Day 24: Snow on Mt. Taylor / CDT Thru-hike 2024

- I intend to hike the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) in 2024 and will vlog my experience. Follow me under "Old Man and the CDT."
I am Mike Current, 61-years-old, and retired military. I served for over 30 years in the US Army.
After retirement, I opened two small businesses. But after a few years, I sold both businesses because they were taking time away from pursuing personal goals, like hiking and sailing.
I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in 2020 and Appalachian Trail (AT) in 2022. I vlogged (video journaled) my experiences under "Old Man and the PCT" and "Old Man and the AT", respectively.
I sailed around the Chesapeake Bay in my Tayana 37 sailboat over the summer of 2023 and vlogged the experience under the RUclips channel "Old Man and the Sea."
I do not monetize my videos in any manner. However, if you would like to contribute to helping veterans thru-hike as a form of therapy for PTSD, please consider donating to Warrior Expeditions at warriorexpedit...
THANKS FOR SHARING ❤🤍💙
Wow, I really enjoyed Mount Taylor. Thanks for taking that alternate as there were some spectacular views. The cows on the way up continue to crack me up. They look so peaceful and in such a happy place. Thanks for taking us along. It's really enjoyable.
You're never one to shy away from a little extra challenge. Looks like the Mt. Taylor alternate was well worth it. You're staying strong!💪
Definitely worth it for the amazing views 😀
Grants is such a good stop. Will be missed.
Beautiful views! Totally worth the extra effort…easy for me to say😂 I’m looking forward to that alternate.
Beautiful view from Mt Taylor. I'm glad it was a great day!
My daughter is a few days ahead of you, I am enjoying getting a more detailed view of the hike from your videos
WoW So wonderful views!
Way to go Mike. 🥾🏔
Great views Mike, I'll be the night skies are magnificent
Great views from Mt. Taylor!!! Well worth the extra miles..
Hi Mike. What a great hike, and that side trip to the top of the mountain was worth the trip. Not sure how you made it down the snow covered mountain. The incline was really bad. Using that shovel for water worked, but it was just the thought of using it...... Thanks for sharing. Be Strong, Be Safe, And thanks for taking us on this Journey
Hey.. I’m so happy you enjoyed Mount Taylor! One of my favorite hikes.. and one my first summits.. also glad you caught your first bit of snow!
Happy trails!
Amazing views Mike, as always your video expertise is exemplary.
Bonus miles are one thing... Extra elevation with snow on the downhill side is something different. Looks like the views were worth it. Using your trowel to aid in water collection was unique. Thanks for taking us along.
Mike, the views from up on Mt Taylor were awesome. Thanks for taking that alternate. A bit dicey coming down, but you handled it like a champ. You're doing great. Sure am enjoying the trek. Take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.
❤👏🙏😊
Your good inspiration for me Mike, going to tag along ! That old BBQ has been there many years !
You found a tramily- they may be the 4 legged kind- but still.
What a wonderful 360 view on top. Makes me think about the Supreme Being who make all this!
Great videos. Love your attitude. And finally, someone who pronounced Cuba NM correctly.
A local corrected me while sitting in the Route 66 Junkyard Brewery in Grants.
Same thing happened to me, but in Las Cruces
Enjoy Chama when you get there.
Let's get it energizer
You can't beat views from elevation. Awesome job.
Too easy!!!
You’ve got the best attitude, it’s great. Got a question about food. Are there any foods you still like after all these miles?
BTW, just made a donation to WE.
Most food items I still like. I'm a creature of habit.
Great views from Mt. Taylor! You know where that trowel has been, right? Definition of sailing is being scared to death at 5 mph! 😀
The trowel is used for digging in the dirt. If the trowel touches anything else, the hiker is doing it wrong.
Wow amazing views up and down a mountain ⛰️ just a normal day for the Energizer 😅
Kinda scary going down though stay safe ❤
Do you know when you'll hit Cuba? If it's on the weekend, I can bring stuff up from Albuquerque to help you resupply.....REI, grocery, commissary, PX. Let me know if I can help.
Greatly appreciate the offer. I am in Cuba now: head out in the morning. I'm all good.
It's a pretty hike up and over the next 40-50 miles by San Gregorio lake to Rio Chama.
Enjoy!
