Wow its crazy how much i forgot about my saturday mornings as a kid but the minute i hear the name of the show or see a quick clip all these memories come back.. I remember watching this with my sister
Oof, this hit my right in the nostalgia. This was my sisters show she demanded to watch on saturday mornings. Still 30 years later I still watch the music videos on occasion.
oh what do I remember about Kidd Video? Not much aside from the name Master Blaster, the Flip Side, and that as a little boy I had a crush on Carla. Also I seem to recall that this later aired on WGN sometime in the 90s. In the afternoon WGN had a a real thing about airing cheaply acquired cartoons. They aired Kidd Video for a while, the anime-ish version of the Little Mermaid, the old Three Stooges cartoon, Hulk Hogan's Rock And Wrestling, and real briefly they cobbled together Captain N, the various Mario cartoons and the Legend of Zelda toon as 'The World of Captain N'.
That show always gave me the feels...and that intro still does. Like a handful of other obscure 80s Saturday morning cartoons that I remember well, I'm surprised there were only 26 episodes...seems like it lasted a lot longer (I'm looking at you, Turbo Teen and Pole Position). Thanks for spending your time putting this together. You have a nice touch with this stuff.
When I was young, this cartoon actually inspired me to learn how to play guitar and sing at the time. I've actually found the album years ago online! Downloaded Video to Radio and put it on my iPod. One of my favorite songs of all time, I always raise the volume when it comes on.
I actually stumbled upon a digital rip of the album they put out about ten years ago. It consisted of the full (about 3 minutes) and TV edited versions (about a minute thirty) of each original song they performed - including the theme song. To this day the full versions of the theme and "Run" are still in my playlist and are listened to regularly.
I always loved this show’s theme music (still do), as well as the Roger Dean-esque surreal realm of the Flip Side. Pure 80s fantasy gold. Rather reminiscent of Michael Ende’s classic, The Neverending Story. Man I love that stuff. Thanks for the trip!
it's crazy you mentioned that. There was a Kidd Video Yahoo Groups that was very active, like back in the early and mid 2000s, up until around 2010sh? Robbie Rist is on facebook, and very active. I think the only one who just slid into personal life, was Bryan Scott(Kidd).
Yes, the same here. It was the last cartoon that aired for the Saturday morning cartoon run. And that meant that it was 12 noon and time to go outside and play.
If there's one person that captures nostalgia over the decades it has to be Robbie Rist. From playing Cousin Oliver to the voice of Michelangelo in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie to writing the song for Sharknado
YES! Thank you! Robbie Rist deserves a lot of credit here. Surprised Toy Galaxy barely mentioned him....he was the only established actor in the cartoon.
Love your channel!!! As an 80's kid, you really manage to bring back extremely happy memories and even better times. I remember getting up to watch Kidd Video and not really liking the cartoon portions, but I loved the videos! Thanks for this segment!
Shuki Levy deserves his very own vid dedicated to the sheer number of music he did for animated intros in 80s-90s -- and how *infectious* the vast majority of them are to this day!! Dude is a beast. He's pretty much what Mike Post is for prime-time TV shows.
I DEFINITELY remember this show!! There was a song that they did called "Run" during one episode that's slightly stuck in my head (other than the theme song, of course). I was wondering how you were able to cover them on this show coming in, but thank goodness for records in Israel! Your video on them is probably the most detailed coverage of the show that I've seen on RUclips.
Video game enthusiast Dan Jones has noted that one of his misconceptions about growing up was that adult life would be full of perils like surviving quicksand. In that same vein, thanks to shows like Kidd Video and Captain N, I definitely felt like I needed to be prepared just in case I got sucked into a portal and turned into a cartoon.
Thanks to this video now I know the name of the show. I remember watching some episodes but couldnt recall the name. I remember it was the first time I ever saw a double bridge guitar and thought it was so cool. Awesome video as always.
Scooter was my favorite go-bot. The toys were less expensive than transformers but I preferred them as I felt they were higher quality being made of die-cast metal. I was a particular kid.
I became obsessed with scooters because Kidd had one, i haven't been without a scooter since that show and still ride to work on one as much as weather permits! Also had a huge crush on Carla!
Man, just LAST WEEK I was saying to my buddy that I wondered if they ever escaped from The Flip-Side. After 30 years we finally saw Scooby-Doo capture The 13th ghost, I think it's time this group got home. Along with the Dungeons & Dragons kids and Will & Holly Marshall from The Land of The Lost. I AM 40 YEARS OLD AND NEED CLOSURE ON MY CHILDHOOD DAMNIT!
My personal head-canon is that they eventually DID find a way home and became a successful band. That's when all their music videos (the ones we see at the end of each episode) were made.
I originally watched it when a aired and love the show! I could relate because I was a very young teen and I thought wow here's a team group singing these cool songs.
Kidd Video, like Turbo Teen, is one of those shows that I thought I'd made up until RUclips came about. I remember really enjoying the show when I was growing up. And dude! E.T. cereal!

