Jorg, good spot indeed. So the block on the table was part of a first run of the mould where we had some issues with leads which we managed to sort out in the final version you see being machined and inspected at 12:48.

@@adskFusion It needs a better practical use in production. Taking it back into fusion 360 to check is a bit cumbersome. It needs to go faster. How about integrate the phone app into this. If inspection routine is all good, you should just get a "green light" in the fusion phone app or something. If it has something wrong you can get the model with points that is wrong displayed in the 3D viewer in the app.
I know that will be difficult in terms of network work and access to files and all. But when has Autodesk stepped away from a challenge? Keep walking this awesome road!

  • @dudemcgee256

This is a wonderful addition to Fusion 360. Unfortunately it doesn't come with it. You have to buy a subscription to it to the tune of $125 per MONTH!!! This is VASTLY more expensive than the entire Fusion 360 software package. What the heck Autodesk?? I honestly can see why you guys added most of this as an extension with a paid subscription. The additive manufacturing sounds like an entire software package in itself. But Steep and Shallow should have just been added to the 3D strategy's already contained in Fusion. It's the only thing that Fusion has been missing in the CAM package for a complete toolpath solution.

Hey Josh, sorry that the decision to put this in an extension doesn't sit well with you. We're listening to feedback on this change, and will use it in determining next steps. Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback!

@@adskFusion No problem! I absolutely love your product. It has made my life much easier in many ways! I'm just bummed because I'm a mold maker and this toolpath is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. Right now we use the scallop toolpath. We find it's a good compromise between surface finish, the time it takes to program the toolpath, as well as minimizing witness marks from directional change over multiple ops. We like flow, but with complex organic 3d surfaces, it takes a long time to select all of the faces. So it's not very cost effective. I would literally use the Steep and Shallow toolpath all day, everyday. I just can't justify the cost as we have built our business model and pricing around our current operating costs. Thank you for your fast response! That's one of the many reasons I love Autodesk.

Well, this is about the best response we could have asked for! Thanks so much for providing details on what is is your up to, and where the extension pricing is causing trouble. We hope that you get a chance to use Steep and Shallow in the near future. We love our users and hope they know it!

@josh.... imagine how Inventor CAM & HSMWorks users feel, paying way way above what Fusion 360 users pay, and have been waiting far far longer for their CAM product to get the 3D surface toolpaths needed to do the job properly. Only to find it's been added to an additional subscription only available to Fusion 360 users. I think putting the surface inspection stuff and advanced 5-axis toolpaths in as an additional subscription would be fine... but anything which solves long standing issues with existing functionality users have been sold on... they really shouldn't be charged for.

@@adskFusion You make a product that gets ever better. The extension package includes a lot of functionality that it makes sense to pay extra for (ex the probe utilities) and I think that it is fair that you pay for ex. generative design etc. The reason that the steep and shallow tool path seems like bait and switch, is that you are building the most amazing product for people moving form CAD only to integrated function, and MANY novice CAM users. The steep and shallow tool path is like the - i am to ignorant about tool paths to choose the right ones, so I press the magic button tool path. From a business moral view point I think that this part is out of tune, as 3D adaptive roughing + the steep and shallow tool path is essentially what the novice with a €1000 router needs to make parts.

What are the chances of an I++ post to use this surface inspection with a CMM? I would give anything to be able to program my CMM from within Fusion. Especially integrating in process inspection.

Saw the video a few days ago about this but simply couldn't get to the place with pricing etc, so gave up looking after 20 mins or so. No idea who "organised" that part of the plan but reading below, it seems you are now trying to charge $125 / month?!!! Really? Well, good luck with that and perhaps the guy who came up with the idea will move on shortly.
Given that most(?) users won't be paying for this, please arrange an option to hide these annoying features from the menu bar.

We appreciate the feedback, Murray. Wondering what/how you were searching for when you were unable to find the price. It should be right there when you click the wrench in the corner, or the information "i".
Per the ability to hide the extensions, I would recommend you submit this to IdeaStation as it doesn't currently exist (at least I was unable to find a similar request). forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-ideastation/idb-p/125
