Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s supposed crusade against corruption is mired in controversy. There have been allegations that agencies have been misused, reinforced by a perception that the opposition has been made to shoulder all the blame while the BJP readily accepts anyone who can help it despite a chequered record.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha campaign, Sreenivasan Jain dissects these claims on the ground, and how voters perceive the alleged “washing machine phenomenon”.
On one hand, the Aam Aadmi Party is trying to put up a strong fight against the BJP despite the absence of its top leadership, including Arvind Kejriwal, jailed in the liquor scam.
“The game plan of BJP was to arrest our leaders in such a way that there is no leader left for campaigning for the AAP”, says party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj.
This, even as a liquor baron-cum-politician also linked to the scam, is freely campaigning as a joint candidate of the NDA in Andhra Pradesh.
And in Haryana’s Kurukshetra, where the BJP has fielded business tycoon Naveen Jindal, BJP supporters seem to have forgotten the charges against the former Congress leader in the coal scam case. They say he is like a diamond in the coal mine, who has finally found his place.
But are voters beginning to see through the double standards? Can the ‘washing machine’ be turned upside down?

One humble request. As no traditional news channel is unbiased now, Independent news channels like you should do daily news bulletins to give an alternative to the news channels.
We might watch the videos for individual topics from various channels here but for daily news sum ups, We have to refer to TV channels. I think this initiative will go a long way.

Sending Kejriwal behind the bars BJP encountered a big drawback at loosing or getting affected by about 18-20 MPs all over the country by loosing vote share! Good work Srinivasan Jain .. How much Kejriwal is involved remains to be seen but so far the ED, Police & CBI put together could not gather a tangible evidence in the liquor case!

As a documentary filmmaker myself, I know the meaning and industry usage of the term 'scripting' (especially in reporting and documentary domains). But (in my personal experience) when the average listener/viewer hears this word, they immediately think 'fiction' or made up/staged. I have more than just often, had to explain what I mean by 'scripting' to a lot of my (mostly) non-discerning audience/clients because while they do not understand the context of this usage in docu and reportage, they feel familiar with its usage in the layman world of the whatsapp consumer. So since some time now I have replaced the term with 'conceptualising' or sometimes even 'ideating' (although even these can lead to some confusion but they serve the purpose a lot better than 'scripting').
This is very similiar to the term 'editing'; which to the layman often means 'distorting'.
Yes, one can choose to remain a purist in such regard but I'd rather stay purist with other purists and not waste my breath in trying to constantly keep explaining myself to non-purists.

The case is so weak against Kejriwal that it's a joke he isn't getting any bail. Sec 45 of PMLA is what's keeping him inside. This case wont survive in trial. BJP messed up big time taking electoral bonds from co-accused in liquor scam and then getting him an LS ticket from NDA 😂

We can clearly see that the people who are supporting BJP lack critical thinking and they don't have a proper understanding/knowledge of what's going on in the courts, or in the country. Even the judiciary at least upto the High Court cannot escape the influence and pressure of the BJP government. And all of them are being used as a weapon to crush any opponent of the BJP. Naveen Jindal knows very well that after he has joined BJP, CBI and other Govt Agency public prosecutors will not produce proper evidence and make a weak argument to get his case dismissed. It has happened in the case of several NCP leaders like Prabhul Patel, Ajit Pawar etc.
