Are there not meta-markets that override any individual market, say in stocks and shares? I’m thinking here of the worldwide flow of capital, controlled by a very few institutions and individuals that’s searching for ever greater returns else gets hidden away from the markets. This capital can, I believe, be larger (worth more) than most nation states and can boost or drain most markets. It seems that the impact of this outweighs the idea of shareholders as such, where I think, there used to be many more shareholders around the world. Maybe Friedman’s ideas belong back in their own day and are now out of date, other than as a step in the learning process?
