@@POVwithRC the 911 and similar pay well for themselves. Every Porsche does. I know someone that assembles the engines in Stuttgart. They get paid ridiculous wages. No SUV subsidizes anything. And just bcs it says on the plate, does not mean it's a real Porsche.
google domains being sold is DEFINITELY a main topic!!! I would argue this has a larger direct impact on more people than the twitch news, thanks Luke!
Speaking of treating streams like radio, I still don't get why Twitch and YT don't have a *sound only* toggle that would get rid of the video and chat data streams. It would save both them and the users a ton of bandwidth and processing power for those cases when you genuinely want to have the stream/video sound playing while doing something else.
They already make the video super low quality if you leave it playing and switch tabs. I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually pauses. I noticed RUclips on the desktop actually pausing the video stream if I switched away from the tab without PiP enabled for long enough.
The entire discussion about apple products has me in tears because at work I literally have a sheet when going through the audit log to try and figure out what a client's device is since no one ever knows! The absolute worst question to ask a client is what their device and iOS is. Clients think I am speaking a foreign language.
@@zblurth855 Maybe a bad comparison. Even car guys tend to have limited knowledge of their tires, unless they're racing. This is more like how most people don't even know what engine is in the car they drive. Hell, I've met people that don't even remember the MODEL of car they drive. And that's exactly the same thing as not knowing which iPhone you have or what IOS it's running, in my opinion.
Luke saying he doesn't understand the hate for bethesda is literally the hottest take I've seen on this show, my brother in christ how can you experience the exact same bugs in every game they've ever made for over 20 years?!?!?!
@@jase_allen I think they just cloned Luke so that they can have him both work for Floatplane and LTT. They made the clone younger so that it reminds us of "back in they day" when we were all younger.
Luke, you should DEFINITELY take them to small claims court. And anyone else who has them and can do so. Because when that $4 isn't challenged, and done to thousands of people, that is a lot of money they've stolen from people. And with time, that $4 they've been getting away with is likely to grow incrementally.
Agreed, there needs to be that one person petty enough to take them to small claims because that one person over their $4 will be saving hundreds of thousands of dollars for other people that are just throwing away money because a company is unfairly operating.
Agreed also as it may affect your credit rating… well it does in the UK, not sure of financial regs in Canada, but they rely on apathy to, and Leo Getz would say.. They fuck you at the drivethru!!!
It was the first time I've actually laughed out loud while listening to the wan show, not just snorted or breathed out through my nose. An excellent joke.
My best guess at Twitch's new deal is they want the 70-30 split to apply to as few people as possible. I reckon the revenue range where it applies is one few streamers get to, and those that do only stay within it for a short while. Can't find any data to back this up, it just looks to me like they tried to get the most PR for their dollar.
My benefit of the doubt reading is that it's supposed to keep the lower income full time streaming viable as it gets you around minimum wage Only issue is that minimum wage in the US hasn't been a living wage in the qualified streamers' lifetime
@@fish3977 To be fair, it hasn't been since the civil rights movement that minimum wage has been a living wage, because every time they increase it, everything around it skyrockets in price. Australia is a magnificent example of inflation caused by minimum wage increases.

I believe the reason that the specs for Cyberpunk were increased is that they were originally for the older gen consoles. Those old specs look pretty in line with those. Now that they don't have to dumb down the engine, they're shooting for more modern specs.
The capacitor water bottle should have RE LTTSTOR and the capacity value running up the rest of the sides in slightly bleeding font, just like actual aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Bonus points if you add electrolytic sports drink powder with the order.
Agreed, I was looking forward to this design since they first teased it over a year ago. I feel like they had a better design at that point. Not really a fan of the design they ended up with.
1:49:37 the first mandatory system requirement update I know of was for EverQuest in 2001 for the shadows of luclin expansion. It was a major engine update that moved to Direct x 8 (I believe it also ended support for the Glide API) The bump in system requirements for the expansion applied to all users regardless of whether you bought the expansion.

