I'm glad you mentioned the stalling problem, I was beginning to think that I have a rare issue. I haven't taken mine to the dealer, since it is several hours away. One thing that invariably causes mine to stall is engine braking down a steep grade culminating in a required stop. Changing my habit (to disengaging the clutch and using both brakes) in that situation has eliminated most of the problem.
I have heard that the Race Dynamics FuelX eliminates the stalling issue in the Himalayan. I have already received mine for my 390 Duke but haven't had the time to install it. Perhaps that is something worth looking at. It plugs into the lambda sensor lead and inserts its own signal intermittently to enrich the air-fuel mixture.
I removed the charcoal cannister and let the tank free breathe. Yep, im a greenie rebel. No more stalling, and bit of adjustment of the tps and it ticks over at just over 1050 rpm right from cold.
Greetings from a fellow Himalayan owner in the UK. I have a 2018 model and had a major engine and gearbox rebuild at around 25,000 (UK) miles after the bike kept dropping out of top gear at above 50 mph. The bike is now fully recovered and going strong. Fully agree about it being fun. I have 5 other road bikes and a trials bike but will ride the Himalayan as first choice most times.
Dang, that's something about your gearbox. Have heard a few stories like that. My Himalayan is my favorite bike, period. I've 4 bike, all fun to ride, the Himalayan is the one I enjoy the most. Wahoo!
@@davidjohnbonnett I spoke to 2 RE main dealers about my issues. They hadn't experienced it with any other bike. I'm the second owner of mine and I think that the first owner used it to commute to work on and basically ran it in fifth gear all the time. Nothing was broken, just worn.
Have you experienced any engine ticking or clicking issue ? Currently my bike mileage is about 40,000km a lot problem appear like engine have ticking and clicking noise when engine heat up.
Have an all black 2021 that I ride down here in the Andes. I have to agree, although the bike is a little slow, it really pulls the 13,000 ft hills down here without a second thought. The exhaust really opens up and sounds great on some of the 45 degree inclined roads around here. I have to agree that it is the most fun bike I've had and one of the nicest looking. My only complaint is the soft uncomfortable seat. I chose the black because I thought the red was a little out of balance, but with the Rush 2112 red star, the bike looks incredible. I certainly would have gone for the Rush 2112 paint theme for my Himmy, gotta love it!
I'd love to see pictures of your bike in the Andes! If possible, please post them with info on our Forgotten Motorcycles Facebook page. Bet it's beautiful down your way. Wahoo!
@@forgottenmotorcycles It is pretty spectacular down here. We have a small farm at the foot of a 13,000ft mountain. We are pretty rural, and have plenty of dirt roads that can get pretty muddy so there are a lot of dirt bikes. We use our motorcycle for everything around the farm including transporting sacks of grain for the chickens, so we went with the mule as they call the Himalayan in India. Trunk and panniers fully loaded with groceries, two riders in the Andes mountains, muddy roads and no problems, plenty of power extremely stable, it’s a bike that is fun, a true utilitarian workhorse that is well designed, economical, easy to admire and difficult not to fall in love with. I like to say the Himalayan feels right at home in the Andes. I met a retired BBC guy and his wife who were looking at my bike, he grew up in Enfield England and had never seen a Himalayan before. I thought it was cool to meet a Brit down here who was reminiscing over the Royal Enfield logo. The Himmy always draws attention and thumbs up and as you can imagine, they are loved in the Andes. Used ones typically have high mileage and are set up for touring and adventure. I do have two wishes, an upgraded cam when the warranty runs out and a touring seat for better comfort.
I work from home (with weekend work too) so, I have not had too many opportunities to go ride. Still I've gotten 80 miles on my bike doing in town trips. Will take it out this weekend for a ride to a town about 25 miles NW of me, to my son's home. I'll get some gravel road time and play in the dirt on his property. Thanks for the videos Fuzzy Biker!
Prioritize. What I do is make a list of everything I must do in a day...then I write Motorcycle Riding right on the top. Works well...lol! Ever get down this way let's go ride. Wahoo!
I’m with you here that I’ve also owned several other bikes all of which cost more than my Himmy but there is just something about this bike that makes it so enjoyable to ride.
FYI Your original videos featuring the Seattle to Alaska by Himalayan had a great effect on my decision to buy the bike. Your story telling & videography skills are excellent. Thank you!
