Seems like really dangerous advice if you abstract "systems" to be anything outside your direct sphere -- as it could lead to inaction, or worse, oppression of others à la "I don't have to change my habits, I'll just force other people to change theirs!"
I'd argue that the advice in this video _is_ changing yourself anyway. It's changing your own habits by changing your own living space.

Okay, so I took your advice.
I am a wife and mom, and I enjoy playing video games. I have a desk where I play games on my pc, located in the living room. I can get a little too caught up in it sometimes and feel disconnected from my family and the environment while I'm enjoying my hobby. I also have a tendency to snap at people when they interrupt me while I'm gaming.
Resolution: Be kinder to my husband and kids when they ask for my attention. Don't get so hyperfocused on my game that I lose connection with the people who matter.
Solution: MOVE MY DESK SO IT DOESN'T FACE THE WALL WITH MY BACK TO THE ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD.
I moved my desk into the command position - literally just dragged it 8 feet over so my back is to a wall, instead of to the room. I can see all the pathways through the room, so I'm not startled by people coming up behind me and thus can be more pleasant! I can also see everything going on in the house, which helps keep me connected to the family and well engaged with them while still enjoying my favorite hobby.
Somehow, the change actually made the living room more spacious - plus, it contained my clutter between the desk and the shelves behind.
What an amazing change for the new year, and it was so easy. Thanks, Feng Shui guy!

I love how forgiving - and practical - this is. Doesn't need to be super tidy all the time, as long as the mess is somehow contained and doesn't stop you from inviting friends etc.
Actually.... I have ADHD and taking care of my home is soooooo difficult. For a while I managed to keep my kitchen in order, ONLY the kitchen - but that much of an area I was able to keep up, it was easier to maintain when the base level was a tidy space, and it was motivating. If I had spread that same effort all over there wouldn't have been any noticeable difference and no (semi)permanent change.
With this strategy I can try to slowly spread out the clean space.
I had a "relapse" but now trying to make progress again.
Only needs a few weeks of lower mood or being sick and everything just EXPLODES...
ADHD, depression, chronic illness and being a single mom is not a great combo.

If your children are at least 2.5 years old... teach THEM how to clean up. Use the time you need to spend anyway organizing the rest of your house to explain "why" each item belongs in its spot. Clean WITH your kids at a set time.
You get a clean house - and they learn a valuable life skill!

Oh I really feel for you.....that's a REALLY tough gig you've got there. Remember yours and your child's well-being and relationship are the most important things here. These values are SO hard to claim in a society that puts perfection and image as the hallmarks of achievement and normality. If you practice the value of true well being it may free you from the toxic pressure of so called "normal" society. You can only do you 🙏 and that is enough. Caroline Winkler has a great video called, "Why is my house always a Mess". Might help? Could you reach out for some practical help? Some kind of government subsidised home care? Or ask your local church if someone could help you with the house? Just some ideas, I hope they are of some help. All the best. xx

I discovered your channel just two days ago and after binge-watching a number of your shorts and videos, I spent the day re-arranging my home working space in the living room as well as other parts of the living room (and did some much-needed sorting at the same time). Now I have a nice interior-facing workspace instead of staring at the wall all day, and I feel more in command already, not to mention I opened up the living room space so I now actually feel like using it. It's not perfect but is a definite immediate improvement. I just bought your book as a show of support and look forward to reading it.

It's true. I like to work on clean environments to feel productive, and "free" minded.
I worked at a very small place;the person on charge was messy, kept the whole place messy, and I felt trapped and I couldn't think properly.
I tried to change the environment to fit me; it was a constant battle between me and him making the whole place a mess in no time.
    I left soon after.

I came to this epiphany sometime last year. People don't have trouble achieving because they're lazy/unmotivated. It's because there are obstacles and barriers. If I can dissuade someone from breaking into my house by putting a table with a plant on it in front of a tempting window then you better believe I'll be dissuaded from exercising for some other simple reason.

My room looks exactly like the first arrangement, only instead of a dining table there is a double bed. After living here for a year I figured out I like my desk by the window so I can see outside, so it's in between couch and TV and I sit with my back to the TV. Doesn't look ideal when you come in, but is so far the most practical arrangement to actually sit at the desk frequently...

wow! this is the advice that americans of my generation need to hear. no one taught us that the home is where habits are built and so we often ignore our homes and struggle to have control over our environments, and therefore we struggle to control our behavior. thanks for helping to fix this dilemma

The basic idea of this is extremely important to neurodivergents. Perhaps especially to those of us who are more neurotypical-passing, because we naturally get more gaslit into thinking we can and should change in ways we often can't, and should waste no energy trying to.

Your way with words is impressive.
The title reads like a palm oil company ravaging the rainforest for good conditions, but it is actually a different environment being adressed.
You also sprinkle in passive insults that comedically and accurately depicts the figurative problem.
    Bravo!

When I was in college for a bit there was a gym at the school. Which seems cool, but even when I had a class that required me to go workout, it was so difficult to go there because it was still out of the way of where and how I usually spend my time.
Fast forward to now and I’m more active than ever and actually losing weight and gaining muscle cause I work full time retail and have to walk/take the bus everywhere since I don’t drive. It ain’t ideal but I’ve been improving my physical health just by adjusting my surroundings in a way