Hearing Linus talk about speaking and what he really wants to talk about made me realize he should be a guest on some other podcasts. Lex Friedman comes to mind, I believe he's in Austin, which is a decent tech city and I believe you've been there before. It would probably be doable to arrange a sit down chat with him for a few hours before getting on a plane if you're in town for a trade show.
35:00 good on linus for doing that. When i built my first pc i had absolutely no clue and tried to put two low end graphics cards into my system and one guy who saw my order called an recommended i switch to a gtx 275. Should have been a nobrainer at the time but i was clueless.
I don't know why but I associated the wooden PC case with Canada very strongly. All it's missing is a tank in the front panel behind the wood panel filled with maple syrup and a little spigot on the front. Boom put it on your counter top and have kitchen gaming so you don't even have to leave your PC for snacks
I really hope Linus gives Tears of the Kingdom more time. I kind of felt the same way when I was still on that first Island at first. Once you get down to the ground the game really does suck you in even more so than BotW did.
I hope he sees this because you're absolutely right. He really looks about 10 years younger, quite the strapping young lad lol. Linus always looked young tbf.
Linus, you're really wrong about the source code stealing thing on Kick from the leak Twitch had... the tech stack is completely different on Kick which basically makes it utterly incompatible with anything that leaked. It's not hard to replicate a UI of a website, but the actual underlying tech stack is completely different. Twitch uses Typescript/GraphQL/React while Kick is using PHP/Laravel/Vue.js, they look awfully similar, but there's no sneaky copyright infringement here. The Twitch mentions in the API is coming from Twitch's own API, so, they're getting traffic in a way from Kick too.
On the topic of games you've bought increasing hardware requirements (around 1:45:00), Satisfactory has just increased their minimum hardware requirements, though in their defense, the game is still in Early Access, and the game is being upgraded from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5.

I agree w/ Luke's take on the Fake vs Real ads thing. I remember some sports game proposed doing something similar with real ads in the stadium, and people got up in arms about it. My response was just "Well in this day and age, especially for a game that likely maintains online multiplayer, if a company can get money to plaster their virtual sports stadium with real ads instead of fake ones, and use the money to offset prices of maintenance, development, etc... the more power to them!" It's not like we don't KNOW what it means when a company has a fake ad for jPhone or WcRonalds or something anyway.
Real ad spots in games has happened for awhile now. Obama bought ad spots in madden 09 and burnout paradise, Saints row 2 had netflix ads, pretty much every need for speed around that time also had ads, hell the og crazy taxi had pizza hut and kfc ads. The one you're thinking of is most likely the ea ufc attempt which was a full screen ad and not a billboard or banner.
@@Tagiau There were official freeware releases of Far Cry and a bunch of other games during the 00s. The catch was them rendering advertisement banners for stuff like MCdonalds. I think it was between 2005 up to around 2008.
Regarding the Cyberpunk2077 minimum system requirements; uh ya, they said 780 minimum, that was a lie. It struggled to run on a 780. Them changing the minimum requirements isn't actually blocking anyone out it's setting a more reasonable baseline to what it actually is so you don't go and buy a 780 as a stopgap right before a gpu shortage.
I once provided support for a trucker that was running a Netgear NAS on his truck. Long story short, he ended up swapping all disks for SSDs as the HDDs were dying in months, when not in weeks due to the vibrations. This at a time when SSDs were about 100x more expensive than HDDs (2014)
1:22:00 I think a good addition could be an "issue tracker" to see if there's patterns of issues, you'd also need some validation but if you have the users just fill out some basic information this could be powerful to map quality issues etc. over a longer time.
You could probably do it thru the serial number/aporox location of the product. Aka, I (city) have an issue with my product (serial 123) which is xyz. This would be a really cool feature. Kind of a bug report for a product. Afterwards, ltt could run data processing to recognize patterns.
12:31 When Linus said "its literally Twitch" earlier and Luke was like "no its not, I know" I was worried for a second he might sued for slander - then I saw the UI - its LITERALLY Twitch, but green.
I like the 10 year younger Luke. I can actually see his face expressions now and see when he smiles. Sometimes I just didn't see that and thought he is serious

