Very detailed explanation. It helped me a lot for exchanging my rear door lock mechanism. At the rear door you don't have to remove the window lifter. During reassemly I was able to put the door handle backplate and the locking mechanism in place and connect them afterwards. So if you have small hands and you know exactly, how both parts are connected, you should be able to disconnect them before removal. So you should be able to exchange the locking mechanism without removing the door handle.

When you put the backing plate back into the door (the thing your door handle insert into) it is very loose and I don't understand how to get it back to a fixed position. Any ideas?