Back in the days of Napster, I found a good quality version of "It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing" which according to kvflipside.org has lyrics by Bernie Taupin. Also found a version of "Video Romeo" that's almost 4 minutes long and could have been released on the radio.
I Don't know if you know but ""It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing" was maybe the only song covered by another band, Eigth Wonder. Kidd Video sang it in 1984-85, and Eigth Wonder covered it in 1986-87.
Oh yeah I loved that show when I was a little kid. It has this really weird surreal vibe that you just don't see with too many cartoons and the music really was catchy. Neat to hear what they got up to behind the scenes of the series. Thanks for the video! =3
I remember watching this show as young child. I never remembered the name of the show. So thank you for that bit of information, that is now now longer lost to time!
Even as a kid I loved the theme song. I seem to recall the show having lots of musical references to things, with "the flip side" being the most obvious.
This is one of those shows that for a long time I wasn't sure if I had actually watched it or just made it up. Like the zombie outbreak episode of Smurfs.
@@de-daa Yup, they turned purple and ran around biting other smurfs on the ass (it's also one of the stories from the European comics). I had to hear the "Kid Video" intro to jump start my 39yrs young mind of mine full of 80's & 90's knowledge & remember "Kid Video". Look at Robbie Rist on the "keys" aka Cousin Oliver from "The Brady Bunch" & Martin from "Grady".
I think the live portion of the opening focused on "Cousin Oliver" more than "Kid Video" I think he was supposed to be the "star power" draw after the videos
How the hell do you keep doing this?! I was describing this show to a friend as a sort of vague recollection not even a week ago and you bust out an exposé! Don’t know how you got a transmitter into my brain, but keep it up!
Thank you! I had this snippet of the theme song in my head for years and couldn't remember for the life of me where it came from! It was the opening song to Kidd Video. I don't remember anything from the show, just that song.
I LOVED Kidd Video! I only just rediscovered it in the last couple of weeks. The few, seemingly, intact episodes that exist on RUclips are so, good I wish the whole thing could be released. I know it'll never happen, but what if...?
I use to love Kidd Video when I was a kid. I don't recall much about the actually show (I was 6 when it debuted), but there was this one song from the show that stuck with me more than the intro. Based on the lyrics in the chorus, I'm guessing the song was probably titled "T.L.C.". My favorite part was the 'bass' line in the chorus, which had this little riff that I have never forgotten for some reason. Maybe because it was AWESOME! lol EDIT: I found the song, and it's got all of that 80's goodness, complete with synthesizer, that I remember. Kidd Video - "A Little T.L.C." There was never a resolution of the band making it back from the Flipside, so here’s one: Title: “Back to Reality” Opening Scene: The episode begins with the Kidd Video band-Kidd, Carla, Ash, and Whiz-still wandering through the colorful and chaotic world of The Flipside. They’re tired, but determined. They’ve finally uncovered a clue, a mystical artifact called the “Harmony Key,” which they believe can open a portal back to the real world. Act 1: The band races against time as they discover that Master Blaster has also learned about the Harmony Key and is intent on stopping them. He sends his minions, the Copycats, to steal the key. A high-energy chase ensues through the neon-lit streets and surreal landscapes of The Flipside. Along the way, the band plays a new, upbeat song to boost their morale, their music giving them the edge they need to stay ahead of the Copycats. Act 2: The band reaches the portal site, a massive stage-like platform at the edge of The Flipside. As they prepare to use the Harmony Key, Master Blaster confronts them. He reveals that once the portal opens, The Flipside will collapse, and all of its inhabitants will be trapped in limbo forever. This revelation causes the band to hesitate-could they really doom an entire world to save themselves? Act 3: After some soul-searching and a heartfelt discussion, Kidd realizes that their music has always been about bringing people together, not tearing them apart. He proposes a different plan: instead of using the Harmony Key to escape, they use their music to stabilize The Flipside and create a bridge between the two worlds. They perform their most powerful song yet, channeling the energy of the Harmony Key through their instruments. Climax: The band’s music creates a dazzling light show, merging the two worlds into one. The Flipside transforms, becoming a place where the laws of both worlds coexist. Master Blaster is powerless against the combined might of their music and the Harmony Key, and he’s forced to retreat. Resolution: As the dust settles, the band realizes they’ve succeeded-they can now freely move between The Flipside and the real world. They bid farewell to their friends in The Flipside, promising to return and play more music. Back in the real world, they find themselves in their garage, just as they left it, but with a newfound appreciation for both worlds and the power of their music. The episode ends with the band looking at each other, smiling, and jamming out one last song, celebrating their return home-and the new possibilities that lie ahead. Closing Scene: The screen fades out with a final shot of the Flipside, now a peaceful and harmonious place, thanks to the band’s music. The door between the worlds remains open, ready for future adventures.

