Hey, bro, how's it going? This is Mike Hayes, the skateboarder you mentioned. I was doing lasers on flatground (which no one in your segment did) in august 91, shortly after I got put down with Alien Workshop. The trick is named the Laser flip because it is supposed to flip fast. I'll try my best to find footage of 91 and post it for you. In the mean time, you can find my 1993 411 video magazine wheels of fortune part, where my first trick is a laserflip to maunel on a standard low manuel pad. thanks
@@sebastianplaum4667 No reason for it to be 'strange' even . Someone invents a trick, they look it up years later on YT and find this vid. Not rocket science. Just think- those Don T posts on random parts of the internet MIGHT (in some v.rare instances) actually be he! Laughing behind his cup of Covfefe! I wondered if it was a reference to Lazer trucks which came out in the late 70's. Magnesium - with great geometry for freestyle and street from my memory of them at that even earlier time.
@warallthetime bro relax a lot of skaters end up like that its just a danger of living the skating lifestyle especially for young pros who dont have any responsibilities
I'm glad I found your channel, videos like these are extremely interesting, especially about a topic that I like. I've been binge watching all your videos. Great stuff, keep up the good work.
I'm 38 with 3 kids and a wife. I miss skating so bad. watching RUclips for weeks now and seeing how sick the stuff kids do these days blows my mind. I wish I could go skate but I can't afford to get a broken arm or leg
Well, based on that Timecode video of Mike Hayes, it really wasn't the first one that set the tone, it was the one after heelflipping up the stairs then the multiple lasers with him doing the Laser Flip that (IMHO) stapled the actual term.
Beat me to it! I was right about to ask that! I guess you saw the video that talked about it. I always thought it had something to do with the fact that it was a "knockoff ollie/nollie" and a lot of knockoffs and bootlegs come from China. Supposedly, it's an old trick, I think I've seen it in a video around that Natas was in, although I can't be sure. Maybe RadRat can give us some insight.
Bo Turner did one in Alien Workshop Memory Screen which was released in 1991. That was the first one I ever saw and I remember seeing Pat Brennan's part too. They both are from 1991, but exact dates are harder to come by. Maybe you can confirm?
So, I know tins of skate tricks, but one question, what's the difference between a Bigspin Heel/Kickflip and a 360/Laser flip? Is it just a Tre/Laser with a 180 added, it would make sense as a Bigspin is a 3suv 180.
i think they look cool but considering how hard they are, they're not worth the grind. i've seen only one IRL and i immediately felt inspired to learn them, but after many months of trying, i had to give up because i started to lose more and more tricks lol.
Rad Rat Video oh okay man sorry to ask so many times I just wasn't sure you read it or not....I don't know much about them either I just know they were super popular for street skating in my jr. High school years and seemed to just drop off the face of the earth after like maybe a year I know world industries maybe some. Keep up the good work though love your videos.
I personally think calling it laser flip is heracy when you do a kickflip with a 180 you call it a FS/bs flip when u do it with a heelflip it's a FS/Bs heel same with varials so why on earth would a FS 360 heelflip be called laser flip I just call them 360 heels

@warallthetime bro relax a lot of skaters end up like that its just a danger of living the skating lifestyle especially for young pros who dont have any responsibilities

I think laser flips are so cool looking. Thanks for making this video.
Dude this channel is sick. Im about to buy a powell flight and start skating again.
Torry pudwill has a great laser flip
Torey Pudwill laser flipped a triple set in the Hallelujah transworld video for his ender and I've been stoked on them ever since.
I'm 38 with 3 kids and a wife. I miss skating so bad. watching RUclips for weeks now and seeing how sick the stuff kids do these days blows my mind. I wish I could go skate but I can't afford to get a broken arm or leg
Yay the Intro where the guy breaks his leg doing an impossible is back!
Well, based on that Timecode video of Mike Hayes, it really wasn't the first one that set the tone, it was the one after heelflipping up the stairs then the multiple lasers with him doing the Laser Flip that (IMHO) stapled the actual term.
Wow,you do good research! When I saw the title,I did say to myself."If Mike Hayes isn't in this..." Good stuff Bro.
Thanks!
Rip Pat Brennan.
Skated with him in 90 in pasadena
Not sure if you've done one on chinese Ollies yet? Would be interesting to find some stuff out about them
Beat me to it! I was right about to ask that! I guess you saw the video that talked about it.

You may be thinking of Eric Dressen in "A Reason for Living"
Forgot about Pat Brennan, really good
Torey Pudwill has mean laser flips.

Ishod wair switch laser flip is the best looking
Haslam has a great one
Cody Cepeda has some effortless af Switch Laser flips
Bo Turner did one in Alien Workshop Memory Screen which was released in 1991. That was the first one I ever saw and I remember seeing Pat Brennan's part too. They both are from 1991, but exact dates are harder to come by. Maybe you can confirm?
Never saw your videos before, but you got a sub outta me from this one. Super cool, dude.
Thanks!
Hey, not sure if you check comments for older videos, but where did you get the clip of Ofer Moses at 1:33?
I was under the assumption that laser flips were new, but boy was I wrong again :D
I seen Harold hunter do it in 92 but I know someone did it before
Lucas Puig for great lasers
So, I know tins of skate tricks, but one question, what's the difference between a Bigspin Heel/Kickflip and a 360/Laser flip?
Is it just a Tre/Laser with a 180 added, it would make sense as a Bigspin is a 3suv 180.
Dexter D Skates you are correct sir
You should make a video about heel dragging on nose slides, especially down hubbas, doesn't seem like its talked about much.
i think they look cool but considering how hard they are, they're not worth the grind. i've seen only one IRL and i immediately felt inspired to learn them, but after many months of trying, i had to give up because i started to lose more and more tricks lol.
Clear or translucent wheels? What happened to them?
I've seen you ask this a few times, but I just don't know the answer. Sorry
Rad Rat Video oh okay man sorry to ask so many times I just wasn't sure you read it or not....I don't know much about them either I just know they were super popular for street skating in my jr. Bones has clear wheels in SPF formula, but I'm not quite sure about street formula. bones.com/bones-wheels-spf-clear-natural-58mm-4pk
They suck on masonite and in cold weather and don't slide right in hot weather
PlanB questionable video best and my favorite video of all time
Yo rad rat, you said you make a video on impossibles on how they count as 3shovs, did you have a chance to make a video on it?
I did. It's recorded, but it won't be up for a little while.
Rad Rat Video sweet man! Alright I'm looking forward to it! Thank you!
In your opinion, what are some of the biggest gimmicks in modern skateboarding?
Interesting... I'm not sure. I'll have to give it some thought.
RIP Pat Brennen!!!
How did he die?
But the way R.I.P Pat Brennan, you are greatly missed.
What are your opinions on the Skateboarding Made Simple series by Aaron Kyro?
Never watched it before! Don't know.

Deshawn jordan has the best laser flips
Jimmy Carlin has a good one
I personally think calling it laser flip is heracy when you do a kickflip with a 180 you call it a FS/bs flip when u do it with a heelflip it's a FS/Bs heel same with varials so why on earth would a FS 360 heelflip be called laser flip I just call them 360 heels
Why are more and more companies getting decks made in china?

Try to find smaller local companies that don't.
Hamez sb baker 👨🏻🍳 is from Mexico
mike was the first..
I did a laser flip in ‘90, but it was in my driveway, it wasn’t on film, and only my mom saw it. So the answer is ME.
*robotic voice* MIKE HAYES