Thanks Bud.From my research nothing beats the standard air filter for efficiency. K&N will breathe better but there's far more silica in the oil :(. If you want it to breathe better try that opened up air intake (and avoid deep water crossings).
My Himmy is on gravel all the time so the silica/oil thing is very important. Paper filters do work well and are cheap. I may make an open cover for the air filter myself. PS I don't even like shallow water crossings. Wahoo!
If your Himalayan is NOT Euro 5 compliant (i.e. it still has an air intake sensor), Hitchcock's says that a Booster Plug can be installed - which will enrich the mixture on acceleration.
Yes, my Himalayan will take the booster plug. Dealer is going to work on this issue next week. Last time they worked on it they took care of about 80% of the problem. Hoping they can get it 100% cured. If not, I may do that booster plug. Love this bike. Wahoo!
Great vid mate! I’ve not long had my Himi and it is a fun bike to ride, I take it on the gravel almost every time I ride it. Great detail in the vid really informative, cheers 😎
I agree that the Himalayan is fun to ride. Especially off the pavement on dirt and gravel. That's where it sings. It's fine on pavement too. I'm having more fun riding it than I'm entitled to have. My 2022 always starts and idles fine. The only time it stalls is a result of operator error. Royal Enfield must have done something to cure that ill. My compass is sketchy. Sometimes it works and other times I'm just heading for the Atlantic Ocean. And I don't use the Tripper. It has a nice big time display. I just need to figure out how to set it.... I've made many of the same mods as you have and a few you haven't. I'm in the process of "thinking about" making a video on why I've made the mods I've made. Thanks again for sharing the midwest landscapes. And also for turning me on to Baxter Cycles. I've received three shipments from them now. I wish there was a place like that near here!
MC's inside, cars outside.. just as it should be. 😃 great looking Himmi, you've done a great job of personalizing it. The deer were no doubt thinking, that's one cool ride.
Go to dealer, ask them to up the voltage on the throttle position sensor to.70 and increase fuel delivery with the computer and adjust the clutch and it should not be a problem.
Hi! Follow this bike since 2017 but never have the guts to buy one because of bad feedback from some owners and the lack of quality Control of some things like, chassis issues, bad welding, stalling and other minor stuff and other causes that i saw and felt when i riding one in a test ride. I bought a Suzuki 250 Vstrom that i love, no issues of any kind but once in a while still sneak for this RE. Maybe one day!...
All the issues you've mentioned are true concerns. I've had the stalling problems but think that has been resolved...finally. Thought my Himalayan does have warts it's also very reliable. Bottom line for me? The Himalayan is so much fun to ride that I'm willing to put up with some problems, as long as they don't effect reliability. Love this bike. The Suzuki, any Suzuki, will always be a very good motorcycle. Wahoo!
I also have the '21 and it also suffers from intermittent idling issues, 95% when its just been started up cold, 4% after starting hot, 1% actually works normal ... do not like the wonky fake choke lever thingy ... like you, not enough of an issue to do the recommended alterations ... if it gets worse, I will think about it ... other than that its been 3k miles without any issues ...
Not sure what that choke thing really does, wonder if it's hooked up to anything or if it's just there to make me feel like I'm doing something...lol! Great bike with a few peculiarities. Wahoo!
I’m not familiar with REs fuel injection, but if this was happening with a car, I’d be looking at the ambient air temperature sensor. They tend to go bad and cause these kind of problems
I heard on another you tube review that replacing the relays with Bosch ones upped the idle speed and reduced/cured the stalling issue. It's you have a euro 4 engine the booster plug thing should help (based on my experience of fitting my DIY version on a Ducati monster).
What kind of mpg do you get from the Mower and top speed? Ok jokes aside great bike. One thing that puts me off the Scram and the Himi is the exhaust coloration. I'd be tempted to remove the extra "mudguard" on the himi...
I go back and forth on that exhaust coloration issue, both on the head pipe and the muffler section. Sometime I look at it as patina and other times as sh#t. Would like to have a nifty pipe system from head to tailpipe but so much money. Mower is slow but I'm even slower!

Hello, That's a CalSci windshield made in Missouri. Very large but I do like it. Here is a video I made on it. Wahoo! ruclips.net/video/yYiu_qEge4Y/видео.html
Great video, enjoyed it! I have a 2018 bs4 himmy that I've had since new, i also had a versys 650 before the himy, i have to agree with you, the himy is so much more fun and enjoyable to ride!! I also had stalling issue but it turned out to be a pinched breathing pipe to fuel tank 👍 ride safe!
