Get on the tracks! The Halton County Radial Railway (HCRR), which is a full-size working electric railway and museum with two kilometres of picturesque track and old electric railcars, is situated at 13629 Guelph Line in Milton, Ontario. The Ontario Electric Railway Historical Association (OERHA), a nonprofit educational organization, is the owner and operator of the HCRR. The HCRR takes pride in being the first and biggest electric railway museum in Ontario.
The OERHA is made up of engaged individuals who give their time freely to maintain, renovate, and run the museum for its numerous visitors all year long. There are numerous ways to help out at the HCRR, and new members are always welcome.
A group of men who wished to prevent the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) streetcar 1326 from being transferred to the scrap yard founded the HCRR and OERHA in 1954. The dream expanded with the donation of this streetcar. The Toronto Suburban Railway's former land in Nassagaweya Township was purchased, which led to the eventual rescue of a number of other street and radial cars. In 1972, the museum's public grand opening took place.
The HCRR's mission has always been to educate, inspire, and inform the public about the history of electric railroads in Ontario and across Canada.
