I absolutely love the way some cynics think they are putting someone down by saying stuff like, "Mike Campbell? He sounds like he's ripping off Tom Petty." First off, everybody sounds like somebody. Second, how weird would it be if Mike didn't sound at least something like Tom when they played together for almost fifty friggin' years? I remember when Kobe Bryant came along as a teenager in the NBA. The put-down was, "He's just trying to copy MIchael Jordan by mimicking all MJ's moves." People, if you can play ball in such a way that it brings #23 to mind, go for it." If you can write and sing songs that sound similar to Tom Petty, please, more, more, more.

Mike Campbell sounds like Mike Campbell, if these songs sound like TP and the HBs it’s because Mikes been a Heartbreaker since day one and co wrote and co produced pretty much everything they ever did. Also the dirty knobs were a band 15 years before TP died.

In addition to being a formidable guitarist and songwriter, you are also an excellent singer and very much reminiscent of the great Tom Petty. Mike, don't you think about launching a book telling your entire musical trajectory? Surely your thousands of fans would like it. And congratulations on your taste for vintage equipment, Fender Deluxe and Princeton amplis. The sound of the 6v6 valves is too much. Together with their Broadcaster, they will be immortalized in the history of music.
I would definitely give that a read.
I've fallen for the Dirty Knobs just as I did the Heartbreakers. My wife is mostly Irish, and I couldn't hold back when I heard this. Gratitude to Mike for all those years creating classics with the irreplaceable Mr. Petty, and now with his new band, my god the talent, they are creating more. Salute.

@@michele21auntiem I thought the same thing when I heard it for the first time. But after spending 40 plus years with him, it’s obvious he knew what would work and he does sound a lot like him throughout this album.

So many of his and Tom's songs were so so good. So it is no surprise that one teamed up off of the other one. This is a nice song it really is. And Benmont Tench the song about this house is pretty and Gretel more our house really cool also
Funny thing is if you listen to the TP station on XM, you will hear Mike Campbell speaking, and sometimes he sounds just like Tom. I just smile and think it is wonderful!