Ronald Reagan had a red one on his ranch. It was restored a while back.
For years, i thought i had imagined this show. No one i knew remembered it! i used to love it.
Omg I lived for Kid Video every Saturday morning🥰
I’ve been waiting 30 years for this video. Thank you!
Man I loved this show as a kid. Which I could find all the episodes.

"Master Blaster."

We just wanna watch a video.

@@simplysteve68 HE'S THE DUKE AND HE'S AYE NUMBE..! oh, wait a minute, that's the wrong IP. Sorry.
The group, minus Carla, appeared on Dance Fever back in the day performing a cover of Where Did Our Love Go. The clip is available here on RUclips.
oh what do I remember about Kidd Video?
I had a crush on Carla too. :)
@@Madbandit77 she was a pretty girl
So, the website where I downloaded the song is still up! Songs and Videos right here:kvflipside.org/
Kidd video and kids incorporated are the two in my head. 80’s kids had it the best. I try to explain to my kids what it was like. They don’t get it
Id love to see a "Where are they now" video with the live action actors from shows like Kid Video and Jem.
it's crazy you mentioned that.
That Subaru brat with the seats in the truck bed, soooo wanted one back then. Heck kinda do now...
potatoradio still want the Honda Spree
If there's one person that captures nostalgia over the decades it has to be Robbie Rist. From playing Cousin Oliver to the voice of Michelangelo in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie to writing the song for Sharknado
One time, Robbie Rist and Ted McGinley were on the same show, and the entire studio collapsed into a gravity well.
YES! Thank you! Robbie Rist deserves a lot of credit here. Surprised Toy Galaxy barely mentioned him....he was the only established actor in the cartoon.

@@shoresean1237 How Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015) was able to last another season after that happening twice was nothing short of a miracle.
Their song "A Little TLC" was and still is the jam!
The song I remember the most. They must have reran that one a few times for me to remember it. It's the song I mostly know by them.
DUDE!!! Talk about time travel, I can’t believe you guys did a video on this show! Radical!
Thanks to this video now I know the name of the show. I remember watching some episodes but couldnt recall the name. I remember it was the first time I ever saw a double bridge guitar and thought it was so cool. Awesome video as always.
I remember playing out the intro to the show as a kid with a Go-Bot named Scooter.
Scooter was my favorite go-bot. The toys were less expensive than transformers but I preferred them as I felt they were higher quality being made of die-cast metal. I was a particular kid.
Kidd video was very influential to my young mind. From it I become interested in engineering, computers and a desire to own a Subaru Brat.

@@Madbandit77 OH MY GOD! That was...holy crap...I feel like I owe you a life-debt or something now...
My personal head-canon is that they eventually DID find a way home and became a successful band. That's when all their music videos (the ones we see at the end of each episode) were made.
ToyGalaxy... I LOVE your obscure DEEP DIVES!!!
I originally watched it when a aired and love the show! I could relate because I was a very young teen and I thought wow here's a team group singing these cool songs.
Wicked show! I so loved that show and spot on with end of this show on saturdays time to go play....AHHH GOOD TIMES
Kid Video was my discovery to pop music, Kid Video😊
Kidd Video, like Turbo Teen, is one of those shows that I thought I'd made up until RUclips came about. I remember really enjoying the show when I was growing up. And dude! E.T. cereal!

