  • YOU ASKED- WE ANSWERED! Why did I quit my job? How do we afford it? What are our plans? Since I left work last week, I've had loads of questions like these all across social media.
I've answered the 6 most common questions and give you some tips to help you do it too, as well as share our plans as our travel adventure begins!
Walking away from a well-paid career was not an easy decision. Time will tell if it was the right one or not but we wanted to take the opportunity we had to change our lives, travel more and enjoy more time together.
As I say on the video, the steps we took might not suit everyone, but I hope there are some tips or ideas which might help anyone wanting to quit work & travel.
This isn't our usual travel video- don't worry, there are plenty more of those to come- but I wanted to take the time to answer all the questions I've been getting about why and how I quit my job to travel.
    ______________________________________________________________
In 2017, our family travelled Europe in a motorhome. When we returned, we decided we liked it so much we wanted to do it again! So we traded in the van for a bigger model, quit (one of) our jobs and in 2018 we're heading off to explore Europe again- proper RV living!
We're starting with Germany and then moving on to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and many more. We hope you can follow our journey!

We love taking drone videos and vlogging about our adventures.

Nobody in recorded history has ever, on his or her Deathbed, declared that they wished they'd spent more time at the office.

Jane has quit last year, and ended being asked to one back to fill in....soon she will be done forever....i worked 10 hrs a day 6 days a week. Then i got liver cancer and homes then lucky to have liver transplant. My life has never been the same . I thought of all the time i spent working for others.....now i live for me...i am now almost 64....i wish i would have done it so many years ago......now we are selling everything, and living on much less and having so much more. .at one time i owned two homes.....done bye...i dont need all the things i have built in my life....i am now i am free..

That's a fantastic attitude Ken- and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your life. I think it's so easy to get stuck inside the hamster wheel- and it's so hard to get off!! Hope Jane is looking forward to retiring again!

Wandering Bird Adventures the more you make the more you spend. It’s what the big biz and leaders want. They do not want you free. They want to own you. I realized this over 20 years ago. I got out of debt, and have been debt free. I do not buy unless I can pay for it. No interest allowed me to build my own home, sell it , buy again with money. Keep going . Everything I have I own

Best way to be- not reliant on anyone. Great advice Ken. Thanks. :)

Great video - life is far to short you (and us) are living our dreams - you won't be on your death bed wishing you had more money in the bank, or a bigger house etc. You will be reminiscing about all the fabulous places and people you met. You'll have a huge grin on your face !!!!! Good on you for living out your dream !!

I officially retired 5 yrs early from a job I enjoyed doing, but unfortunately my partner who is 10 yrs younger than me had to keep the nose to the grindstone basically to keep me in the lifestyle I’m accustomed too 😉… Fast forward we are now both retired and enjoying life in our camper van... Our wish is that we should have done it sooner but hey ho it is what it is. And to be perfectly honest I don’t miss work one little bit, and even though we’re not massively well off when we can at least go off exploring when we feel like it and not worry about timetables… Life is far too short not to enjoy at least a part of it! …

You might live to get the pension, I gave up a £55k job, got a brand new MH and off I went, I got debt free with only phone bill and van insurance to worry about, I rented and just saved ups very hard, I live on a budget, im very happy and very content...I can work one month driving a truck which is enough to last me a the rest of the year, I have a small amount of savings which I leave in the ISA...I have and but what I need and not what I want...Life is way too short to wait...

Genuinely what a great video. As an "oldie" I wish you every success in your adventures and can only say as none of us know what lies ahead of us we should all do the things we want to do while we can. OK some stuff may not work out as planned but better to try than get old and wish you had done stuff earlier in your life while you could. Look forward to future videos on your travels.

Marvellous! Jobs are such an out dated concept..! We actually 'work' on the road but it's hardly a job and whilst we both loved our jobs before we quit, we've opened up a tonne of new doors and our lives now are completely unrecognisable. We were nowhere near as organised as you mind! We just sold up and left!

Been looking through your old videos. It's interesting that you managed to do this and take a year off and leave your job. Do you work as of yet or still managed to be off? I am trying to be a minimalist but my wife finds it tricky. I would like to try and use school holidays more as even though I am off my wife is at work so can't use the time. I think it would be amazing to use the whole six weeks to be away. Our mortgage is our limitation but again I would like to move somewhere a bit smaller but not managed that yet.

Much too Young to retire, why not try the sabbatical for your adventures, then if you want to carry on then you would have a better idea for your life ahead ? I was made redundant at 45 as a highly qualified Electrcal Engineer, good not get another equivalent position, but redundancy package paid off the mortgage and when I reached 50 could draw on my private works pension, then I retired and started the adventures with Motorhoming. Is it too late to train as a pilot ?
