.
Loving his Aussie accent develop!!
Pat, you should get West Coast’s Nic Naitanui on the show

Priceless seeing Eddie shattered back to back grand final defeats of Collingwood by the Brisbane lions (2002 and 2003) Especially after I went to the 2003 grand final. And seeing hardly any pie fans in their city centre after the game ,great times
His accent sounds more Aussie
Afl commentators love to point out ' Everyone loves big Cox'
To be fair that started with big Dean Cox .
I’m a flight attendant and the west coast eagles were on my flight when they were on their way to a finals match. They were dead set legends. If you had to pick go for the eagles.
What a fantastic ambassador for the AFL in the US. Americans need to see more of this sport. They will love it.
Leave it alone. It’s ours
"we're essetially done with COVID"
you jinxed it, Cox
Mason is absolutely correct two types of AFL supporters those that hate Collingwood and those support Collingwood and no in betweens. Go Tigers
Cox is a legend in Australia. I'm not a Collingwood supporter but I love the man.
LOVE THE ACCENT GOING BACK AND FORTH
Great clip... interview, I’m gonna watch afl! Let’s go
Would love to see Connor and zito do an Oklahoma drill
Zito would take his lunch money
Coach Cambells got this
Amazing interview definitely got the DVR set ...he didn’t want to speak on that opponent that means they are def good for 3 goals lol I’m in 💪
I’m an American and I believe AFL is the best sport in the world. Go Bulldogs! 🔴⚪️🔵
On ya, mate!👍

Fun fact about T W Sherrin. He was also a Collingwood president a long time ago. Long before Eddie. There is also a grandstand named after him at Collingwood's spiritual home Victoria Park.
Burley is a better footy
Mason is an Oklahoma State Grad. Go Pokes!!
I love your new found love for Aussie Rules mate. Just need to point out that you showed the wrong picture for the Magpie (6:15). That was a British magpie. Aussie magpies are about twice the size with a very large pointed beak. They are no relation to the pommy magpie just happen to be black and white like them. Car'n the Blues.
Name one aussie that has not fought a maggie
1:54 Coxzilla : we killed it.
Covid19: hold my beer
Love that, go pies! you all will love AFL. watch tonight, Collingwood v Richmond. Im from Australia
coxzilla and steel side bottom. i am sold on this AFL team
There’s also a guy named Tyson Goldsack who has played for the pies (the team)
DON'T FALL FOR IT
If you’re sold you must have only three teeth
I love that this is a thing.
One game this weekend will have 2000 fans there in a 50 000 seat stadium, outside of that no fans yet. Like the US it depends on states to allow it.
Pat mcafee has gotta do a reaction video to some of AFL's longest kicks!!!! Specifically Malcolm blight's goal to win the grand final in dead time!!!!
Win a GF? You sure? I think it was a H/A game v Carl
True lol you learn something new ever day haha
Still a great goal that pat would love
Going through life thinking Blighty won a GF after the siren....🤣🤣🤣
This is so awesome. I want to se Pat kicking her a river.
I'm a Aboriginal fan, my son is currently training for the new squad of young players. Mason is brilliant, he makes my day.
AWESOME show, loved it mate !
I met a few people from Australia while hiking the pacific crest trail and they all raved about the afl and 7s I believe its called
7s is rugby. 7 v7 on full sized rugby pitch brutal on the lungs so much running n big hits
How things have changed just in the short time since this interview. Victoria has now seen a sharp jump in infections and Collingwood & Geelong will be heading across the country to Perth to play 3 weeks worth of matches along with the two Perth teams. Cheers
The worst of that is there are a lot of collingwood supporters here in Perth. A mate of mine is from Victoria and a collingwood supporter. Im a West Coast supporter and I swear every time Ive seen him since september 2018 hes whined about THAT (alleged) block.
6’10 or 6’11 is the question that needs to be answered.
Aaron Sandilands will be listening.
