  • Nathan flew his own designed and 3d-printed F111 in RAAF colours and markings for the first time. What a great looking plane; complete with swing wings. This was also a test of his new catapult launching method - using 5.5 kg of force. Congratulations Nathan on a remarkable achievement. With a bit more power it would be even more impressive. See RC Groups for more information www.rcgroups.c...

    Thanks guys!
Yes thanks James, after some RCGroup dialog, looks like I need to constrict the exhaust down to ~85-90% of Fan Area. Which wont be too hard to retrofit and hide inside the scale exhaust.
No STL made available yet. Might have to do a couple revisions first :)

    Are the STL's available?

Splitting it between two always looses some power. Exhaust area matters of course, so the two combined might actually be too wide (although I don't know the specs), so reducing that might actually increase thrust. It has a really nice presence though, I hope you can get it going a little more confidently soon

Good to see enterprising Aussies show engineering prowess. I'm building one that is probably the same size of balsa and resin, some foam and plastic bottles for the canopy. Still scratching head as to fan unit. Have ordered 2 50mm 4s 11 blade fans or I have a 70mm 12 blade 4s that pumps 1800 grams static. Hmm major Scratch and math on power to weight with retracts and say 3300 mah battery and keep mass under 1600 grams. Love seeing Aussies instead of rc yanks on commission doing reviews ahahah.

Nice, he needs to go back and redesign his P39 to have a normal airfoil and flaps and retracts

It sure is impressive. There is lots more information on this plane on the following build thread: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?4073111-F-111-EDF-Swing-Wing-Release/page15
