HOW TO INSTALL THE PRO-SPAN™ EXPANSION REPAIR COUPLING
In this video, we’re going to show you how to repair a broken pipe with the Pro-Span expansion repair coupling. The unique Pro-Span coupling features a patented locking mechanism that makes the repair process easier.
    MATERIALS NEEDED
    NDS Pro-Span Expansion Repair Coupling
    Sch 40 coupling
    PVC primer and glue
    Permanent marker
    Pipe cutter or hack saw
    CUTTING THE PIPE
Locate the crack or break in the pipe that needs repairing.
Apply primer and glue to the inside of the Schedule 40 coupling.
Firmly press the coupling onto the piston end of the Pro-Span repair coupling.
Compress the piston end into the body of the Pro-Span repair coupling.
Center the Pro-Span repair coupling on the crack or break in the pipe. Using the marker, mark the pipe a ½ inch from both ends of the repair coupling. This is where you’ll cut the pipe.
Cut the pipe with the pipe cutter or hack saw.
Be sure to remove any dirt and debris from the inside of the pipe.
    INSTALLING THE REPAIR COUPLING
Apply primer and glue to one side of the pipe.
Firmly press the piston end with the coupling of the Pro-Span repair coupling onto the pipe and rotate a quarter turn to ensure a secure connection.
The Pro-Span repair coupling has a patented Grip-Lock feature that prevents the piston from spinning when inserting onto the pipe to make installation easier.
Apply primer and glue to the other side of the pipe.
Extend the Pro-Span repair coupling and slide it onto the pipe and rotate a quarter turn, and you’re done.
The NDS Pro-Span expansion repair coupling’s features make it easier to repair broken pipe.

It worked great, first time I ever fixed a sprinkler pipe.

I followed instructions to a "T." Now my Pro-Span is leaking from the water-meter end. A professional plumber told me that most leaks he's seen are from these type of fittings. How do I get the area DRY enough to apply Oakey Primer & Glue enough to keep it dry? Water keeps seeping out of the Water Main even though I've dried both ends out a zillion times?

The video and soundtrack describe applying primer/glue to only the male pipe at the cylinder end, not to the inside of the cylinder. Why?

You don’t need that much glue

Does it matter where the water pressure is coming from when installing or water flow can come from either end of the pro-span?

no matter, just be sure to fully extend.

This one is better, no union. Just fully extend when joining ends.

  • @fernesal

Should I extend it all the way or it will be fine at any size?

@@j.e.christo213 well, I don't. That's the easy part of it. Just make sure you don't cut more than it reaches. If it gets to the other end, you leave it there even if not fully extended.

    • @user-jd5sj8jx7r
      @user-jd5sj8jx7r 2 года назад

According to NDS you need to extend it at least 1.5", basically a little past the point where you start feeling resistance.

Video is incorrect. The locking mechanism only works for the extension tube to be connected when fully compressed into chamber, not when extended outward. There is also a "glue well" inside the chamber end to collect/hold excess glue when compressing onto male pipe end. Thus not allowing excess glue to seep inside chamber. This "slip fix" is better the ones that have a union attached to them, such as the Homewerks brand. Union adds another leak point.
