Whenever I watch speedruns of Spyro, I can't help but imagine all of the NPCs trying to say their dialogue, but Spyro just bolts past them like- "THERE'SNOTIME!!!"
Well, Speedrunners want to pass through all cutscenes and dialgoue to get the best time. It's like time attack but for gamers outside of this game compared to Spyro doing time attacks in the game.
I always thought I was good at Spyro…. Then I watched this 😭 Damn this is impressive! Also thanks for replying to the comment that asks about the reason for 2, 3 then 1, I’d been wondering myself! Those speedways tho….. 😵
@@LasagaMan he could, but in spyro 3 it looks like he only has a way to go back to Avalar and thus the Dragon Shores portal after he beats the sorceress.
There is something I wish someone explains me about Hurricos (Spyro 2). See, at 2:13:39? There are four places where we can place a lighting orb. I tought placing them would give a green orb. But he completed 100% without doing it. I remember how hard it was, while playing normally, to reach to it, so I cannot imagine myself carrying 4 lighting orb to this point (because when your die, all the orbs come back to their initial place). So, my question is : what happens if the player brings 4 lighting orb here?
I've never tried bringing lightning orbs here, and it definitely doesn't give you a green orb. I'll have to try that out if it actually accepts the orbs into the slots. At 2:12:55, I fly onto the mountain and kill the 10 enemies while they are stored out of bounds, so if that's the challenge you remember but aren't seeing, that's why. :)
How is it that you sometimes do a normal glide instead of a superfly after you get level storage? For example, at 1:35:34, you still clearly have level storage, since you're supercharging, but you don't superfly. Oh, another thing I was wondering, I could hear you using the Sparx pointer to look for gems you missed, but how did you know where Sparx was pointing when he was invisible?
Great questions, Tryannigon64! For the first one, there are different things in each of the 3 games that temporarily disables superflight (typically for the rest of the level or until a death). In Spyro 1, simply rescuing a dragon disables flight. In Spyro 2, talking to an NPC or watching certain cutscenes disables flight. In Spyro 3, finding dragon eggs and talking to NPCs is all fair game, but flight gets disabled when going into a side area's portal. Level storage has a very different effect in each game, so it was quite a challenge to get it all routed out. A good example of me needing to talk to NPCs but later getting flight back through a death abuse is in Idol Springs after part 2 of the 3 part challenge - 2:20:35 As for the 2nd question, it was so much easier for me because this run was on PS4. The audio output was very complicated and diverse. It very likely came through the stream as mono, but it was very much stereo when I played it. I essentially had to use sonar to figure out where he was pointing. If I was facing forward and I heard it more in my right ear when pressing his button, I would know it's somewhere to my right. If I spin the camera a bit towards that way and try again and it sounds more centered, it's definitely forward. I had to be careful not to hear a centered sound first, as it could be ahead or behind, so I usually did 2 presses minimum and narrowed it down based on the combination of the two. I have a very good headset for my PS4 streaming setup. Let me know if you've got any more questions about this run, I enjoy giving more detail about how things went down.
@@Jumpyluff More questions? I can do that. Is it known why level storage works, on a technical level? Or is it just something people stumbled into and started using because it was useful and consistent? I noticed that you don't end any of the speedways (well, none that I've seen so far, at least; I haven't watched the whole video through yet, still at Cloud Spires) under a ceiling to cut off the flying into the sky animation. Was that avoided for a reason, or did all possible routes that end under a ceiling just happen to not save enough time to be worth it? There was a period of nothing happening between Spyro 2 and Spyro 3. Did that do something to help the speedrun, like bringing level storage from game to game, or did you just need to take a break because you had been playing for 2.5 hours straight? Spyro 2 is the only way to get level storage active in this way, so Spyro 2 is first. I do Spyro 3 next because it typically has a larger range of how well or how poorly I play it in comparison to Spyro 1, and I end on Spyro 1 because I get rid of level storage at some point to finish up things I couldn't do otherwise. You can 117% Spyro 3 with level storage but you can not finish 120% Spyro 1 with level storage the whole way through.
I would like to see a speedrun that is 337%, AND glitchless. Bonus points if fast travel and new game plus isn't used. Super bonus points if done blind, and they still get a good time, as speedruns rely heavily on the meta!

I entered a speedway while loading the Gulp fight, loaded both levels at once, but maintained the speedway physics while progressing with the fight. The action happens at 56:20
I start with Spyro 2 to get Level Storage about an hour in. I am able to keep that state into the other 2 games, but I must backtrack to Spyro 1 without level storage at some point to clear out things you can't clear out, like enemies that react only to charges and not flames or supercharges. If I didn't start with Spyro 2, I would have to do Spyro 1 and/or 3 without it, and if I did 2-1-3, I would have to backtrack to 1 later. This is the only order I can do it in to not go back and forth between the games, or break them up.
I have never done post-run commentary, though I have a draft for one special run from a few years ago that I never got around to recording. As for talking while playing, I do that every time on my twitch channel. I believe I uploaded the local recording of this run to RUclips because of some frame drops somewhere, so I'd prefer a higher quality gameplay viewing experience over the alternative.
RNG isn't a big problem in long runs like this, so I'd guess only a couple minutes of variance up or down. Tons of time can be saved with better routing/gameplay though.
I don't usually watch these speedruns so I was very confused and I still am why don't you just 100% each game in the order u r doing them now without going back to certain levels later on in the run Sorry if this is a stupid question but as I said I am new to watching these speedruns
I can't speak for the uploader but I personally would try the harder sections first so, if I screw them up, I could reset with little to no loss for time. For example, I absolutely suck at the boxing mini game in part 3 so I would aim to do that first. Then if I fail too much on that I''d reset immediately with little time wasted. If I finish it well I'd move on to the next difficult section, say for example the third speedway in the second game. If I failed I'd reset, and if I win I continue to the next difficult section. And so on and so forth. Again, this is just my perspective and probably entirely wrong compared to the speedrunner's methods, but the bottom line is there's definitely a reason behind it which I too am curious about.
Subtitles are on, but I skip the cutscenes, sorry! If you'd like to see all cutscenes and text, I'm sure there are plenty of videos like that on the internet, but not on speedruns.
Why isn't there a category called "337% glitchless"? All this exploiting of glitches makes the whole thing so boring to watch... Speedruns of other games have such a glitchless category as well...
I can definitely see 337% No LS being added in the future. My old sub 7 hour run did not use these major glitches. In this case, the reason why that isn't a thing yet is because the category isn't popular at all. I'm one of 2 people who has even ran this category in the first place. I used this route because it is faster.
