This song hit me..i never understood what it meant... As a teenager i was dark and dug my own hole.. , now I'm 21 and gave myself to Christ and understand this so much on a spiritual level.. Thanks Creed!
I have battled my own demons for years and was at the point of where I thought I would never go until I found this song. Scott Stapp literally saved my life with this song, and I could never thank Creed enough for everything that they've done for me and my family.
I know Creed is originally from Tallahassee and used to live just down the road from where I grew up. I stop by that very house every day on my way back from work. I've formed a very good relationship with the new owners. They never knew the history behind the home until I reminded them of the song "With Arms Wide Open". They were humble enough to let me into their home where we would occasionally drink a cold Budlight and listen to some of the songs that we imagined were written in that very same room.
I think Mark Tremonti's voice singing in that background is even better. That's what grabbed me about this song! And the harmonies with both of their great voices!
As a suicide survivor, this song cuts me deep. I've always loved this song. Always will love Creed! My struggles with my mental health illnesses are a beast but the lyrics...damn! Soothes my soul for real
Lyrics: A court is in session, a verdict is in No appeal on the docket today Just my own sin The walls are cold and pale The cage made of steel Screams fill the room Alone I drop and kneel (And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) all held captive Out from the sun A sun that shines on only some We the meek are all in one I hear a thunder in the distance see a vision of a cross I feel the pain that was given On that sad day of loss A lion roars in the darkness Only he holds the key A light to free me from my burden And grant me life eternally Should have been dead On a Sunday morning Banging my head No time for mourning Ain't got no time Should have been dead On a Sunday morning Banging my head No time for mourning Ain't got no time (And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) all held captive Out from the sun A sun that shines on only some We the meek are all in one I cry out to God Seeking only his decision Gabriel stands and confirms I've created my own prison I cry out to God Seeking only his decision Gabriel stands and confirms I've created my own prison (And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) All held captive Out from the sun A sun that shines on only some We the meek are all in one (And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) we're held captive (I created) Out from the sun (I created) A sun that shines on only some (I created) We the meek are all in one (I created my own prison) Should've been dead on a Sunday morning Banging my head No time for mourning Ain't got no time
I can't say enough good things about this song.Scott's voice is powerful , Tremonti's guitar is haunting and the lyrics are just poetry.Oh yeah , and they're not afraid to include our maker , God in the lyrics.I'll forever love Creed. Haters are just jealous !
People need to listen to the lyrics of this song. I have created My own prison/depression. I forgot to look up. This song reminds me who is there to rescue and save me. When my son became a father of a son I messaged/shared the song ARMS WIDE OPEN. It's a beautiful song. Creed is awesome. They sing about life... just listen
It's interesting how I've always appreciated this song, but the older I get these words cut deeper and deeper. I feel like I'm in a prison of my mind where the battle of good and evil goes on. Depression, anxiety, doubt, feeling I can't do anything right is sadly my norm and I can't break these shackles and escape the prison.
47 years old and I'm right with ya my friend. Your own mind is a terrible place to be in at times and can be your own worst enemy. Deal with it a lot... More and more daily....lots of hopelessness there...
I understand. Life is a toilet. I hate it. But I keep stepping live by faith and try to do people right even when they shit all over me. Keep doing good it’ll come back

