- The King's second son Prince Jaehaerys whom was now his heir after Prince Duncan's marriage to Jenny Of Oldstones would be just as much of a head ache for his father King Aegon V Targaryen. Like with Duncan matches were made for both Jaehaerys and his sister Shaera, but the blood of the dragon runs hot and the pair broke there pacts and married each other. But in a twist of fate the woods with of Jenny Of Oldstones, The Ghost Of High Heart revealed a prophecy, The prince that was promised would come from the like of Aerys and Rhaella the children of Jaehaerys and thus the Prince forced his son and daughter to wed.

Egg missed out on a lot of the royal training to survive at court and what he did get he grew to hate as he realized how many people suffered while the nobles played their games. This unfortunately made him a poor teacher to instruct his kids on making sacrifices for duty and long term benefits for others through playing along with the nobles.
I find it interesting how willing the Targaryens were to listen to the woods witch who came with Jenny. Maybe Jenny had endeared herself to the family despite all the trouble her marriage had caused, maybe it was just Targaryen desperation to have a lead on the old prophecy. Side note: after so many examples of dragon dreams where dragons die or hatch turning out to refer to Targaryens you’d think that someone would have clued in that there was a good chance the dreams were allegorical.

You paint a perfect picture of Aegon V reign and his kids breaking off their marriage packs with certain high lords not a good look at all. Definitely it didn’t hurt house Targaryen right away but came back to bite them later..
Aegon made a huge mistake by not executing the Baratheons for their rebellion. If he had executed the Baratheons, Robert would not have been able to kill Rhaegar, the Targaryens would still be alive

I think, since it becomes ever more likely that ASOIAF's last two books won't be published, the sketchy past becomes more relevant for the spin off shows rather than the readers and I am not one of them that has purchased every book that GRRM has written and I don't blame him at all if he can't finish ASOIAF, or the Dunk and Egg novellas before he can publish part2 of "Fire and Blood". The Garden is just too huge now, the weeds have taken over. The nod to Jenny of Oldstones in the song that Pod sang was one of the very few highlights to me as a book reader in the last season of GoT. Sadly, whilst funny, (and yes by this point, all of s8 had become a joke) the viewers only remembered, Pod returning from the brothel with Tyrion's sack of coins.
Aegon 5 had a plan to give his granddaughter to the Young Heir of Casterly Rock, Tywin Lannister. Tywin and Rhaella a good match.
Luckily there had been no formal betrothal in this case. Even if the match had gone through I’m not sure it would’ve been a good one-Joanna seems to have been Tywin’s perfect other half who balanced out his worst tendencies before her death.

Daemon i Blackfyre was known as that. Eustace Osgrey calls him it during The Sworn Sword. The factual accuracy of the phrase is debatable. Some count Daemon as a King others do not.

I think this Targaryen inclination to prefer each other stems from their arrogance. Anyone not from Valyria, was beneath them and distasteful.
Um no it's just part of there tradition not distaste with other people
If the Targarians do not maintain the purity of their blood, the dragons will not obey them, they will not be able to see the future in their dreams, they will lose the magic of Ancient Valeria. This is a tradition for thousands of years
