Fil, released at the time of the first moon landing. David was a prolific songwriter with bars scattered liberally throughout his catalogue. A great insight into David is an interview with the head of MTV. he questioned why MTV did not include black artists on their broadcasts....Intelligent infused artistry. The first artist I really got into.
#QcumberSquad #DavidBowie - Fil, I'm off back to the study.

In a 2003 interview, Bowie explained what first inspired the track.
“In England, it was always presumed that it was written about the space landing because it kind of came to prominence around the same time. But it actually wasn’t,” Bowie said. “It was written because of going to see the film ‘2001 [A Space Odyssey]’, which I found amazing. I was out of my gourd anyway, I was very stoned when I went to see it, several times, and it was really a revelation to me. It got the song flowing.
“It was picked up by the British television and used as the background music for the landing itself. I’m sure they really weren’t listening to the lyric at all. It wasn’t a pleasant thing to juxtapose against a moon landing. Of course, I was overjoyed that they did. Obviously, some BBC official said, ‘Oh, right then, that space song, Major Tom, blah blah blah, that’ll be great.’ ‘Um, but he gets stranded in space, sir.’ Nobody had the heart to tell the producer that.”

This was his first really big song. He hadn't gotten into drugs yet. This was written after he saw 2001: A Space Odyssey...which if you haven't seen it, you should.

Fame. Many great songwriters talked about several topics in their lyrics. David bowie, especially in his era of his career, is famously known for his struggle and lyrics about fame, instant fame and the issues that come from it

My favorite from Bowie. My Aunt introduced me to so much great music. This was the first song she showed me. Makes it super nostalgic to me ❤

So, David Jones (Bowie) wrote this song in 1967, but couldn't find a label to produce it. After moonlanding it works.

Thanks, Fable.. such a genius was David... (interesting take on drug addiction.. never heard that at the time, but several years later, David recorded a song called "Ashes to Ashes".. that says... "ashes to ashes.. funk to funky.. we know Major Tom's a junkie... just, wow!.. )

You need to check out one of the greatest of ALL time, Stevie Ray Vaughan. He got his first break playing for Bowie, and was thought of and given accolades by Clapton, BB King, Albert King, Freddy king, Jimmy Page etc. as the best there ever was!
You need to start with his version of "Texas Flood love at El Mocambo" You are not ready!!!!!

Mate. Try reviewing the whole post punk/new wave thing. It's a good fit for your channel. I get drunk once a week and immerse myself in my music. Being born in 1964, I'm literally the oldest 'Gen X'. I feel that you share some EI (emotional intelligence) vibes with me. The Zimmer Prague concert in 2016 is my holy temple. But on ordinary days, I settle for post punk/new wave, when I'm just looking for a good time. Right. I guess you want examples. Preferably, I'd give you a story and build it up to the ultimate iteration. But clearly, I have to hit you with my best shot....no pressure then...OK. There's a story behind this but hat's irrelevant right now. This is a classic example of post punk/new wave, with a hint of the 'Shoegaze' genre, which makes them pioneers of this age, along with 'The Chameleons'. Heard of 'Adorable'? Nah. I thought not...:).
