- At last my first video with my new recording setup! A cover of the George Benson song "Lady Love Me", a track on which Jeff Porcaro played. It's a right Hi Hat burner! I am playing along to a backing track here (which originally had no drums) so ALL the drums you can hear are mine.
Enjoy!

Simple isn't easy.....You have a BEAST onehanded 16 note hihat control. And honestly, this is as close to Jeff as possible. Perhaps the best JP covers I've heard. Only Yttergren reaches these details - but he's +44 - and you're 20! Killer groove. Respect. I totally dig your riffs/chops!
Im late to the party but have always love the drums on this track and searching you tube tonight for examples. Great work I love the last minute of this track
Holy shit, this is excellent. Perfectly in the pocket, & that Porcaro right hand...amazing.
F****** awesome, Rob! So proud to see/hear a true Porcaro groover in 2012 - in the form of a young drummer of your age and caliber. Respect! JP4ever ;)
Jeff is giving you a virtual hug while watching this...AMAZING dude! New subscriber for sure!
Anyone who has the skills to be a musician in whatever discipline has my vote any day. Well played Rob
I'm not a musician. Technically how difficult is this? To me me it's like trying to split an atom. I love the skill people have. Well done
Thank you! Developing that right hand speed takes a lot of time and practice. There’s also techniques that I use, such as playing on a pillow (which has more resistance and less bounce) to build up strength. How you hold the stick make a difference too. Then I worked on the dynamics after that, so that all the notes didn’t have the same volume. Appreciate you watching!
@@TheRhythmNGroove Absolutely enjoyed it.
That's some great stamina with the 16th one handed play, love this tune and Jeff's playing my hands cramp up half way when playing along to this song, but one day i will get there! great job.
Much appreciated thank you! If it’s of any use to you, one of the ways I trained my wrist was to play along to a song (like this one) on a pillow. Because there’s less rebound and bounce on a pillow, I found that after time when I went back to the hi hat (which has loads of bounce and rebound by comparison to the pillow) I’d built up a lot of stamina with the right wrist and hand. Made playing the track a lot easier!
@@TheRhythmNGroove great tip 👍 thank you
Can't get enough of this video Rob. What a groove!
I kept listening to it over and over Rob, what a groove my man!!!! Lino
Awesome very good stuff
Love this video
Mannnnnn, this is awesome! Been loving this song since I was a little girl, but just recently I paid attention to the drums and you've got me hooked on watching this video of you. One day I'm going to start drum lessons JUST to play this song... GREAT JOB, ROB
My favorite George Benson song! I never actually noticed the drums on it before. They're quite elaborate! That was awesome! Props to you man!
Great high-tempo right-hand 16beat like Jeff Porcaro !!! Amazing.
I've only in the last year learned to love this song. Can't wait to hear this . Without sound on the PC, all I can do it watch your moves, and I say you are one COOL cat!
Good work my friend.
This is my all-time favourite song and it's nice to hear an alternative version. Your drumming is superb!
Absolutely cracking, great job!
That was really, really, really good!!!
Great job!!!
This cover is spot on. Love the sound of that kit. Love the C1000 microphone as well. Rock on.
Great job.... as always!
8 years late, but Great job! Those one handed 16ths are very difficult to play for extended periods at that tempo.
awesome from japan!
your drums sounds like porcaro!
Temonnnn
good job
Jeff's groove made this track. Nice job man.
Thanks man, much appreciated!
To be honest i was a little sceptical about your other JP-covers cause in my opinion they always sounded a little too stiff... But this one? Damned man, you cracked it up... Fuckin awesome, you're the man!!! 5* RESPECT!! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!
those 2002 sound amazing
Thank you Lino, my friend! Oh how much I'd love to put some grooves on a record or two!
True hihat burner indeed)) nice job though and a pretty set of 2002's :) well done
I very much agree with you actually. I've changed a lot since then I think, plus I have my new recording setup. That could be two of the reasons why I hope I sound a bit better. As for this video, thank you so much. THAT is exactly the kind of comment that I dig. I'm so happy you liked it. Thanks alot for the comments man (both negetive and positive). Much appreciated! :-D
Well done Rob, and "funny" as I was listening that song the whole week. Where can I find the playback of that song ? Thanks.
tens um grande talento, suas viradas sao perfeitas, parabens muito bom, viamao ,rs, brasil
Hey Rob - that was a job well done! I agree with "totalcontrast" below, Jeff Porcaro made this track... just like he did with Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting" (in my opinion). By the way, you should take a swing at "I Keep Forgetting". I'm sure you can pull it off!All the best!
This is spot on! Very well done rendition of Jeffs groove! I was wondering which technique you use to play the hihat part? Seems like you really throw the stick down and get 4 strokes out of one move. Is this also how Jeff did it? Thanks for posting anyway and keep up the good work!
Aww Sune! Thank you so much buddy! That means alot. There's plenty more to come! :-D
I love this Thumper ;-) howz tricks kid?
