Thank you very much for this video X, I haven’t paid any attention to competitive ow since Dallas so this video is a great refresher and context guide to help me for this week.
event starts in 2 days yet i've seen absolutely no talk from anyone about the event's format, broadcast, talent, match timings, where to watch, etc, besides from this channel. this is starting to become a pattern with overwatch tournaments...
i think it might be more of an ewc thing, i don't think blizzard wants to promote 3rd person orgs especially considering their track record in trying to keep owl more relevant than other competitors
I really like it that way. With it being a single elimination bracket, ft3 would’ve felt a little too random for such high stakes games. Ft4 makes it incredibly unlikely that a team wins without really deserving it (something which can happen a lot with ft3), so imo it makes a lot of sense.
FT4 Single Elimination is much better than FT3 Double Elimination, if it's fixed order for map types (Control-Hybrid-Push-Flashpoint-Escort), but it would be randomized or loser pick for each map it would be more interesting as would be more interesting to see, if some teams are better in those maps that usually appear later in the series. Also FT4 kind of eliminates the lucky wins that could happen with FT3. And before someone says "what about if best 2 teams face each other in quarter finals etc.?" well that's only issue if seeding is done badly. Assuming Crazy Racoons and Falcons are Number 1 and 2 seeds they shouldn't be able to meet up before finals assuming both of them would win their groups, but if one of them would not win the group it would be more than fine, if they meet each other earlier than finals.
I'm really excited to see how the hero bans play out. I hope it enables more comp variety map to map instead of just having one clearly dominant option.
Watching the Zeta Division section right now and it’s an actual shame they weren’t at Dallas. Whoever runs the OWCS majors should really consider changing up the qualifications or maybe even making it a 12 team tournament and bringing in a Chinese and Japanese team because there is no reason TM and NRG should be there when Zeta Division isn’t.
Coming back to this to understand how TM got the buy and NTMR got eliminated. TM is +2 on maps while Falcons are +3. NTMR and Fnatic are tied 1-2 and with map differential and NTMR beat Fnatic in their match so why did they get eliminated.
As a fnatic fan I would say if we’re gonna be playing echo we much prefer checkmate on echo instead of knife, unfortunately whenever knife had an echo mirror against a truly elite echo he kept getting diffed and losing every 1v1, while maybe this can be somewhat blamed on irony I think it was still his fault largely
also as an old fuel head, i've noticed over time that the core of hanbin, chiyo and fielder, they thrive on very static metas where execution is more important than on-the-fly adaptability. give them one comp and they will grind it to perfection, but like you said, curveballs can throw them off. idk how to put it to better terms, but they need to be a bit more loosey goosey when they play. i suspect that proper is of the same mentality because of how hard he is on himself whenever they fall short.
It might not work out, but at least it’s something new and never before seen, and it should lead to non mirror comp matchups which imo is the best pro ow to watch
@@pyrobite8463 i agree but i want to see players on their best heros, u take ur best player and make them a liability, like removing winston away from donghak will a nightmare for him
@@s.l2587 the problem with that is the meta has to be good enough so teams arent forced to play the same comp everywhere, which is usually not the case and one comp ends up dominating which is almost always the most boring thing to watch. At least in theory bans prevent this from happening every map
@@jonathangoliath91 and I won't. Just explaining why I will not be caring about that whole sportswashing charade in the hopes that Blizz can learn a lesson. Kuddos to all the work Commander X has been pulling out though.
@@jonathangoliath91am I tripping or would it be really easy for blizzard to get a decent prize pool for a tourney especially for the for few? They could bring back fan favorite skins initially (like pink mercy) and make a percentage or all of that money go towards funding the prize pool. They could also have fans crowd fund an amount and obv blizzard could put in a bit themselves say like 100-200k. Corporate greed ruins everything
@@Triskaansportswashing is definitely something to be aware about but in this first year post OWL where money just isn’t there and there is so much experimentation going on, it’s nice to appreciate a competition like this, as long as the word about Saudi sportswashing is being spread. Thanks for the video we all needed
Thanks for the excellent recap. Looking forward to the games.
The way you talk about the teams and players sounds like how your teacher would talk to you at parent teacher evenings lol

i didn't realize that EVERY game in the playoffs was Ft4 like jesus

That is just so much Pro Overwatch to do in one continuous period. They will all be so drained by the end of the tournament.

much needed video
great vid!!! personally prefer a single elim bracket as it makes every game feel important, will be interesting to see how the tourney plays out
great effort gone into the video thanks man .. my heart want's twisted minds ... but my mind says lgd will take the torney

Well TM we sabotaged by KSA leaving with KSA they have defeated ence a bunch of times and if they had a dive tank with Ksa it would've been better

i thought checkmate was signed for rein?
when does the tourni start?
Hero bans seem sorta scuffed, dont really think they have a place in OW but seems like they're gonna be
Agree w u
i feel like a lucio ban is an insta map loss for falcons...

it's 2020 regular season all over again
First.
Zeta would win if they have better off tank
Copium, Bernar is the tank of their dreams if they can't get Someone, Max or Hanbin
Incorrect Bernar is 2nd best tank in the world after Junbin
They have fearless too
Bernar is the best off tank rn what are you on about?
Bernar is cracked huh
Saudi money + no national teams. How are we supposed to care about this?
Don't like it, don't watch. Ewc is the only reason half the players aren't retired
I mean this was never supposed to replace OWWC its a different thing entirely