Thank you. I still have a Kawasaki versys 650. It's a great bike and lots of fun also. However, when I go out to my garage it's usually Himalayan that I want to throw a leg over. Also had the breather pipe problem myself on this one. Ended up putting a new computer in the bike too. Even with problems I've had with her she's still my favorite motorcycle. Wahoo!
funny I had the same problem with stalling at idle and the shop said it was the same, a pinched breathing pipe to the fuel tank. Go figure, sounds like a universal problem or just a programmed response. Although the problem is much better, it still happens from time to time.
@@danielben-avraham1539 i too still get a stall once in a while, always cold and at the end of my road when i pull the clutch, it happens more often straight after an oil change for some reason, maybe oil is thicker and engine has to work harder..... Who knows!
Love the Honda 300 Rally and think that it's probably a better bike overall in the ruff stuff. It's lighter and actually has more power than the Himmy. The Himmy may be more comfortable and easy going overall though. Seat on the Rally looks thin. The Himmy would probably be a much better pavement bike/long ride bike. If I was going to ride dirt 75% or more of the time then I'd get the Rally. If you want a good gonna go ride 200 miles of road today bike, I'd get the Himmy. Also, the Honda is probably going to be far more reliable. Love both bikes a lot.
Where did you get the windshield? I would send you a photo of the seat I had done, which 100% made my bike Uber comfortable, but you can't attach photos here. The 150$ for the custom seat was worth every penny
I got the windshield from baxtercycle.com it is a Cal Sci windshield made for this bike. Would love to see a picture of that seat. Can you post one at our forgotten motorcycles Facebook page? Thank you and hope to see that picture. Wahoo!
The windshield is a CalSci brand that I picked up at Baxter Cycle, baxtercycle.com. Love the windshield but did have to modify the attachment system after a few thousand miles. The original Himalayan hardware didn't handle the load. I spend about $3 on new nuts & lock bolts from our local hardware store. Love this windshield. Wahoo!
Whats the longest distance you’ve ridden? I’m about to do 600 kilometers, temperatures in Europe are climbing and I can expect 35 to 40°C. Would you ride for 10 hours straight?
I've done 377 MI, that's about 600 plus kilometers, in a day. I kept it between 60 and 65 the whole time and did not have any trouble. If it's hot out you might want to go slower. I've got just a 12,000 miles on my Himalayan now and she's still running strong. Funnest motorcycle I've ever owned! Let me know how it goes. Thank you
Hey man, so tell me what you think about this bike, i'm thinking in buy, but i see youtube's video much people complaining. I'm in Brazil okay. Thanks for you video
I bought mine last October and have about 12,000 miles on it. It's been a lot of fun. Probably the funnest motorcycle I've ever owned. If I could only have one motorcycle right now it would be my Himalayan.
Okay, the DR 650 is one of my favorite bikes...on paper because I've never rode one...yet. It's 70 lbs lighter than the Himmy, has twice the power, more suspension travel and ground clearance...the list goes on. It's a real single track/off road knight and I'm sure a far more capable bike. The Himmy is probably more comfortable and easy going to ride...I also like the looks of the RE over the DR. If you are looking for a very capable, rugged bike you can't really go wrong with the DR 650...If you get one please look me up...lets do a video. Wahoo!
The 3/4 helmet is a Westt brand I got off of Amazon. It worked well. It also saved my life on July 24 when I had to swerve for a deer. 10 days on a trauma floor at Nebraska medical. Lots of broken ribs, busted clavicle, a trashed elbow, among other things...but no head injury. I also have a Bell Qualifier and have just ordered a new HJC...I think that's the brand. The Westt will sit on a shelf in my living room. It really took a hit. Wahoo!
You should of replaced the chain with a X ring chain ( most OEM chains bikes come with are not the best quality and stretch easy ) I got all my bike seats modified in recent years at my local upholster - that way I get the seat that’s just right for my butt 😂😂😂. Yes do the Air box mod and a different pipe ( to open that engine up ) it will solve the stalling problem and give it a bit more power . 👍 Paul from Australia 🇦🇺
Hello Paul, I've got to get myself to Australia some how some day. Factory chain is an X ring type but I'm with you on thinking aftermarket would be much better quality...next chain. We do have an upholsterer here...I live in a very rural area, I'm going to chat with here about redoing my old seat. Air box mod and pipe...I see something like this in my future...near future? Wahoo!