I mean the North African crowd seems to be active on YT but it appears that West and East Africans are strangely absent. Any idea why this might be the case?
It was very nice of the community to add the timestamps but, considering how long episodes have become, it's not ok for LTT to upload the video without timestamps.
Technically they're not uploading anything, because this is just RUclips taking the vod and making it a video. So unless they employed somebody to make the timestamps as the stream was going and then up the description pretty much right as the stream finished then there's no way they could do that until Monday

The #1, #2, and #3 things I absolutely wish Bluetooth would solve are: 1) Enable ultra-low latency for audio (to replace proprietary dongles). 2) Enable higher bandwidth to allow for full duplex HD audio (even AirPods switch to low quality when the mic is used; also to replace proprietary dongles). 3) Enable high refresh rates for HID devices (to replace mouse dongles). I have no idea why these problems were solved by Logitech, Razer, Corsair, etc., over a decade++ ago, but Bluetooth still sucks at this.
What Kick is doing reminds of how Mixer entered the market. Spend a bunch of money, steal top streamers from Twitch, hope it turns out... Then Microsoft pulled the plug and had to honour the contract agreements and lost even more money paying streamers that simply moved back to Twitch anyway. My only concern is that if Kick goes bankrupt, wouldn't streamers with HUGE payouts like XqC not get that payout?

Bethesda hasn't released a good game in over a decade. And FO4 was not up to standards. I don't care what anybody says. It had massive core issues with the entire story and questing system. And you can't even fix it with mods, because it would require an overhaul of ALL the quests in the game. I think there might have been other ways it was broken too, but the dialogue and questing issues are the biggest ones by far. Also, for the record, Oblivion's leveling system was SHIT. The auto-balancing system was completely out of control and utterly broke the game at later levels. Thankfully, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul fixes it, but otherwise, yeah. It's bad. Really bad.
Hi Luke Lafreniere, with EA squadrons they released the game and there was a mission in single player that wouldn't run on min spec. They had people experiencing the issue publish their sys info file in the forum (which I found scary) so I reviewed them and found the min VRAM was a commonality and so I shared my observations in the forum and a few users bought slightly higher spec video cards (this was 2020 so that was a very expensive proposition at the time for something that would be cheap today) and the game then ran for them. EA took a week or two to rewrite the game to reduce draw distance on the mission in question to allow 2GB of VRAM to be enough but temp banned me from their forum for publicly talking about it and then rebanning and removing my post when I apologised for not reply to questions people put to me as a I was knowledgeable and informing them about what the issue was. The reason they rebanned me was becuase I said I was banned, I wasn't abusive of EA I simply said "sorry for not replying I had been banned from the forum and so couldn't reply to your question". They didn't properly test their min spec as a single 1 day play through on a min spec unit would have flagged it and then attacked the community trying to help them fix their problem. I will never buy another EA product EVER.
Unfortunately what I foresee is them listing every single fucking nut and bolt fee possible to get the majority of consumers to say fuck it and pay without caring about the details *EXACTLY* as mobile cellular ISPs did in the 90s-late 00s before they were similarly regulated further to not have 10 pages per line. It's the same exact tactic of very well appointed and paid for law firms with a *_team_* of attorneys, associates, and paralegals literally drowning their opposition in legal fees to sift through a mountain of discovery to find the truth, find what was omitted to request further discovery inquiry, or on the opposition side give up due to lack of funding (or in a self representation case or consumer reading their bills, TIME/energy/wayward optimism) --there needs to be some sort of control and regulation on this but it's definitely not happening tomorrow or without a fucking fight from a 10 or 11 figure revenue producing company. Sigh
The thing I hate most about Bluetooth and Apple is that they still use AAC and I can clearly hear the difference in quality between my Android and iOS devices connected to the same headphones/car.
@17:30 minutes in, Linus made a joke implying that Luke, due to his mustache, was at a point where he needed to start knocking on people's doors to let them know that he has moved in, insinuating that he looked like a sex offender. When he started getting backlash from this comment he replied with, "Look if you don't think it is ok to make fun of sex offenders" *shrugs his shoulders*. Using this logic, if Linus were to say "Overweight people are lazy". When met with backlash, Linus retorts, "What, you're saying it's not okay to make fun of laziness?". The real issue was body shaming, not the ridicule of laziness. This is a type of logical fallacy, often known as a straw man argument. A straw man argument involves misrepresenting an opponent's position to make it easier to attack. Linus is committing this fallacy by using a joke to negatively characterize people with mustaches, then framing any backlash as support for the negative trait he was joking about, rather than acknowledging that people might be upset about the insinuation or character defamation itself. It's interesting to note that Linus often complains about people 'straw manning' his intentions, asserting that he is a 'good guy'. However, in this instance, he appears to be doing the same thing to others. Note: I don't have a mustache, nor am I a sex offender.
this is bait and switch, not a straw man. straw man is a false/ weakened to "poorest light" characterization of a weaker more easily burned and brainless representation of the original argument..... (hence "straw" man - re: wizard of oz) BUT NOT changing the argument to something not at all what the original argument is...... that said,..... linus could have assumed the vague "hey!" outbursts meant whatever was in his head as that a "hey" doesnt really communicate a full argument....tho you cant really blame him considering whats been "political hot topic" as of late....dont forget, hes not really reading comments, hes just noticing the chat go crazy fast