Toy Galaxy is like LSD, I get flashbacks every time I watch this channel.
This was my favorite! Thank you so much! (I have it on VHS)
I LOVED this show........ I miss better days.... no politics, no bs, just FUN

Thank you for the look back! I loved Kidd Video back in the day and actually have a couple of the music videos on VHS!
I watched this show so much. I don’t know why.
Also, Haim rhymes with dime.

Even as a kid I loved the theme song. I seem to recall the show having lots of musical references to things, with "the flip side" being the most obvious.

This is one of those shows that for a long time I wasn't sure if I had actually watched it or just made it up. Like the zombie outbreak episode of Smurfs.
Zombie Smurfs? Was that the one where they turned purple and said G'nak! G'nak! ?
@@de-daa Yup, they turned purple and ran around biting other smurfs on the ass (it's also one of the stories from the European comics). For a long time I thought I had made that episode up in my mind because I couldn't find anyone else who remembered it. Then the internet happened and I was vindicated.

I still say, "See you on the flip side," and mostly get that crazy look, like, what are you talking about?
Thanks for keeping our 80's memories alive.
I was a kid that watched Kid Video EVERY Saturday.
LOVED their theme song. "From my viiiideo to my radio!"
Heck, I still love it.
Maybe because it was AWESOME! lol
EDIT: I found the song, and it's got all of that 80's goodness, complete with synthesizer, that I remember.

There was never a resolution of the band making it back from the Flipside, so here’s one:
Title: “Back to Reality”
Opening Scene:
The episode begins with the Kidd Video band-Kidd, Carla, Ash, and Whiz-still wandering through the colorful and chaotic world of The Flipside. They’re tired, but determined. They’ve finally uncovered a clue, a mystical artifact called the “Harmony Key,” which they believe can open a portal back to the real world.
Act 1:
The band races against time as they discover that Master Blaster has also learned about the Harmony Key and is intent on stopping them.
Act 2:
The band reaches the portal site, a massive stage-like platform at the edge of The Flipside. As they prepare to use the Harmony Key, Master Blaster confronts them. He reveals that once the portal opens, The Flipside will collapse, and all of its inhabitants will be trapped in limbo forever. This revelation causes the band to hesitate-could they really doom an entire world to save themselves?
Act 3:
After some soul-searching and a heartfelt discussion, Kidd realizes that their music has always been about bringing people together, not tearing them apart. He proposes a different plan: instead of using the Harmony Key to escape, they use their music to stabilize The Flipside and create a bridge between the two worlds. They perform their most powerful song yet, channeling the energy of the Harmony Key through their instruments.
Climax:
The band’s music creates a dazzling light show, merging the two worlds into one. The Flipside transforms, becoming a place where the laws of both worlds coexist. Master Blaster is powerless against the combined might of their music and the Harmony Key, and he’s forced to retreat.
Resolution:
As the dust settles, the band realizes they’ve succeeded-they can now freely move between The Flipside and the real world.
Closing Scene:
The screen fades out with a final shot of the Flipside, now a peaceful and harmonious place, thanks to the band’s music. The door between the worlds remains open, ready for future adventures.
AWESOME! That's a perfect finale.
Fantastic outro. 😊 How about an epidsode about Bill and Ted? The cartoon, Marvel comic and.... Bill & Ted's Excellent Cereal!
One of SO many 80s shows that I didn’t watch past the awesome theme song.
Wouldn't cha like to be a Pepper too? Yep Kidd Video was the last call show on NBC Saturday morning. Succeeded by Good Morning Ms. Bliss/Saved by the Bell, then California Dreams a few years after that and assorted kids sports news programs until NBC gave up on Saturday mornings.
Looking back, they are indistinguishable from the kids in Denver the Last Dinosaur.
So happy to see Kidd Video featured! That show was as 80s as you could get... it really should have been more popular! I did watch it a few times back then but only remembered when the internet came along. The best ep was when the actual live action Lionel Richie in his actual All Night Long music video was held hostage in the animated Flipside! LOL, can't make this stuff up! :D
Nobody ever knows what I'm talking about when I mention Kidd Video! I loved it when it aired.
That's a great sponsorship. Congratulations. Keep the content coming.