He's still growing all the time.
Cullen McCabe 6’10.5”
spread the ALF love guys nice work
Collingwood just had a tie with Richmond in a match for the first time since 1917
And it was the third lowest tie in history
Mason Cox: Laughs in Australian
You should interview Nic Naitanui from West Coast
6:21 - Not a Magpie haha.
Hahaha they literally had one job
Hey Pat just to make you aware each afl club plays their theme song before the game and the winning team plays their theme song after the game to celebrate the victory and to berate the looser. My piont though is the Collibgwood theme song is taken from the tune of "Good Bye Dolley Grey, " a marching song that the U.S.A. Army mached to durin the 1 World War.
Go Magpies 2020.
West Coast Eagles 🦅

Love that Mason is promoting AFL in the US. It deserves the attention because it's awesome!... Let's be honest though, he could be a little more humble in the fact that he's a middling fringe player at absolute best! His popularity factor is based more on novelty factor than ability. He's serviceable obviously otherwise he wouldn't have a shot... but I'd be surprised that he's in many, if any, fantasy teams.
Please watch and record a reaction of you guys watching 2018 Grand Final Westcoast Eagles Vs Collingwood Magpies. One of the greatest games ever
Surreal interview!! 👍👍
Aussie Rules Football is the greatest game in the world, and hopefully ESPN, Foxtel or another pay TV or even some of the free-to-air TV networks that America or even Canada have, can broadcast some AFL games this year or in the near future
pat we love you now but the bird at 6:22 was a euro magpie and our birds ain't look like that
Well done Pat two great interviews mate
I posted this the first time you interviewed Mason. I'm an Eagles supporter (the team that beat Mason's team in the 2018 GF). Ask Mason if he has studied the ruck work of Dean Cox. If he says no then his coaches are negligent. I was at a game at Subi when Scott Gumbleton was Rucking against Dean and Nic Nat. Someone behind the goals had a sign reading "We have Big Cox and you have a Big Gumbi." You can call Mason Cox Coxilla but he will never touch Dean Cox and never be as big.
6:20 that’s not a magpie haha.
The presenter made the mistake of showing a Eurasian Magpie, a small Eurasian Corvid species (crow like), the Australian Magpie is in a completely different family.
Please tell me that pic of the magpie was taking the piss. Carn West Coast
Peggy Yvonne O'Neal AO is an American-born Australian lawyer who, since October 2013, has served as the president of the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League. She is the first woman in AFL history to serve as a club president. The Australian Financial Review has named her in its list of "Top 100 Women of Influence". In 2019 she was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to Australian rules football, to superannuation and finance law, and to the advancement of women in leadership roles.
@Pat, look out for games played in Perth/ Western Australia, they will have audiences at their games before anyone else
I'm a Collingwood member (season ticket holder), Steele Sidebottom is also known as "Steel Bum" or "Side ass" . It's a real shame Coxy is not playing Richmond as he owns them. He kicked 5 goals against them in the preliminary final in 2018 and got us into the grand final (superbowl).
Richmond supporter here Pat and family (brother and sister Collingwood supporters ) family feuds start when the Tigers meet the Magpies.
Go Tigers back to back premiers hopefully against Collingwood. Last time was in 1980 and Tigers won and this draw was the first since 1917
You should do an updated interview, now that he’s a premiership player, adds another element 😁
There’s fans at the match this weekend! 2000 of them!
Dane Roy won the longest kick comp one year at the MCG, now punts for University of Houston.
There should be fans back in afl soon because the National Rugby League in Australia is starting to bring fans back to games
I miss partying at the Rugby House on South Hester. Y'all knew how to do it.
Pat now has the second funniest 'somebody did this' under his belt
Not sure if you’ve already watched it or not but check out the video ‘mason cox; don’t believe in never’ posted by collingwood football club. Mason may not want to brag about himself but this video demonstrates how amazing his story is and the incredible player he’s become
Aussie rules football is by far the best sport.
