Self-sufficiency, self-importance, arrogance, apathy, pride, prejudice, indifference, etc. separate us from God, and therefore, He hides His face from us; He has limited His work in us. Our hearts are sometimes as hard and impenetrable as those present in the time of Christ, because we are ignorant of that which we condemn and oppose.
