Hi Mike, as a Fendt mechanic for over 30 years now I can only appreciate customers who keep their tractor clean. I'm willing to take their carpet out, put cardboard on the floor, put a plastic cover over the seat and even clean the cab when I'm finnished. However I will never take my steel nose safety shoes of because if I ever happen to have an accident at work while not wearing my safety gear, the insurance company won't pay me a €. So I hope you understand my point of view on working on your socks. Greetings from Belgium and I hope the weather will allow you to continue your work asap.
Better yet, you should get the plastic booties for your boots if you work at any proper professional environment. Tractor stays clean, you have steel toe boots. Win win
@@calvinwright1816 It's a good idea but not very practical. When doing tractor diagnostics I easily step in and out the cab at least 20 times an hour. If I have to remove these covers and put them back on each time I make a move, I won't be doing much else during my working day.
Hello Mike. With us in Switzerland and in Germany I own a lot of agricultural land I mainly make a lot of hectar of Potatoes have had to remove thousands of large stones before planting the potatoes.
We used the cambridge rollers on grain or legumes. Smoothrollers are only used on Graslands to initiate tillering. It lets the gras grow stronger. greetings from germany
Good roller tutorial. The before and after made it clear to us the effect of the machine. I'm not a farmer but have driven by rollers parked in front of machine sheds and wondered about their purpose.
Oh Mike I think your funny great, actor, not only the rollers will push your small rocks into the soil, the rollers act as a pat down of the soil to keep the moisture in the soil it also gives a even strike of your seeds making a even seed bed, the Chinese farmers have been doing this for Centuries, but in your case you have the problem with the permafrost pushing the old Glacier rocks up , so rolling the fields helps keep the fields flat and safer to harvest, regards Best Wishes with your sowing of all of your crops, Trevor.W.Bacelli. We don’t have rock pickers or rollers around here. I remember as a kid helping my grand dad pick a few once but none have been seen again. I figured some pioneer hauling rocks to his farmstead broke an axle on their wagon and dumped them to get his broken wagon back home.
We in Germany use Cambridge Rolers or others like a Prisma. I thing there are easyer to pull, because the bulldozing effekt is less. Also the Strukture of the ground is better and water can infiltrate easyer.
Thanks for the video. A landroller is probably as low tech as fieldwork implements get. Extremely simple mechanically, no electricity or PTO needed and only needs hydraulics to put it in and out of transport mode. :-)
Ayy Mike; regarding the terrible spring idea on the gap filler rollers. Why not drop the springs off at the dumpster and replace them with a turn buckle ( heavy style as in a category two adjustable third link off your three point hitch) that will make the connection rigid so you’ll have the same ( adjustable ) down pressure as the entire roller gang. It’ll be a trade off as in ; when crossing a gully; the gap fillers will become wheels and carry the roller Gangs off the ground. I guess ultimately you could go hydraulically loaded gap fillers with a nitrogen cushioned accumulator but if rite way we’re fair dinkum about the product, it would be built that way. Regards from sth east Australia.
We used to hand picked on our quarters that we grew hay on (320+ acres) 40+ years of picking rocks and no matter what,no matter how big the rocks you pulled out they just keep coming out of ground haha
We also picked rocks on all our farm land here in Southern Ontario....but and a big but...was we always left some behind for seed so they would grow and have little ones for next year. 🤪🤣😜
Hi Mike, An idea to get rid of those tracks would be to fit your tractor out with tires like they use on golf courses. I have experimented with both and I prefer the second choice over the first any time. I’ve used mine for plowing in the past with no problem. Want to get no ruts get rid of those dirt digging tires. Be careful and stay safe 😀
Great video. Interesting well engineered machine and the way it is constructed and folds / unfolds. Looks pretty. Super how you showed when the wheels start to spin, what duals and four wheel drive do. 👍👌 Wonder if it would be possible to redesign and collect the rocks the same time in one go ... 😉 Further, can you show one day how the small in between Rollers via the springs are pushed to the ground with that spring? Was thinking all the time, what happened to that one spring that came loose at one side..
Mike, i got a question. For those small rollers in between the mains, have you thought about hooking up hydraulics and a swivel joint on them so you can adjust the pressure the small ones are putting out? Not sure if the cost/benefit is favorable but thats what came to mind
@Mike Mitchell whatever vacuum you get..get one with a 4" beater brush. I (son of an engineer) have personally been pretty happy with Bissell products but I'm not sure what they offer in this market.
Mike, I would buy a large plastic thermos lunch box that will hold your shoe and keep them on the outside of the cab - el bungie cord.. less cleaning and no dust inside cab.

How come you don´t use Cambridge rollers? I´d think with a climate as dry as yours, a little texture on the surface would help keep the moisture? It would still bury the rocks, I think - but I have no experience with pulses...
How come you didn't fix that spring that was disconnected before you rolled or before putting it in road position. Or is/was it something you didn't need to do anything about until you can just get around to doing.
Hey Mike with that land roller have u had any issues besides thoes little rollers. I work with Riteway as a Assembler in regina. And I know we are always looking for ways to improve the equipment

Mike the proper term for digging with your tyres is wheel slip! Also do you use sat navigation and auto steer with the roller. In your dry conditions does rolling help to retain moisture?
Hi Mike Greetings from England uk been watching your videos for some time now thought I better start subscribing Great efficient operation you have out there with solid dedication to what you do Recently received tee shirt good quality best wishes for the future to you all.

You do a good job of explaining how the machines work.....& why they are required, Mike!

Tkx for the roller info. I only got a glimpse of a roller in another video once, but always wondered about the details.
Can never have enuff Mike Mitchell movies thanks bud
Lmao mike your awesome and funny. No one who ever had to deal with rocks don’t understand. We found new rocks every year on our farms
Great quote at the end, "Its the dirt that pays for them"
Everybody is talking about fridges when it's actually built-in shoe boxes the farmers want on their equipment. :D
Nope. He's the only one who does that
Mike thanks for showing why they apply landroller in the field.. Gracias!

We use a Degelman 5 plex 80 ft roller here in Biggar, Sask.
Very interesting tool. Don't blame you for wanting to work in a clean cab.
10:20 Yeah these little ones roll pretty badly **shows a example on the one with the unhooked spring** :D
I roll wheat and barley for better germination of the seeds, in dry conditions

Omg you should see how filthy some of the tractor cabs are that come into the dealership where I work..... your ocd would not be able to handle it.
Mike, we use those rollers here in Iowa on soybeans for the same reasons you do. You take care, stay safe and good seeding.
we have a 60ft 3-section.. Even pulling with a 535 and triples it will dig a bit on loose soil. You could fill the small rollers with sand probably.
When you said "rock n roll"...quite literally 😂😂😂
It's only a matter of time before there's a central vac option that pulls out of the a pillar. Mike will be the first customer.