When you’re talking cried chants and atmosphere about a game involving the Tigers, and don’t mention the ICONIC Richmond theme song with the thunderous “YELLOW AND BLACK!”... tsk, tsk Coxy! 😉
For real though, as a Geelong (go the mighty Catters) supporter, the Tigers have the best song, hands down.
Chants is a bit different to the team theme songs though Richmond don’t really have a chant they do that is as well known as the old “cooooollllllllliiiiiiiinnnnnnngggggwwooooooooooooddd”
Richmond could easily just do Riiiiiiiiichmoooooooooond, but we’re not copy cats
Tigers most certainly have the best theme song, but theme songs are for after the games over. The psychological effect of a chant that's able to be deployed in-game is separate and unique from that. Each club's culture has strengths and weaknesses, and the collingwood chant is certainly unparalleled in the league.
We need more Mason Cox vids. And I am a West Coast Eagles fan.
Cox and nic nat... pls
UC represent. Nice shirt pat
DON'T LET LAST NIGHTS GAME DETERMINE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE GAME
Come on America. I think the AFL is a sport you would love. It's brutal, violent, it's aggressive, strategic and free flowing. Players must be super fit. There are very few stoppages. Non stop. I actually think you as a country would really get on board. Could you imagine the Washington Capitals playing in the AFL. Maybe the Californian Cravens. Perhaps the Floridian Falcons or The Texan Red Wolves. I could. Food for thought.
Aussie rules been around for over 100 years how do Americans still dont know about it we get American sport on tv everywhere in Australia
Hey Pat , here's a few names off other players to look at interviewing - Erin Phillips ( @erinphillips131 ) - 2 time WNBA champion 3 time WNBA allstar turned AFLW great. She has won 2 premiereships , 2 MVP awards and 2 best on ground in grand final.
Max Gawn ( @gawndog37 ) - Melbourne Demons captain and great ruckman ( Mason Cox sometimes plays Ruck position) and he's an interesting guy.
Alistair Clarkson of Hawthorn football club is the best coach currently - and will easily be a hall of fame coach when eligible. Patrick Dangerfield ( @dangerfield35 ) - Brownlow medalist , Players Association president -250 games .
And an indigenous player like Nicky Winmar who took Australias most famous stand against racism.
MASON your an Ambassador for Australian / U.S. people/relations :P so shape up and play. Rock the world USA USA USA!!!!

it’s crazy how someone’s accent can change like that
Once these borders open up we are getting patty on a plane to punt a few footys for the gold coast suns so they stop winning the draft lottery every year.
i look forward to singing tigerland
You'll have to wait a little longer!
@@TheJonkerr7 looks that way. Wasn't a great game. Tigers a bit lucky there.
Alright Aussie here. Mason is an ok player. Not great, not bad, but just ok. Very inconsistent which is expected seeing how inexperienced he is. Still needs to work on his play when the ball is on the ground and is ability to impact the game around the ground not just when he is playing forward. When he is playing well he can take a decent mark playing up forward which is biggest weapon. Also West Coast is the biggest of the two teams in Western Australia. The other team being Fremantle. Both of those teams are based in the city of Perth. Another interesting fact about AFL is that 10 of the 18 teams are based in the Melbourne region, which is totally different to any sport in the U.S
Agreed, at his peak he can destroy teams, as a richmond fan I know that all too well, but he is pretty inconsistent at the moment. Cox is benefited hugely by the pies' midfield, he has a constant supply of the ball, but even then his raw talent is impressive.
Might seem to much to have over 20 teams but in the future WA needs a 3rd team aswell as a 2nd in the bbl. A concentrated place with lots of talent but not enough room to fit within the big leagues of sports.
look at Scott Pendlebury. Collingwood. Dude is a magician
Collingwood barrackers have the chant, because for most of them, it's the only English word they know.
