- Flash Gordon is an 80s classic. A camp comic book concoction starring Sam J. Jones, Melody Melody Anderson, a booming Brian Blessed, Max Von Sydow, Timothy Dalton, Ornella Muti, Peter Wyngarde and Topol. With a frenetic soundtrack by Queen, and directed by Mike Hodges it is a well remembered sci-fi favourite, and Scott Davis spoke to Melody Anderson (Dale Arden) about the 40th anniversary restoration of the film.
Plot:
A football player and his friends travel to the planet Mongo and find themselves fighting the tyranny of Ming the Merciless to save Earth.Flash Gordon is an American football hero who is skyjacked aboard Dr. Hans Zarkov's rocketship along with his beautiful girlfriend Dale Arden. The threesome are drawn into the influence of the planet Mongo, ruled by Emperor Ming the Merciless. The evil Ming has been testing Earth with unnatural disasters, and deeming our world a threat to his rule. He also intends to take Dale as his concubine, attempts to execute Flash and intends to destroy Earth. Flash must avoid the amorous attentions of Ming's daughter, and unite the warring kingdoms of Mongo to rescue Dale and save our world.
The 40th anniversary 4K Restoration of Flash Gordon (1980) is in select cinemas from the 31st of July, and arrives on BLu-ray, DVD, Collector’s Edition Steelbook and digital from August the 10th, 2020.

“The Wizard of Oz of our time...” I must agree; certainly my most watched film ever.
It's amazing that the football sequence with her as a cheerleader was all thought up on the spot. That was one of the most memorable and clever parts of the whole film.

I met Melody Anderson and Sam J. Jones at German Comic Con in 2015. They were surprised when I told them that there are german audio plays from the 80s in which the story from the movie continues. I had a photo taken with Melody, she is such a charming and lovely lady.

Classic favorite of a movie.Loved it as a kid,and love it as an adult.
I love her so much! She was one of my favorite actresses at the time. If you have the chance, check out "Dead and Buried" where she plays the schoolteacher wife of the town sheriff.
