In this video...the saga of the perfect shop stool continues! I use a shop chair every single day that I'm in my shop. I need one that can get close to workbench height and low enough to work on brakes while a vehicle is on my lift. I need something that doesn't promote back pain.
I'm doing everything I can to avoid purchasing the Vyper chair! It's just super expensive.
This Harbor Freight Icon Shop Stool is pretty dang good for the price. I like almost everything about it.
In this video, we will explore what comes in the box, assembly and some initial thoughts.

Nice review. Mite have to give that a try now
Thank you for watching! I'm pleased with this stool. I think the best solution is to have a stool for the bench and a stool for work on the lift.
Nice seat
It’s not bad. Very comfortable. Wish it rolled better. You also can’t lean over much as it topples easily.
I've been using the Icon seat for about a month now. On day one I did not like the casters. I replaced them with ones from a company called Shop Skates. In my case I went with smaller wheels but the difference is night and day from the OEM casters.
I will have to look into that. I’m sure it’s better than trying to make one good stool out of three decent ones lol.
The seats on Amazon made by Whiteside Manufacturering something like that is the same company who make the Snap-on. Probably over $200.
The only difference between those and the Snap-on is Snap-on installs red wheels on theirs, which is the only thing they warranty on this creeper seat.
Those look very similar to this Icon seat. They're considerably more money though. They're literally double the price.
@@DemoDad101 Made in USA
I like mine. Had it for 6 mos or so. It's a mechanics seat, not a shop stool, so I don't expect it to be high enough to be able to work at my bench.
BTW - I've written HF corporate and suggested a shop / workbench stool with that same seat. Their other options too weak for my liking. I'm down to 245 from 330, but I still buy like it's supporting my former weight.
That’s a sound observation…although…the item name is literally: “ICON Professional Adjustable Shop Seat with Tool Storage”. If the casters were better on the Dewalt stool…I’d just put the Icon seat on it and call it a day.
Try out viper, I’m in the same boat rn and have been watching vids nonstop on those seats, hard to compete
I’m close to buying one. Need to give the Icon chair a little more time though.
@@DemoDad101 I am too, but seeing if any can compete, hence finding your vid. I hope it works out well you either way!
Did you try sticking the ram/seat from the HF onto the DeWalt base?
The casters on the dewalt base suck.
@@DemoDad101And are EASILY changeable. Danged site cheaper than a $600 stool. I have the Dewalt. I’m fine with it. Might upgrade the casters. Might not. I keep my floor pretty debris free.
$600 for a seat? That’s outrageous!
Until you look at that pneumatic one that lifts you from creeper position up to chair height.
Thanks for the review. For me none of them go low enough. Since I work off of jack stands.
I agree. However, Over the last 8 years... I've spent probably about that much trying to find a cheap stool that works well.
Put the seat on the Dewalt seat stand the post looked the same size
The only problem with that is that the dewalt casters are the absolute worst!
You are expecting the stool to perform a function it was not designed for. There is a reason it was built so low.
Right. All these other stools can get nearly as low. I’ve also found that the min and max heights that most of these brands market theirs stools with….are totally inaccurate. Which is why I was hoping this was taller.
How much was the member only deal?
It was $86.
Just swap the seats icon DeWalt hybrid
The Dewalt has terrible casters
how bout just putting the harbor freight seat on the Dewalt base?
I would but the casters are a nightmare on the Dewalt base.
Drop the seat on the other stool.
I would still be left with terrible casters on the Dewalt base.
