Canary Islands Descendants Freddie Bustillo, Mari Tamez, and Joe Arciniega share the history of the 1,150 mile journey from Veracruz to present day San Antonio that 16 Canary Islander families took. Canary Islanders established the first civil government in Spanish Texas, and their family names are still found on streets and public buildings throughout the city.