You have read me wrong. See, I loath pop music, and grew up a metalhead. 1D, which I assume is One Direction, is not good music. Pantera, Metallica, Judas Priest, and FFDP is more my jam (pun not intended).
1. Not a religious band 2. You believe because your grasping for anything. 3. The devil quoted scripture? Well, Christ also spoke out against religion. Every religious person thinks they're not religious. You can't see religion until your out of it.
@@JaysonT1 It's clear that this song is about religious redemption. It's pathetic how little atheists with a bad life come to here with a bizarre interpretation just to feel good with their insignificant lives.
One of my favorites by them! The instrument composition is so haunting in those verses.. the sadness, despair singing in the guitars and bone chilling bass. Scott’s voice is by far one of the most powerful in all of the history of rock music! Just an overall powerhouse of a song.
I love this album. it's about his difficulty with faith and christ. I feel like this is something that many can relate to. for me it's not about my relationship with christ but with God. I feel like he and I have alot in common.
I’ve always loved Creed’s music even when others didn’t. My best memory is when my late husband took me to a concert to see them on one of our dates when he found I loved them.
The lyrics in this song, from start to end, are some of the best (if not the best) I've ever heard in a "rock" song. The lyrics use the power of symbolism to reference stories/lessons from the Holy Bible over and over (too many for me to explain all of them). By far my favorite verse is " I cry out to God Seeking only his decision Gabriel stands and confirms I've created my own prison". The reference to the archangel Gabriel delivering the message is outstanding and so deep it gives me chills every time I hear this song. (this is my interpretation so that's all it is. I could be wrong) Awesome song!!
Very very..very good song....since i heaf fir firts time....still today....I LOVE IT i am preparer tje cover with my band in CHILE.....and to play in the street....
It is an amazing song. A mans own personal hell that he created for himself. And the realization that no one can help you, and that youve done this to yourself. Its an immensely introspective song, i assume he wrote when we was doing drugs, which makes it even more powerful. Love Creed.

I don't and haven't covered any of the bands songs but still enjoy the hell out of them. To those who made positive comments on Creed , Two thumbs up and you all have great taste! Dave B

@@jasonpeduzzi8897 And God allowed you to create your own prison. If you give credit to God for getting you out of your own prison, then give Him credit for getting you in there in the first place. He indeed gave us free will to make poor decisions and good ones, hence your leaving your own prison.
I used to be a creed hater. My brother had his faith renewed and I got clean and sober soon after. Finding God and accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and savior saved my life. Now I really appreciate creed, not only for the music and the lyrical content (which is amazing) but also that as a band they’ve gotten so much hate (much like Jesus did) and still manage to make such amazing and touching music. People that don’t like creed fascinate me. 90s were it. The in between. This album will be played at my funeral
Huge comeback from Creed. Well deserved
Once upon a lifetime ago, this band was on top of the world. It was a different world than what we know today. It was a better world. 😣
I agree it was a better world Now it’s not
Egh. We were just younger and less aware of how bad things were. A lot of things are better. Those that aren't, we're working to fix.
And, the BEST is yet to come!

This song hit me..i never understood what it meant... As a teenager i was dark and dug my own hole.. , now I'm 21 and gave myself to Christ and understand this so much on a spiritual level.. Thanks Creed!

Love it ! It's deep . God bless you .
Please give Thanks to GOD too. 😊💗
😢😇
I hope you’re okay, brother.

I think Mark Tremonti's voice singing in that background is even better. That's what grabbed me about this song! And the harmonies with both of their great voices!

Lyrics:
A court is in session, a verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
(And I said oh)
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh)
all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
I hear a thunder in the distance
see a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally
Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time
Should have been dead
On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning
Ain't got no time
(And I said oh)
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh)
all held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
I cry out to God
Seeking only his decision
Gabriel stands and confirms
I've created my own prison
(And I said oh)
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh)
All held captive
Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
(And I said oh)
So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh) we're held captive (I created)
Out from the sun (I created)
A sun that shines on only some (I created)
We the meek are all in one (I created my own prison)
Should've been dead on a Sunday morning

It's interesting how I've always appreciated this song, but the older I get these words cut deeper and deeper. I feel like I'm in a prison of my mind where the battle of good and evil goes on. Depression, anxiety, doubt, feeling I can't do anything right is sadly my norm and I can't break these shackles and escape the prison.
Keep your head up and don’t let your negativity consume you. Things can only get better for you when everything has fallen apart.. be strong my guy!!
Your know how and inner strength is with in yourself, dont question it.. Be the one to rise when no one else will.
Turn to the Lord Jesus, he's our only hope.
47 years old and I'm right with ya my friend. Your own mind is a terrible place to be in at times and can be your own worst enemy. Deal with it a lot... More and more daily....lots of hopelessness there...

It is an amazing song. A mans own personal hell that he created for himself. And the realization that no one can help you, and that youve done this to yourself. Its an immensely introspective song, i assume he wrote when we was doing drugs, which makes it even more powerful. Love Creed.

Creed rocks!
Getting old is realizing you hated on bands like this for no good reason