Seems like they are offering for some people reduced price for contract renewal. They didn’t offer me so i moved to another provider and not i pay for gbit 45€.
Most of twitch community and Linus himself doesn't have real solution for their problems though. People want twitch to be chesper, give more money to streamers etc. And at the same time they talk how unprofitable it is. You cannot really be mad they are trying to get some profit, otherwise they will not exist. Or say that you are fine if twitch will cease to exist - fine by me.
Also let's see how xqc will do on kick, ninja went to mixxer and went back real quick, xqc loves gambling money but for now there was no person that was bigger than twitch
@@cyjanek7818 thats not the point. The point is, if your business concept isnt profitable, you better just close it. It makes no sense to completely destroy your product and make it unattractive and keep it alive.
Real adverts on in-game billboards were in ”Enemy Territory: Quake Wars” over 15 years ago. IIRC some of the ads were for Army Recruitment, so real life job ads were in the game
Although it's not a product series, the i5-7640X is in my opinion the worst cpu ever existed (yes even worse then AMD FX) not by performance, but everything it stood for at the time... A consumer platform 4c4t cpu on a x299 socket being unable to utilize half the platforms capabilities...
At 15:34 Linus says LTT avoids advertising supplements. Mac Address was sponsored by Ritual and advertised their supplements the same day as Linus said this.
I've been looking for a new job for awhile now, been doing accounting and payroll for 14 years at a family business and the owner is retiring next year. We have been transitioning clients to another accountant so I have been looking for a new job (unfortunately I have no degree so its been rough lol). But while looking for a new job I've seen hundreds of job listings (In Iowa) for trucking companies and most are paying a $2,500 sign on bonus on top of paid training to get their Class A CDL. Pretty enticing at first glance, but what most don't mention is that you are locked into a year (more longer) contract and the pay is between $14 - $18/h based on experience, plus the sign on bonus is paid out spanning 6 months AFTER you have worked with them for 6 months. It's a terrible deal that they try to make look good. If the pay was higher I would probably do it while hunting for a new desk job, and would probably keep doing it to some extent after...but it's such a raw deal it's no surprise there is a driver shortage. There are some really good ones though, but those are usually cross country jobs with hazardous materials lol. BRK Trucking pays $25/h and .58 cents per mile 2000-2200 miles average a week with 5 days on 2 days off, 78-82kannual income.
Speaking of paying extra money for things you don't need ... I broke out of the spell that I need a super powerful Nvidia or AMD graphics card. I spent hundreds less and picked up an A750, and couldn't be happier. If you are a casual gamer, it's great! Plenty of FPS, stable and affordable. Plus it came with a free copy of COD MWII.

