Hello Sue. This trail is a great one for beginners because it's safe with only minor road and highway crossings. It's also interesting. I did it on a road bike with racing tires, not a good idea, but luckily the track was in good condition. Try not to go just after heavy rains as there are likely to be washouts and loose sandy spots. I plan to do the ride again before the end of the year. Good luck.
Hi Ethan. Yes. I followed the rail trail all the way. i miscalculated the water in the last 20 or so km. There are many water stops along the way at the small towns. 4l should be plenty but you have to judge this for your self depending on weather.
Hi Carl, we are getting back on our bikes after a few years off, our question, what do you think of the track for beginners one way Ballarat to Skipton please ?
Hi Mr Parow, may I ask if you did follow the trail map from ballaratskiptonrailtrail.com/ and at the end of trip you were running out of your water, so will 4L water be enough for a return ?

Glad to hear you fared better than I
Good effort! I ride 'bits' of the trail quite often but will one day do the entire length and back - 10 hours is a long day in the saddle!
