Some of the best beginner cars would be Policars, they run mag and non mag out the box. Scalextric and Carrera are also good. Your right Dave learning how to drive and basic tuning is where you should start 👍. Hobby cars are a big investment and rabbit hole with a lot of accessories needed to refine the cars. You could sink the car cost again into tuning it.
The Ostorero cars have the Policar motor/drivetrain so the performance is good. But they are very expensive cars so better not crash ‘m. Beautiful detailed cars though.
As people graduate from HO scale to larger scales . Many don't know that many brands are not race ready out of the box. Myself included. when I 1st jumped to 1/32 I bought cars that I liked regardless of the brand. Some brands that I 1st bought like Scalextric and Carrera that were pretty much good to go out of the box . When I started buying other brands like NSR, Policar , Revo slot and the like that do need a bit more attention. I had no idea that they needed tuning. Dave maybe there should be a rating system for beginners to know which brands are more suitable for them to get their feet wet with. So they don't get frustrated and quit on the hobby thinking they bought expensive junk that doesn't run like they thought they should. Without channels like yours and others there is no way to know that there is more work involved than just slapping a car on the track and letting it rip.
I would like to share an observation I had at a hobby store, I was standing right next to this guy say at least 10 to 15 years ago. He had saved up 500 dollars and he wanted to buy the original Traxxas RTR Monster Truck with a gas motor. So Mr Helpful One Upper said will that is a really good truck, here comes the hook, DO you plan to do any racing? Well Sir I do not know this is my first truck, I saved up for this. But maybe I would like to race. Mr Helpful will do not buy this truck for 500 dollars you are throwing your money away you will need to buy XY and A and it will cost a minimum of 900 dollars, the guy slinked away and did not purchase anything Don't be Mr Helpful One Upper.