@@RandomUser2401 why the heck do you care
@@FleaOnMyWiener Because it‘s a very concerning non-rational trend that has now even infected Europe. These lifestyle vehicles cause all kinds of problems.
@@RandomUser2401 Porsche SUVs are indeed real Porsches. Says so right on the vin tag. I'll trust them over you. And FWIW you'd best pray for their success too. Every Cayenne and Macan sold to some random Hausfrau subsidizes the development cost of your beloved 911.
Yeah, I personally have my own domain and website through google.
This is bs, they need to reverse this decision
Speaking of treating streams like radio, I still don't get why Twitch and YT don't have a *sound only* toggle that would get rid of the video and chat data streams. It would save both them and the users a ton of bandwidth and processing power for those cases when you genuinely want to have the stream/video sound playing while doing something else.
Twitch does (on android at least), I use it to listen to streams in the car every once in a while.
RUclips does it on Android. You just have to pay for it 🤔
Pretty sure twitch has that option? Or it at least used to have it
They already make the video super low quality if you leave it playing and switch tabs.

They replaced Luke with a younger Luke, so I don't think that counts.

My benefit of the doubt reading is that it's supposed to keep the lower income full time streaming viable as it gets you around minimum wage
Only issue is that minimum wage in the US hasn't been a living wage in the qualified streamers' lifetime
@@fish3977 To be fair, it hasn't been since the civil rights movement that minimum wage has been a living wage, because every time they increase it, everything around it skyrockets in price. Australia is a magnificent example of inflation caused by minimum wage increases.

Linus needs to start putting his job postings on PC Building Simulator. On the ad banners when you go to order parts would be perfect.

Football is inherently plastered in adverts anyway, if anything that would only make the game more realistic if strictly done in a diegetic manner.

@meow69696 I played it on Medium with my Original PC which was a Ryzen 7 2700 and a RX580 and Cyberpunk was installed on a M.2 SATA SSD

I just realised xQc got paid the same amount for two year contact that linus got offered for his entire company.
That guy is really getting paid.

The chat was funny. There you have all the Americans and Canadians complaining on how tired they are. You could almost sense the dark rings under the eyes. And then we Europeans pop up: oh what? We can now watch the Wan show for breakfast? Perfect! Let's go all in folks! 🤣🤣🤣
@bvbs5572 Good point! Well most people posted something like "good morning from Germany" or good morning from Sweden or so". Nice to have an African on RUclips for once!
Speaking off: I wondered for quite a while were you all are. Is RUclips less popular in your region or are you simply watching other people on YT then I do? Or are you more the TikTok crowd? I mean the North African crowd seems to be active on YT but it appears that West and East Africans are strangely absent. Any idea why this might be the case?
I actually laughed out loud at Luke's "Jesus Returning" joke, it's too perfect!
@@the_undead yup it's live
Honestly why can't they just press a button everytime they switch topics? They literally have a document of topics to talk about. It's not hard to press a button smh

This was definitely one of the funniest wan shows of all time
Googling Intel processor information will be sooo much fun!