@@forgottenmotorcycles Yes I live in a smallish town in Australia, Most upholsterers would have done motorcycle seats at some point but just to let them know how you want it 1. Describe how you want it where you want it raised or lowered etc . Pretty much all upholsterers will put a comfort form over the top 2. DO NOT get it recovered until you take it for a LONG test ride around 70 miles - obviously not if it’s raining 🌧😂, 3. After returning the seat get any final adjustments done ✅ and if you want take for another small test to check . 4. Get recovered with original cover ( cheaper ) or something else . 5. We all have different butts so seats made to suit 😂👍.
Occasionally when pulling up to a stop sign or light the bike would just die hit the button start right back up. Has the bike gain miles and did it less and less. When I took mine to the dealer they wielded in the back 30 minutes later 90% of the problem was gone. Took it back a second time 30 minutes later no more problem. Apparently the 2021 model in particular likes to do this stalling. I've got 16,000 miles on mine now and she does not stall anymore.
@Forgotten Motorcycles Thanks for the swift reply It was much appreciated. I was thinking more along the lines of 'what' is actually causing this issue rather than the effect 🤔 something is quite obviously wrong somewhere with the fuel injection mapping or a software issue with the ecu ??? You would expect some small amount of glitchyness Or surging with the throttle to engine response as its all Rather cheap and built down to a price but not keep stalling and cutting out. Having to pay out for 'booster plugs' to my mind isn't addressing the root cause. This is the reason I cannot stand fuel injection, all a lot of over complicated nonsense that completely spoils the show , give me a Delorto phf carburettor any day of the week . Kind regards and happy new year 🎉 😊

Wahoo!
Really? I'm just over 25,000 now. I hope mine doesn't start doing this, I don't need the aggro or expense man. 😐
Est ce que vous avez changer la chaîne de distribution les claquements peuvent venir de la à 40000km faut y penser pour un monocilyndre
Wahoo!
Thanks Fuzzy. Great job. Enjoyed your video. God bless. Happy trails.
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m with you here that I’ve also owned several other bikes all of which cost more than my Himmy but there is just something about this bike that makes it so enjoyable to ride.
Himalayans are FUN! My other bikes are feeling neglected...lol!
It's great that you're loving this machine so much. Sounds like it was a good addition to your life. Subscribed. 🙂
Love your videos...Have been subscribed to your channel for a while...You live in a beautiful part of this world. Wahoo!
FYI Your original videos featuring the Seattle to Alaska by Himalayan had a great effect on my decision to buy the bike. Your story telling & videography skills are excellent. Thank you!
🙂🤝
Thanks Bud.From my research nothing beats the standard air filter for efficiency. K&N will breathe better but there's far more silica in the oil :(. If you want it to breathe better try that opened up air intake (and avoid deep water crossings).
My Himmy is on gravel all the time so the silica/oil thing is very important. Paper filters do work well and are cheap. I may make an open cover for the air filter myself. PS I don't even like shallow water crossings. Wahoo!
Love the crimson star and the Sasquatch decals and sidestand pad.
Thank you, I wanted more red on the tank and of course, any good Himalayan owner chases Bigfoot😁
Unfortunately the motor on mine is blown thinking about doing the big bore kit and a cam.
I think that's a good idea. Cam and big bore can't work well together.
The stalling is a EVAP line fix, that and a homemade booster plug stopped stalling
What rating for the thermistor and do you wire it in series or parallel for the homemade booster?
Will check that... Again.
If your Himalayan is NOT Euro 5 compliant (i.e. it still has an air intake sensor),
Hitchcock's says that a Booster Plug can be installed - which will enrich the mixture on acceleration.
Thank you! Have had mine about 8 months and just love it. She loves the gravel roads. Wahoo!
Great video, thank you. I am not able to find the windshield manufacturer website, if you could write it down I would appreciate it. Best regards.
calsci.com/ give this link a try. I got mine at baxtercycle.com
Would love to see a video of your bike and what you've done with her. You live in a beautiful part of this wonderful world. Wahoo!
I have the 2022 , Lake Blue.
Where did you get the saddle bags from?
Bags were off of Amazon. Have the same ones on my HD. Not waterproof but they work well enough. Wahoo!
MC's inside, cars outside.. just as it should be. 😃 great looking Himmi, you've done a great job of personalizing it. The deer were no doubt thinking, that's one cool ride.
