    Somebody once said that when you buy a PRS Guitar you are not buying a musical instrument. You are opening up a subscription. I have to agree. After buying an S2 recently I was so amazed by the whole thing I then bought 3 others. Amazing stuff.

    I am able and fortunate enough to have a perfect SUHR Buckeye burl modern with Limba back, roasted AAA Birdseye maple neck and Cocobolo board, a GIBSON Standard Historic 1959 Les Paul, a TAYLOR K24-CE Koa acoustic with a AAA top and a work horse WARMOUTH I made kind of like a 3-tone Stevie strat with custom Duncan (Texas flood style) pickups and all the good stuff but I do not feel like I have assembled my dream quiver yet until I have a PRS Private stock. It just may be the one I seek known as The Axecaliber. Forged from the good folks at Wonkaville/PRS here to bring peace and good will to all men.

  • @jasong546
    @jasong546 5 лет назад +5

    There’s nothing wrong with that! If you can do it, awesome. The nice thing to me is that the core, and even the other ranges are always so great looking and sounding, that it’s possible to have a stunner without spending private stock money. My DGT was a non 10 top, in the usual old vintage sunburst, and I don’t know how it was graded because it looked like the best flame maple top they could have used. Just save your pennies for awhile, and then check for your favorite model used, and you can get a good deal.

    Does anybody worry about the tone that these wood combinations could deliver? Seems to me that all the focus is on appearance. For a guitar that is likely to cost 10 grand or more, I'd like someone to tell me what the expected tone from a combination of a black limba body and a roasted maple neck would be. Oh well, whoever buys a museum piece like this is probably not going to play it much anyway.

      SriniP Regardless of the “tonewood”, PRS guitars have always had a wonderfully clear tone that actually stands up to their price point.

      @@raultrujillo7750 Don't get me wrong, I love PRS for many things. But at that price point, I would have hoped that tone would be at least one of the considerations. That said, the PRS tone is not my favorite, with the exception of the S2 Mira semi-hollow. My opinion is that they lack a certain fatness. Then again, opinions are like....well...you know the rest!

      If you want tone get a Gibson. If you want looks get a PRS. 🤣🤣🤣

      They do spend quite a bit of time trying to match up the tone woods once you select the pieces. But you do speak the truth and the first thing anyone building a private stock usually goes for is the prettiest most striking piece of wood they can find. Its the team at PRS's job to help guide and sculpt your choices if they feel the woods used for the body, top, and neck are not matching up properly.
      One of the ones I put together was gorgeous...but they informed me it would most likely sound extremely dead and thin with the combos I had chosen. Thanks a bunch for the comment and thank you sincerely for watching!

      @@CasinoGuitars Great comment, and thanks for responding! Personally, if I were to get them to build me a guitar, I'd specify, in order of importance, tone and feel, and THEN the look. I wouldn't even care if they had to pick the plainest piece of wood, as long as its a perfectly dried and cured piece and sounds incredibly when you tap it.
      Quite honestly, for what I play, I can't think of a better combination than the hollowbody spruce top - nice mahogany back and neck, spruce top and rosewood board. Nothing fancy, but that soft, fat tone is perfect for jazz and and blues. I might go redwood top instead, but I already have that combo, and let me tell you - that is a magic combo of woods!
      Thanks again for the response!