The best part of this show was Linus realizing he was about to give the 1960's computer speech, sitting next to his pocket computer.
Luke's laugh makes me so happy.
agreed
I'm convinced that his laugh is the reason WAN is the only talk show I can actually listen to.
The mostly-shaved look on Luke is the most attractive, imo. Similarly I feel that *mildly beared* Linus may be the most attractive but I *really* want to see him clean shaven again for a one off because the sudden shock of it will be hilarious

They didn’t mention but the biggest instance of product placement I remember seeing in a game was in need for speed underground 2 where the cell provider Cingular was EVERYWHERE including it’s logo being the control for the in game phone that would be used to challenge AI drivers to a race.
I just want someone like Mozilla to get into the domain registar game because it would never make sense for them to shut it down and it would be hard for them to sell the business to someone else.
Cloudflare does a pretty good job rn
The #1, #2, and #3 things I absolutely wish Bluetooth would solve are:
1) Enable ultra-low latency for audio (to replace proprietary dongles).
Stellaris, the game you guys had no idea about when Intel updated their arc cards to support DirectX 9, allows you to revert to previous versions of the game via the steam beta menu.
15:30 MacAddress did a suppliment sponsorship in their latest Video (They didn't talk about this at WWDC). Some vitamin capsules from Ritual I think.
This whole time i thought Kik had risen from the dead and become a new twitch competitor 😂
RIGHT. I read a terrible article that had it as Kik in the title and also referred to it as Kickstarter at one point. Tbf that logo is oddly similar to Kickstarter.
Holy crap, I'm also so excited for Starfield. The latest trailer already looked a hundred times better than the footage they've shown earlier on. Can't wait to finally play that game.
Saw a funny quote about starfield: “No Man’s Sky walked so Starfield could.. also walk”.
@@systoxity true but no man's sky also fell on its face hard before it got back up but now it's running. No Mans Skyrim still has to prove itself. That said I'm super excited I'm even considering breaking my no preorder rule for those up to 5 days or early access. especially all the stuff they have shown during starfield direct. that weird antigrav blast superpower they showed at the end like WTF.
It's bad. Really bad.

The disappointment in Linus' voice when he said "I thought it was a bigger reveal" 🤣
Anything luke can't do to himself.....
Me: Imma comment something inappropriate
Linus: hold my beer
LTT really need to start doing timestamps themselves. Ive not got time to listen to the entire show.

It was actually helpful for me to hear about the Google domains thing
I'm all for these isp pricing labels. They are needed after how much bs marketing they give consumers.
Sigh
"Oh they want the details, do they? 🫡😈💩"
Capitalism. Such a great economic theory, then America said, "yeah, and how about de-regulation." Just look at the division of wealth since. Period
(hence "straw" man - re: wizard of oz)
BUT NOT changing the argument to something not at all what the original argument is......
that said,.....
linus could have assumed the vague "hey!" outbursts meant whatever was in his head as that a "hey" doesnt really communicate a full argument....tho you cant really blame him considering whats been "political hot topic" as of late....dont forget, hes not really reading comments, hes just noticing the chat go crazy fast
For me a "bad" component was Intel Optane. Did it ever really help anyone more than just buying more RAM?

It is so hard to find the last 2 WAN shows on youtube, they are not in the WAN show playlist, under podcasts, they don't appear under Linus Tech Tips - Videos according to Ctrl - F, and can only be found by searching WAN show from the top of youtube.
Holy cow, Luke got a huge glow up this week.
On the note of Internet providers: in Germany Vodafone recently increased monthly billing due to inflation. Instead of 50€ i am now paying for gbit 55€. They offered contract termination if you don’t like it. Government is discussing now if this is legal as they went outside signed contract that clearly states it costs 50€. Seems like they are offering for some people reduced price for contract renewal. They didn’t offer me so i moved to another provider and not i pay for gbit 45€.

At 15:34 Linus says LTT avoids advertising supplements. Mac Address was sponsored by Ritual and advertised their supplements the same day as Linus said this.
my first home build had a Q6600 - That machine lasted for years and last I checked was still going strong running a linux system for my old church.
32:03 umm.. The Q6700 (and those above/below it) were the competition for Quad FX… Skulltrail was like a year+ later.
