What happens is that people have no memory of the natural cycles. So they tend to base their consumption of Colorado River water on its peak, rather than on its lower output.

@@ashleybonanno3043 Arizona say they recycle most of their water. The farmers claim their crops are important. Vegas will probably say they bring a lot of money and tax revenue to the country, so at least the latter should offer to pay back something. And now California has got lots of snow to meet their future needs. On the bright side Colorado basin has been getting a lot of snow so that should help even more than in 2019.

And how much will it drop when the Lake Mead water (mis)managers decide to release it based on some formula or "management" plan that is out of touch with reality because it was written 50, 70, 100 years ago?
Since they will be (hopefully) draining sediment from Lake Powell, will Lake Mead be doing the same to to get rid of this extra sediment load?
Do they do anything to augment the disturbance of sediment on the bottom to increase the amount of sediment moved? Like a big "stirring spoon". Or some sort of "trawler" dragged over the bottom to loosen more sediment. Even using a big boat (tug boat?) to drag heavy anchor chains would seriously disturb bottom sediment.
How much will this release from Lake Powell specifically increase the level of Lake Mead, separate from the additional snow melt?

How crazy with all the conflicting laws, the right to drink water, farmers, recreation, wildlife, urban water needs, archaeology and California not giving a inch at the bargaining table.. It appears nothing go will come of a little extra water. I think Huge change is needed to the point that all these laws are erased from the books.. Whoever manages this water resource should manage it and all the other noise should stop.. Other wise many losers will create a mess.. At some point water rationing by one agency should become the norm..
In the 60’s Mexico sued USA for lack of water in Baja… The result was a huge desalination plant built at rocky point Mexico.. Perhaps californis should get more of their water this way.. In the 1880’s LA county bought water and land in Owens valley.. and Mono lake…over 300 miles away.. In those days water was needed for citrus not people.. Shortly after this Forest land was realized as important for water.. By the 1890’s forest reserves were created and in 1905 The Forest Service was created to keep forests in federal ownership and thus the feds owned many watersheds.. Teddy Roosevelt felt it was a crime for a county to control politics 300 miles from their border.. Much of the eastern sierra water is owned by LA county.. Go Figure

The benefit of water downstream, electricity, and monetary gain in no way compensates for the wild river and natural canyons destroyed in the process. Those who say this has done so much for the ecosystem really mean to say the economy system, for profit has replaced a cherished legacy that supported wildlife, plant growth, and the natural course that made the wild rivers irreplaceable. Instead of the natural course of the canyons and rivers providing wildlife with refuge and forage, not to mention the loss of Native American rock art and sacred burial sites, it is now men who dictate the course of the rivers. A natural heritage has turned into a political and financial pursuit and there are few who remember the beauty and magnificence that men have drowned.
