Yeah, this game was really fun. I remember playing it with my close buddy back in the day and we would play this game differently in different so called 'modes', where in one 'mode' we would try to kill each other and the last one standing wins and another 'mode' where we would help each other and work together in co-op to try to defeat all the enemies and get as far as possible.
It's crazy to see how short some of these games are...cause as a kid I'd play them for hours on end...or they'd be so damn hard that I could never get as far as I wanted.
That's what I love about Nintendo's early NES games. They didn't need bloated out to stretch to some arbitrary amount of playtime. There's a lot of depth packed into those mechanics!
Whole game design i luv it . night time with sparkling stars , cloudy, lightning, thunder , in bottom seas with big fish and background sounds is great its relaxing .❤️
Aw yes, there was the "Balloon Trip" mode. The exciting and breathtaking mode where you had one single life to reach as far as possible, and you could take a breath by popping those bubbles haha
This game was released in North America in September 1984, in Japan on October 3, 1984, and in Europe in 1987 for Arcades. It was also released for the Famicom/NES in Japan on January 22, 1985, in North America on June 18, 1986, and in Europe on March 12, 1987. It was also for Computers in Japan.
Balloon Fight is a game I appreciated more later on when I rediscovered it in high school (thanks to a new friend's seemingly bottomless collection of carts), but that it inspired it's interpretation in the CRIMINALLY underrated Nintendo Land is probably the best thing about it. Seriously, Nintendo Land might just be my choice for the greatest console pack in of all time.
I always felt like there was some evilness into popping the bubbles containing the last breath from your opponents, almost like you are negating them the chance to reach paradise after death. Feeding them to the fishes feels bad as well.
In Tetris DS, there’s a game mode(i don’t remember the name) where you have to open the balloon cage by touching the Tetriminos with you stylus to make them disappear. And there was that music. This is where i discovered Balloon Fight. At first, i didn’t know where i came from, but then i saw a video of Balloon Fight and i said to myself « i know that music, it came from Tetris DS ! » There was other BF sounds i recognized : when you kill your enemy, when you clear the stage and when you finish the special stage(i don’t know if i’m right about that designation). How a game can bring back good memories although we never played it ?
For the records, that game was produced by Gunpei Yokoi (the father of the Game Boy) and programmed by Satoru Iwata (former CEO of Nintendo). The code for the game physics of Balloon Fight was copy-pasted to the water levels of Super Mario Bros, released soon after. The character controls exactly the same as Mario under water. Sadly, both Yokoi and Iwata passed away, but they are not forgotten!
Balloon Fight ain't bad at all, but I think I like that Hello Kitty World game with balloons more (and GB Balloon Kid as well). Guess balloons are what you need to make your game fun and engaging!
I remember watching my elder brother playing this game when I was a kid and I used to alternately visualise the enemies as men/boys wearing caps and then envision then as some evil goblins with dark brown faces and long noses.
Similar to other early Nintendo titles, the exact date of the console release is difficult to pinpoint. It was first scheduled for June of 1986, was later changed to August of 1986, but very likely came out in September.
@@NintendoComplete How about the overlooked Game Gear version of Ristar? I think you should play through that after the Genesis version. Whaddya say, Alex?

Man, you know a guy is an absolute genious when he makes an arcade port on a system like the nes run at a much better frame rate than the actual arcade version itself. RIP Iwata-san, you were just way too good for this awful world.
Iwata-san used a trick to make the character moving more fluidly : he determined the character position as fractions of pixels even if that couldn't be displayed on screen. When programming Super Mario Bros, Nakago-san asked how he did it and Iwata will give him his secret. Without it, Mario moves would probably never have been as precise. It massively contributed to make the game the success it became.
Wait a second... I can't find a single instance on RUclips of anyone playing this game to completion. Only about as far as I got back in the day. Has anyone ever beaten this game?
i have a question , i really love this game since i was a kid, now days thanks to the emulators i can play this games again, normal way and with a hack, well as i never reach the end of ths game and allways was killed before reach lvl 12, i use the infinite lifes, and when i reach lvl 50, i thought that how many lvls this game have, and if i could reach 1000000 pts, well the poits after i reach 9999550, i cant reach more than that, even when i reach that amount 4 or 5 times more, maybe in those days u can gran the million, and about the lvls when i reach lvl 100 i thought i was close to the end, but no, i continue play as i sayd i was looking for the end of the game so i continue; then the game start by letter and numbers, like A0-A9, and i continue the game, the maxmum lvl i count is lvl P9, after that i think is because the Q its similar to an O there was or lvl Q or lvl 0 or O, i continue, then i see lvl 01, so i end it, cause i saw it was like mario bros, a never ending game, my question is, any of you guys see the end of this game or indeed its a never ending game?
Like so many other games Nintendo is famous for, Balloon Fight is amazing in both how simple and how addictive it is.

Probably my favorite of Nintendo's early "black box" titles, and the one that has held up the best for me.

what's blackbox game mean

The music when you win sounds like the Ghostbusters theme doesn't it?
I played this in front of my dad in the late 80’s in Hong Kong. I miss him so much.
The first time I played Balloon Fight was on the e-Reader on Game Boy Advance while I was in middle school. I'll admit, it is a really fun NES game.
It's just as fun as I remember it being.
I agree as much
I really wish they brought this game back

Thanks! Yeah, I think the SB series has introduced a lot of people to Nintendo's older games :) I love it that they still embrace their beginnings.

I saw the “goblins” but more fox people.
I wonder if this game used the PCM channel for the balloon pop sound? I know a lot of games use it for percussion sounds.
