- Ragan Smith (USA) E Score Analysis
Things to note:
- Remember gymnastics judging is subjective
- Actual E score was 8.633
- Judging in real time and judging through a video is slightly different (since you only see it once in real life)
- I am a certified judge, if you have any questions please comment or message me!

Wowsers, there's a lot of deductions that I never even heard of. Thanks a lot for this informative video. Hope you do more of these! 😊👌❤
Love this videos! In my opinion some judges deducted only .1 on the ring and gave no deduction on the wolf turn and maybe no body alignment at 0:47
5 years after I correct my self there was no 0.3 for the arabian separation of the legs just 0.1. And there was 0.3 for the ring and the wolf deduction was for precision
Praise you for this. We need more of them.
That actually was a great routine!
Can you do Aliya Mustafina's bars routine E execution score? :)
Thanks so much, so interesting & informative. More films like this would be great !
Please do more videos like this! I absolutely loved it!
Love the grafic!!!! Amazing work as always!
Thank you so much :)
A. bom
Yes finally I love when you do this
These videos are so awesome!!
Could you do the same kind of video but for someone who would get artistry deductions? I'm curious to see what they would look like.
like Jade Carey
Jade Carey plz
mykayla skinner
Please make more videos about execution score. This Vedio helps to improve execution score of athletes. They are finding there mistakes and executing perfectly in there next performances.
I wish national and international competitions could post the deductions as they occur like this. It would give more understanding of the scoring system.
Very helpful. Thanks again!
I would also take a deduction for flexed feet and leg seperation on the double piked
I liked her old floor so much!!!!
Such a cool video! I have always wondered though - is there no deduction for finishing your wolfturn on floor whenever?
Like it always seems kinda uncontrolled to me when they do a double and overrotate it just to make sure they get it around and then stop at 2.35 turns
hm usually i do deduct and am strict on it but depends on the judge. i hate it when they over turn too :p hard to judge form a video cuz if i put in all the deductions here it would end up too many haha! i always notice more deductions after watching a few times
Isabella Kab no cause is part of the coreography if they fall before is a deduction
K
Hi, I love your channel, if there is any chance you could do Sophina Dejesus 2016 floor music that would be much appreciated, thanks so much!!
Thanks!
Could you maybe do a Kocian vs. Mustafina UB EF Rio 2016 one?
Shouldn't flexed feet (that is not part of the routine) such as on the double pike (1:22-1:23) be deducted too?? 🤔🤔
I’m pretty sure double piles are allowed to have flexed feet but idk
Claro Mepa Definitely not lmao
of course not duh
@@Johnsontaetoday Well you don't have to call me stupid 🙄
it did not seem jarring to me so i didnt deduct but you could definitely argue a deduction there
Great job, Emily!
Thank you!

Thank you very much for the amazing video! Just a question: why such a strong deduction for the switch ring leap?
i felt her foot didnt really reach her forehead/not much arch. body shape comes in 0.1/0.3/0.5 deductions only. It looked like more than a 0.1 so i took 0.3

E as aterrissangens com as pernas afastadas não são descontadas por quê?
Why so much deduction on the switch ring leap??
It wouldn't have been 0.3. 0.1 max.
Hasn’t the precision deduction for dance elements not been in the code since 2008?
Very helpful. I was wondering if you were judging her too harshly on certain deductions. I could see some easily but couldn't catch others due to her speed at those moments. After starting and stopping a dozen times to try to see the stills at the exact right moments I could see all of the listed deductions. This was great.
Yeah I always judge quite 'harshly' when I do these videos, but I spot all the deductions at one shot without pausing. Thanks so much for your support!!
I'm glad you're sharing your skill. It helps me appreciate gymnastics even more.

Would u mind explaining more on the deduction of body alignment and precision? Whats wrong with her after split leaps with precision deductions ? I dont understand...
precision is when the twist is not made round precisely and body alignment in the double arabian is because she was sideways
imã
Could u do one of these in jade Carey's floor? Thanks
Yes like I'm begging and plz do the artistry deductions
What about artistry deductions
Can you do Jade Carey’s floor routine from Baku 2019 it would be great to se where she gets her deductions
ok :)
bom
I'm surprised the wolf turn didnt get a precision deduction.
What was wrong with the switch ring leap?
In my personal opinion, there was no 0.3 deductions on that leap. It was perfectly vertical, her toes her pointed and her head was back.
how come one of the leg separation deductions took .1 off and the other took .3 off? Is it the severity of the separation or the move in which they separate?
the degree of separation! shoulder width would be 0.3 and anything less, 0.1 :)
💜💜💜
the legs crossed in the triple was on the flight or at the landing? i couldnt see it in the air
in the air
thanks. very hard to spot it on normal speed!
no it's not. it's so clear
if you can see it so clear, good for you.
Love it. Even if Simone Biles is my favorite and she's not perfect, I'd like to see what they should be scored.
Flip Fly Tumble
At first I found :
- 0,1 for the leg separation on the DLO
- 0,1 for the flexed feet on the DLO
- 0,1 for the Hop on the landing
- 0,1 for the foot replacement after the Hop (= little step)
- 0,1 for the crossed legs on the Triple Twists
- 0,1 for the leg separation on the landing
- 0,1 for the Hop
- 0,1 for the Body Shape
- 0,1 for the Gogean because she didn't hit the 180°
- 0,1 for the step after the Gogean
- 0,3 for the Cowboy position on the Double Arabian
- 0,1 for the leg separation on the landing
- 0,1 for the step
- 0,1 for the flexed feet on the Double Pike
- 0,1 for the Hop
= -1,7
I think this is a little more accurate but how do you deduct for artistry that gets me a little confused
@@omrianhussain4704
Now after rewatching this, I found -1.7 (with the artistry deduction) lol
@@omrianhussain4704
In artistry deduction, I took 0.1 for "lack of expressivness" and I think that the choreo was good and attractive enough
That’s tuff
Hi
Really no deduction for any of those bent knees and low chest? Actually this is what most bothers me on Ragan.
Actually Regan's technique of landing is what gymnasts are taught to be, with slight knee bend, and chest wall leaning forward slightly, it helps to absorb the impact of landing, balancing yourself and protecting the knee joint.
Landing like Biles with completely extended knee joint is really injury-prone. And gymnasts are taught not to lock your knee joint during landing. Besides, as long as her chest position is above hip level, it is ok.
Shannon Miller's tutorial on landings: ruclips.net/video/sGzc99vLrkU/видео.html
i don't see any low chest here. a 0.1 deduction would be when one's chest is at horizontal
hi
Artistry deductions missing
There aren't artistry deductions missing. Her choreography matches the music and she is actually performing with her face.

I agree except for two points that I disagree on: There is no way she got a 3 for the Switch Ring. A 1 at the very most. And she would not have gotten 3 for the Leg Separation on the Double Arabian. Again, a 1. You gave 8.3. Give her those 4 tenths back, and it's an 8.7, which is much closer to her actual score. I think the judges may also have taken one of: 0.1 for leg sep on the 1.5 step out, 0.1 standing in the corner on two feet for an excessive time before the Double Arabian, or 0.1 for the pause before the Double Wolf. Otherwise - a great analysis and I pretty much agree with you on everything else. And she certainly would have gotten 0.0 for artistry - which is VERY rare these days. She may have been one of only 2 or 3 that escaped an Artistry deduction that day.
how a judge gives an artistic penality?
Your harsh she has a higher execution score than that
it was probably 8.6 so not far off also read what i wrote in the description
Que música chata!
