    Take the door into shade …..after spraying with remover cover with clingfilm and leave overnight as the mild stripper is really weak !
    Hope this helps !
    Keep up the fight !!!!

    • @RossFlack

      The desert heat is evaporating the stripper before it can penetrate the paint to loosen it.

    I used citrus strip on my kitchen cabinets. It worked way way better when I covered in plastic after application and let it sit overnight.

    • @damogranheart5521
      @damogranheart5521 4 дня назад +3

      I was going to recommend the same thing! Apply the paste, cover it so the volital oils don't evaporate, and let that sucker sit overnite. Anything else is an exercise in frustration! It comes in a spray now?! That is just 🤪! How I wish I had known that you were going to do that I could have given you a "heads up!"

      If I'm remembering correctly, a friend in Abilene did the cover in plastic and then left wet towels over it overnight. Her son didn't even use the scraper or wire brush on most of it. She was thinking that the spots that needed a second application were the original paint that had been painted over several times?

    • @Jen.O
      @Jen.O 3 дня назад

      Yes to the plastic cover! Also: a friend puts sawdust over the goop just before she starts the actually stripping process, the sawdust sucks up the paint debri. The final step is sanding or going over the surface with steel wool to get it smooth before painting on the primer.

    • @janetdouglas6396
      @janetdouglas6396 2 дня назад

      Totally agree. Plastic speeds up the progress and stop it from drying out.

    Having lived in an well insulated home in a very sun-exposed, warm climate with zero fans or AC, I highly recommend getting 100% linen curtains to cover the windows in summer. This quick fix easily brought our house temperature down by 15 degrees. The linen still lets the light in but does wonders for blocking the heat.

      @-XtraCredit- 3 дня назад

      When using an environmentally friendly product, doesn't it negate the idea by using a non-friendly plastic to cover it? Might as well use the toxic stuff if you are going to use plastic.

    • @youngflourishing4632
      @youngflourishing4632 3 дня назад

      @@-XtraCredit- I’ve never really thought about that. I was just stating what I’ve seen people do. Do you know of an environmentally friendly cover option? Just in case someone would like to try it.

    • @-XtraCredit-
      @-XtraCredit- 3 дня назад +1

      @@youngflourishing4632 biodegradable camping toilet bags are plastic-like, but not sure if the stripper would eat through them. Would need to test it. They hold waste for roughly 24-36 hours before breaking down. Keeping the item being stripped in the shade & using a misting fan might work to keep the drying to a minimum.

    My granduncle used a mixture of wasching soda, soap, fine sand mixed with water to get old oilpaints of wood. Mix a paste, spread it on the painted wood, let it sit for a few hours and scrape it of with a spatula. Repeat this, if necssary. Finally sand of residue paint with sandpaper.

    Painters usually overlap the paint on exterior glass a quarter inch up the glass panes from the bottom. That means water flows off; if you just make the painted edge exactly where the wood and glass meet then water can get into the joint and cause rot. Hope I explained that OK. Love your work!

    If you have to strip paint again, they make a drill attachment that is a wire brush. You have to be careful not to gouge the wood but you have to do that with a scraper too. It makes getting paint off so much easier.❤❤

You look absolutely gorgeous and the colors on the walls of the done as your back drop is like catching a butterfly drinking from the last few drops as the sun comes up high enough to kiss the last of the drops for itself!! Just beautiful!!
    Female here, a Mom and Grandma, not trying to hit on you, nor am I infatuated or starstruck, lol!!! Most women should be complimented on all that they do and are, even more so, especially with a child or two or more and/or a husband. Their job is 24/7/365 a year. It doesn’t stop just because you are sick, or need a vacation or whatever, you are still on the clock. Not that you are one with a lack of compliments, but I try to hand them out with love when I can!!! Y’all have done such a beautiful job on the dome!!! I'm loving the floor chimes, that is so cool. I would imagine if one wanted to, they could be filled just so to make different tones and become an in tune set of musical chimes!! The finished product is just going to awe inspiring!!! Just like you and the girls and the three guys, the buildings and etc.!!!❤😊

    The dressur. Put a top on it to match the curve of the wall. Gives more space to put things on and prevents anything from falling behind it. It also gives space to hide wires or extra storage. This also goes for head or footboard of beds and any other furniture.

    So I have used the citrus strip and found unless you have perfect conditions you have to lay a super thick layer to get anything out of it. I have used a sand blaster as well it works well they have mediums for striping paint of all different surfaces. There tends to be more sanding involved but I didn't mind cause it seemed to work faster even with extra sanding. Plus with a sandblaster you can use it on a lot of things for refinishing. Plus gentle abrasive can frost you glass if you want too.

  • @oscoto

    Ashley I so respect your work ethic. It’s too late for this time, however, if you use stripper cover it with Saran Wrap just lay a layer on it helps keep the stripper from evaporating so fast. And unfortunately the toxic is stronger.

    No matter if you do your own build, or just a remodel in a standard built home…any day (s), out of the blue, can be frustrating and exasperating…good job for understanding we all need a little extra care at times. I’ve always been impressed how you, as a family, work happily together…but as a mom, I know that it’s not always the case ( all smiles ) when you have 6 different personalities trying to be in step every day….so good job and lots of understanding love sent to each and every one of you. It’s as hard as it is easy on any given day. You all have my utmost respect for all the teaching/learning you are all going thru on a daily basis. I do believe that "Toxic Stripper"would be a great name for a heavy metal band!
    Mother/Daughter trips are great! When things and people got too cranky, I'd yell road trip! We would pile into my pickup and drive from the Twin Cities up to Duluth. Stop at "Toby's "on the way, stop at a rest stop. Hamburgers, then off to the beach to throw leftover buns to the seagulls! Now, with everyone's life so busy, we go to Stillwater(except it's flooding right now) or Bayport.

    Repurposing that beautiful door was a great thing to do. It has tons of character, and will be more beautiful down through time.

    Ashley you work so hard with awesome results. It is so nice to hear you are taking time out occasionally, you deserve it. All the best from Perth Western Australia.

    Hey Ashley, just wanted to let you know, you're not alone. I've been struggling for years now. It's hard for me to keep a steady job and I feel ashamed for it. I always figured that at some point, things will work out. I realise now that this is wrong. I should get help. And I don't need to solve everything all by myself. Thank you for being brave enough and showing a very vulnerable side of yourself. I think you just helped someone else all across the atlantic ocean. Sending you my strength.😊

    It has been so wonderful watching the dome come to life. Bless you for working so hard on that door. I love the color you picked and can’t wait to see everything finished. Thank you for including all the beautiful shots of nature. Someone has a very good eye for filming. Also, the close-ups of you with your eyes shining bright are so beautiful. As a cat person, I really enjoyed the kittens Thank you for sharing your journey. Please know how much we all enjoy watching you. 😊🌸🌺

    Such fun details in the finish of the dome. I can’t wait to see all your amazing ideas for the round house. So much to look forward to. Love the summer haircuts on the doodles.

    Love the way the dome is coming along! For the citrus strip when I’ve seen others use it they’ve laid it on thick then covered it with plastic wrap to trap the moisture and allow the heat to do the work.