Thank you, I love this bike. Lots of fun. Wahoo!
Go to dealer, ask them to up the voltage on the throttle position sensor to.70 and increase fuel delivery with the computer and adjust the clutch and it should not be a problem.
It's a great bike. I should be back to the dealer very soon. Wahoo!
Wahoo!
Wish you thousands of miles of happiness riding your awesome bike. Like Scram 411 to, and yes, the riding position is top. Kind regards
Nice video you have to calibrate the compass just get a Magnet held by a screwdriver and move in circular motions behind the compass
Thank you :-) I shall try that with my compass right away.
@@critterIMHO good point. That was moved on the following year.
I heard on another you tube review that replacing the relays with Bosch ones upped the idle speed and reduced/cured the stalling issue. It's you have a euro 4 engine the booster plug thing should help (based on my experience of fitting my DIY version on a Ducati monster).
I didn't even have to adjust my chain until 6000 miles.Keep it clean and lubed.
Maybe I just got a bad chain?
Hi your compass needs to be celebrated read your manual, mine done the same thing and now it’s working.
Oh yes, I've recalibrated that compass several time. No luck. :)
@@forgottenmotorcycles Just about to go see some after the coffee has kicked in. Shame cant send you some pics...
Well am thinking about filming but dont have a gopro or a chan name.
Was thinking "Wryd rider" but that's a bit cryptic if u dont know ancient history😂
@@MauriceTarantulas take some pictures and post them to forgotten motorcycles on Facebook. I wish you too bad an option posting pictures for subscribers. You should start a channel. Love is kind of videos.
Entertaining video!😎
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
What is that wind screen set? Where did you get it? Kallside? Missouri?
Who knows!
How would Himalayan stack up to. Honda 300 rally
Wahoo!
@@forgottenmotorcycles I requested joining the group
Nice video. Where did you get the windshield upgrade?
Have you ever had the Suzuki DR 650 ?? If so , how does it compare???
Okay, the DR 650 is one of my favorite bikes...on paper because I've never rode one...yet. It's 70 lbs lighter than the Himmy, has twice the power, more suspension travel and ground clearance...the list goes on. It's a real single track/off road knight and I'm sure a far more capable bike. The Himmy is probably more comfortable and easy going to ride...I also like the looks of the RE over the DR. If you are looking for a very capable, rugged bike you can't really go wrong with the DR 650...If you get one please look me up...lets do a video. Wahoo!
Not really problems, you have to customize every bike. I had to do it to my Road King
Great little bike. Having lots of fun with it. Wahoo!
Steering head bearings go out about the mileage you have. Take care.
I'm ready...🫣
Odd question, but what kinds of helmet is that you're using?
Wahoo!
@@forgottenmotorcycles Yes I live in a smallish town in Australia, Most upholsterers would have done motorcycle seats at some point but just to let them know how you want it
1. Describe how you want it where you want it raised or lowered etc . Pretty much all upholsterers will put a comfort form over the top
2. DO NOT get it recovered until you take it for a LONG test ride around 70 miles - obviously not if it’s raining 🌧😂,
3. After returning the seat get any final adjustments done ✅ and if you want take for another small test to check .
4. Get recovered with original cover ( cheaper ) or something else .
5. We all have different butts so seats made to suit 😂👍.
You have to reset the compass
Have done all kinds of things to reset that compass. What is it that you do? Thanks
Okay, I'm sold
Love this bike. Wahoo!
love the sasquatch's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are fun!
omg big foot - foot - for the kick stand hehehehhe
Made that myself. Wahoo!
What's this stalling business all about, I've heard this mentioned often 🤔
You would expect some small amount of glitchyness
Or surging with the throttle to engine response as its all
Rather cheap and built down to a price but not keep stalling and cutting out. Having to pay out for 'booster plugs' to my mind isn't addressing the root cause. This is the reason I cannot stand fuel injection, all a lot of over complicated nonsense that completely spoils the show , give me a Delorto phf carburettor any day of the week .
Kind regards and happy new year 🎉 😊
These are not serious problems, other more expensive motorcycles have bigger problems for big wallets.
Love my Himalayan. You are right, all these problems are trivial and easy to resolve...without that fat wallet. Wahoo!
If thats the funnest bike you've owned, then you haven't owned that many or rode much.. maybe you should get out more?
I live in a cave LOL
Get DID chain
Think I will next chain...
