Samuel L. Jackson said this was the first character he's played that has absolutely no redeeming qualities.

The great thing about Jackie Brown is it doesn't seem like a cartoon from thriller like (the also mind-blowing) Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. In this movie everything looks real, and the rhythm goes slow-paced like miss Pam Grier (God, I love her), moves with confidence, sensuality, without unnecessary shocks in the middle, moving with this luscious dialogues, purely taken from a hard-boiled novel, like the characters.
You can't understand how or why, but Tarantino and his great actors have dragged you little by little to this dirty, cynical, sad and sordid world of crime even before you notice.
Is a masterpiece. Probably his 90s masterpiece, even some people still don't appreciate it.
This landed Robert Forster an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.
Four Rooms is a great Tarantino gem. Unknown and overlooked, a stacked cast, amazing shots, and intriguing story line i recommend everyone see it more than once...
He directed a fourth of the film, yeah. 🙃

The love story is the best kind: No cheap gimmicks, no easy answers.
Tarantino was a big fan of Pam Grier. In fact, he credits her movies to his film making approach. She was the queen of the Blacksploitation era films in the 70,s. She is the original Foxy Brown.
I'm out the door, but so happy you guys liked this one!!! I talked this one up but wasn't sure how you were liking it at first! To be honest, the first time I saw it, I thought: damn good movie! Not as good as "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs" (his two previous films). But upon rewatches, it became a favorite, the one I go back to the most. Love how you guys relished watching De Niro and Jackson acting together! I LOVE De Niro in this, he's so understated. And totally my fave Jackson performance. This and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood are the two movies he's done with the most "heart". And THIS movie is, as you say, the most un-Tarantinoesque movie of his career....although it STILL is very Quentin! But it's sort of "grown-up Quentin!" Anyways THANK YOU! :D PS: If you do "Once Upon A Time In Hollwood", you MUST familiarize yourself with the Manson Family murders of August of 1969, specifically the first murders of poor Sharon Tate and her friends. Just go wikipedia it, or go read "Helter Skelter" the book, it will tell you everything you need to know. The more you know, the more you'll "get", but even a cursory reading will give you the background you need.
As time passes, I am more convinced that this is my favorite qt movie,but I am a big Elmore Leonard film… I am not sure if any of the movies the other movies were based on other author’s works
My favorite Tarantino movie
Love Pam Grier. She was a legend in exploitation films back in the 70’s
Wonderful performances by Grier, Jackson and Forster. Line delivery across the board was excellent. As was the pacing, the tension build up and the soundtrack. It would have been nice tho if Max had gone after Jackie. One of my favorite movies ❤
Tarantino's finest
This is the only film of Tarantino based on someone else's work. It's based on an Elmore Leonard novel called Rum Punch and the stewardess heroine is white.
Tarantino believed in cinematic universes. This one exists in Elmore Leonard's world (hence no connections to Tarantinoverse characters). The George Clooney/Jennifer Lopez film "Out of Sight" is based on Leonard's work, and the ATF character of Ray Nicollette (Played by Michael Keaton in Jackie Brown) makes a cameo. Tarantino apparently allowed the rival studio to use the character for free, and Keaton reprised the role for the Steven Soderbergh film.
So it would technically exist in the same universe as the "Justified" TV series.

There's another reference to "The Graduate"! When she's sitting alone in the dressing room, looking at herself in the mirror. That's right out of "The Graduate" (Mrs. Robinson against the wall).
Elmore Leonard was a highly acclaimed author and screenwriter known for his dialogue. QT optioned a couple of his titles. Recommend Get Shorty with Travolta, Hackman, and Danny Devito. Or the Leonard story with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez (another Leonard movie from this time period.(out of Sight).
Yeah the Louis character had me cracking up lol. I read the book that this film is based off of, "Rum Punch." Just as funny. Robert DeNiro portrayed the character very accurately actually. He's basically playing someone who had just got out of prison after being in for such a long time. Just very off and unfamiliar with the world around him. I saw an interview where even the cast was like "what the hell" at first until they realized what he was doing as filming went on and saw his genius performance.
Did Pam Grier do good as Jackie
@@ACinemafanatic yes she did. She was white in the book and her last name was different, but she still became that strong character. Portrayed her very well.

Thanks for watching, in my opinion, Quentin Tarantino’s best movie and Samuel L. Jackson’s greatest performance. Also, please watch the 1994 comedy Clerks.
I also think that this is Samuel L. Jackson's best roll. Lewis is chill until he sobers up. Psm Grier's portrayal was nuanced and complicated. This movie is in my Tarantino top three.
You guys should turn up the volume on the film. Even though most of us have seen the movies reacted to, it makes it hard to follow and understand your comments and banter if we don't know what you're commenting about.
You're probably both too young to fully appreciate the bitter beauty of the ending.
