Mora SRT Tactical Knife? Yup, Police and Military Already Using It - Shot Show 2015

  • I swung by the Mora Knives booth at Shot Show 2015 to check things out. I was pretty surprised to see a 'tactical' knife from Mora. It's based off one of their other knives but believe it or not, it's already in use by some military and law enforcement agencies. Check out Bjorn as he shares about this and one other Mora knife.

    How is it "tactical" I read. Well the basic shape of these are quite similar to the Finnish Marttiini knives. Puukko knives were used on Soviets pretty effectively. Tactical knives don't have to "look" tactical. It's how they can be used that counts. JMO.

    Många här verkar glömma att Mora är en svensk kniv för svenska förhållanden. Mora har också använts av den svenska militären de senaste hundra åren. Därför "Military Grade"
    Many here seem to forget that Mora is a Swedish knife for Swedish conditions. Mora has also been used by the Swedish military, the last hundred years. Therefore, "Military Grade"

    I always pack my Mora Clipper + Leatherman wave while camping/hiking. It's good for what I use it for, which is cutting cordage, making feather sticks, striking a firesteel and batoning wood while feeling firm and safe in a gloved hand. I don't need to spend a few hundred quid on a Bear Grylls survival knife, Mora does me.

    Of course it has tactical applications. It's sharp and pointy and good for piercing, stabbing, and slashing. The one thing interesting about this video was finding out the authentic way of saying the company name in Swedish which is "morack-neev"

      Roger Flatley Authentic maybe, just like saying "aint" is authentic english language.
      Try more like "more-a-knee-v"
      or even better say "Amora" like a name, using the "a" as an english word.
      If that doesnt sound authentic, you are at least going to fool almost anyone. :-)

      Prepared Survivalist
      In proper Swedish Morakniv is "moo-rah-kah-neev." The town of Mora is pronounced with a "moo" sound, like a cow moo sound. Mora = moo-rah. Knife (kniv) is kah-neev.

    Suffice to say that it's possible that soldiers today may not rely on their knives or use them to the same extent or with the same frequency as soldiers of previous generations.
    And for about a decade now, american soldiers have purchased their own equipment
    because it was not issued to them due to shortages or it was something not in their TOE, but based on operational experience they felt they needed certain items to complete a task.
    For example, the use of axes or tomahawks as breaching tools is a new concept that came out of battlefield experiences. Just as the use of entrenching tools (or shovels) as weapons to knock out sentries in WW2 was born on the field.

      unlimitedgamertag There are a lot of combinations of weapons and people that I would much rather go against than a farmer with a mora.
      Farmer knows his tools and no weapon is going to make anyone deadly, and any weapon is deadly if you can use it.
      A weapon is just a tool for killing. No dead man has ever complained about having been killed with a wrong kind of tool.

    I just don't trust mora anymore. my three mora knives can be used only once out in field and after I have to remove rolls, nicks and ReSharpen the edge. rarely does it come back undamaged after simple wood work...quite disappointing. this is why I bought a kabar and a 01 tool steel custom knife to use and depend on. mora is only good if you know how to restore damaged edges using sharpening stones or diamonds.

      should only need honing with a strop or rod unless really heavy use or long duration. Sharpening for when actually damaged, toothy, chipped. IMHO, unless quality changed suddenly

  • @whiskeyriver4322
    @whiskeyriver4322 9 лет назад +13

    It's all about sales, marketing, and profits, so I can't really blame a company for doing what it can to grow. I certainly wouldn't buy one though, because I know it's a gimmick; and, being a twenty-four year, retired soldier, I can't imagine any military branch requisitioning these into their supply system. I've had a Mora "bushcraft black" for about two years now, and I love it; but it's absolutely NOT a military grade knife, if you consider combat operations and it's environmental stresses. Just because a guy in uniform happens to have this knife in his rucksack or kit, people like to jump at the "tactical" moniker. And, that combo edge is crap. If you want a good knife, buy a Mora, they're good knives; but know it's limitations, and don't buy it because some marketing expert portrays it as something it is not.

    • @MasterK9Trainer
      @MasterK9Trainer 8 лет назад

      I agree with you on the point that many people tend to think (But their not really thinking at all) that if the "blank" uses it then it must be good. The same thing tends to happen with martial arts. So many claim to have trained Green Berets, Marines, etc. They probably were asked to teach one unit, but they make it sound like they trained the entire Army.
      Dog trainers do the same thing.... exaggerate and some outright lie. And consequently dog fads are born out of the same logic. That's why breeds tend to experience poor quality dogs or abandoned dogs until the popularity wears off. I had Malinois myself, but I know their behavior and capabilities.
      There are many knives for many different tasks.

    • @whiskeyriver4322
      @whiskeyriver4322 7 лет назад +1

      That's a good question. I've been retired from the Army for nearly sixteen years; but I'll give you my take on the matter. First identify what "military grade" means to you; then identify your personal requirements for a blade you intend to carry; in other words, what are you going to use it for. Unless times have changed, the army does not issue knives of this nature (at least not during my time in uniform). They issued bayonets to fix to your rifle, that is all; unless you hold a particular MOS that requires a specialized tool, like a communications specialist that may need a folding jack knife or pliers for working with wire, or a pilot who requires cutting tools in his flight crew survival vest. A reality that many refuse to accept, is that a military grade knife, holds the primary mission of killing a human being; in the most stressful, foul, ugly, and disgusting environment you could ever imagine. Using that knife for utility as a cutting or prying tool is secondary. The Kabar is steeped in history; but I had broken no less than eight of them, just during the routine stresses of training; luckily, back then they were cheap enough to replace every time. Then I found another historical company that unfortunately went out of business some years ago; but my favorite "fighting knife" became the Ek Commando knife; indestructible, allowed a razor-sharp edge, and with diligence, you could learn to throw it quite well (one of the Kabar's best attributes), but could cost up to $200 back in the early 90's. Today, ESEE makes some tough bastards, but they're pretty heavy to add to an already enormous amount of weight an Infantryman has to carry; but they should definitely be added to military aircraft survival kits. I could go one for hours on dozens of choices; but this is far enough if you get the point I'm trying to get across. If you can get the opinions of current or recently separated soldiers or Marines that are combat arms specialists, you'll have an even better perspective of what a "Military Grade" knife is, and the best choices currently out there now. Peace

      Whiskey River yes the carbon models will rust eventually and the stainless models dont hold their edge like the carbon ones. However the heavy duty models can really take some abuse

    • @whiskeyriver4322
      @whiskeyriver4322 7 лет назад

      What??? Ahhhhh........actually, stainless blades hold their edge a lot longer than carbon blades do; but stainless is a bit more difficult to strop, hone, or reprofile in the field than carbon.... get your facts straight before you comment.

      Or do you need to open you ammo crates with for it to be called tactical.
