Also Southamptons unbeaten run needs context applied. They were awful at the start of the season against top half teams. Their wins in the unbeaten run haven't been against any top half teams except Leeds. They have been very poor against top half teams and they have done tough games coming up, Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester, west Brom away before the end of the season.
Williams and Dickie in particular were great. They have had a better performing defence up to this point in the season despite their midtable place too. It happens... credit where it's due. Southampton have a game in hand over the top two and they're still on for automatic promotion after a rough start having lost four in a row. It's not the end of the world... *shrug*

You get 'fans' like Curtis at every club, when it's all going well they brag about who they are and what they are going to do to other sides. Then the team suffers a set back and they jump on some players not good enough, disgrace to the shirt, etc. they give it out and as a result when there is a set back they know they are going to get it back with interest and they're not able to take it. I heard it from some Leicester 'fans' when they had a bit of a blip. I've heard it from some Ipswich 'fans' and I've heard it from some Leeds 'fans'. The moral if you're not able to take the ribbing and abuse when your team has a blip then don't give it out when they are doing well.

There is a huge pitfall in winning the Championship in that your first game in the EPL is against the defending Champions and almost invariably the promoted side gets hammered. Second gets you a much easier fixture against a middle table side. At the end of the day you are trying to get into the EPL and stay there.

We had to lose eventually. What a run though. So good to see it. We all want to get promoted but if that doesn’t happen I won’t be upset. I love the championship, only down side is the fact I know very few players we come up against this season. I think second place will come down to the last game of the season and I can’t wait. To call the Bristol game a disgrace is so far over the top, we had a championship quality side in the prem last season and we’ve got one now too. The fact is apart from a few gems the rest of the squad really are league one/championship quality and they’ve seriously over performed. Credit it to them, a lot of the players have been outstanding. Most of them are very very young and will progress into quality players as they gain experience and knowledge. The future is bright for us. I agree with Jason, the caller is a disgrace himself. the problem is, we have no runners in the midfield. smallbone is weak and slow. we missed downes, he’s the engine and we look completely different without him. the frustrating thing is we’ve gone on this unbeaten run and we’re fighting for 2nd when in another season we’d comfortably have a top 2 finish, i think that’s what is hard for me and other saints fans to accept. i don’t fancy our chances in the play offs so it’ll be championship football again but with a worse squad and we’ll be stuck in the league for years.

He never did anything with Swansea at this level were you take managers like Corberan, who took a very poor Huddersfield team to the play off finals and has turned West Brom from battling relegation to the brink of the play offs. Farke took a lower mid table team in Norwich who were comparable to Swansea now and on a shoestring budget won the league with them, Bielsa took a fourteen placed Leeds and with no additions had them narrowly miss out on automatic promotion then win the league the next year after signing 2 players. These are successful managers at this level. Martin had no pedigree apart from being able to dominate the ball and still lose a lot with Swansea. He is not of the calibre to manage a side like Southampton, anybody could do what he has done with that squad this year and most would hope to have done better.

We had to lose eventually. What a run though. So good to see it.
We all want to get promoted but if that doesn’t happen I won’t be upset. I love the championship, only down side is the fact I know very few players we come up against this season. I think second place will come down to the last game of the season and I can’t wait.
To call the Bristol game a disgrace is so far over the top, we had a championship quality side in the prem last season and we’ve got one now too. The fact is apart from a few gems the rest of the squad really are league one/championship quality and they’ve seriously over performed. Credit it to them, a lot of the players have been outstanding. Most of them are very very young and will progress into quality players as they gain experience and knowledge. The future is bright for us.
I agree with Jason, the caller is a disgrace himself. Another plastic fan for me. I hate it when our fans moan about Smallbone too, he’s been one of our top performers this season and scored some important goals.
Southampton had a lot of possession in first half but didn't go anywhere. Very boring. Bristol City out classed them in the end and looked more exciting. City will be in the play offs and probably meet Southampton again and beat them again. We are on the up.

the problem is, we have no runners in the midfield. smallbone is weak and slow. we missed downes, he’s the engine and we look completely different without him. the frustrating thing is we’ve gone on this unbeaten run and we’re fighting for 2nd when in another season we’d comfortably have a top 2 finish, i think that’s what is hard for me and other saints fans to accept. i don’t fancy our chances in the play offs so it’ll be championship football again but with a worse squad and we’ll be stuck in the league for years.

From a general point of view Championship is a really tough league and every team fights till the end. I mean Leicester have lost odd few games but it was a blip and teams like Bristol City are a good team they are not in danger of relegation. Southampton have been very good I mean 26 games unbeaten it's good feat. But in truth everyone loses games here and there.
I empathise with Curtis only because the level of competition is so high. In a normal season Southampton could afford to lose against bristol on tuesday but this season every point will matter

New owners got in late, manager got in late, new players came in late, half the squad injured, players refused to play and our own players trying to sue us to get out of the division not to mention no money coming in because of the idiotic loan clauses of the last owners. If you guys had that going on at the start of the season you'd be sat in 6th looking up at Leeds.

How have Southampton done against the teams in the top half? Not very well. They cant defend. Leeds look the stronger team. I think Russell Martin was a poor choice it will bite you in the backside.
Beat Leeds, beat West Brom, Beat Hull, drew with Norwich, Preston and Coventry. Beat Bristol City at home. Please tell us more about why the man who delivered our longest undefeated streak in over a century was a poor choice. I bet you have incredible knowledge to share.
If you don't get promoted it's a failure. The way you have played against the better teams in the division I don't see you winning the play offs. Your point hall against teams in the top half is poor. You have the hardest run in of the three teams chasing 2nd and now it's no longer in your hands it's in Leeds hands.

He never did anything with Swansea at this level were you take managers like Corberan, who took a very poor Huddersfield team to the play off finals and has turned West Brom from battling relegation to the brink of the play offs. Farke took a lower mid table team in Norwich who were comparable to Swansea now and on a shoestring budget won the league with them, Bielsa took a fourteen placed Leeds and with no additions had them narrowly miss out on automatic promotion then win the league the next year after signing 2 players. These are successful managers at this level. Martin had no pedigree apart from being able to dominate the ball and still lose a lot with Swansea. He is not of the calibre to manage a side like Southampton, anybody could do what he has done with that squad this year and most would hope to have done better.
