This is like a prize fight between two comedic heavyweights. I had no idea Dennis Miller could hold his own against Short’s Glick like this, hilarious episode!
Miller does fine, but I'd argue a handful of rambling pop culture references (Dennis Hopper, Midnight Express, David Cronennerg, etc.) isn't necessarily comedic; more just showing off random things he remembers
Dennis Miller got destroyed during that "suck the essence out" exchange at 3:14. Thought he was being clever, and Jiminy went in for the kill. Even Miller acknowledged the comeback.
Can you imagine Jiminy going up with today’s stars?! Chris Pratt, Tom Hiddleston, or Millie Bobby Brown?! That’d be something to see. Pratt would go along with it gleefully, Hiddleston would try to play along but be at a loss, and Brown wouldn’t be able to keep it together.
Dennis Miller is so fast and has a huge reservoir to pull from, and, is a genuine good sport, relaxed. Short is usually always on point. The better the guest, the better is Jiminy.
Jiminy Glick is so freakin' funny! I love his interviews. The funniest ones are Nathan Lane (who can't keep it together at all), Steve Martin, Bill Maher, and Jeneane Garofalo. If you notice in this interview, Martin Short almost loses @ 1:28, and I've really never seen him do that.
Check out his interview with Lorraine bracco. She asked him a question and he gets completely stuck. But it all worked out still. That's one of my favorite interviews.
Miller's not my favorite comedian (absolutely no denying his cleverness/intelligence, but not a huge fan of his delivery) but he absolutely plays his role beautifully, his 2 interviews with Jiminy Glick are among the very best.
That would be a fantastic combination. The understated Norm with the over the top Jimmy. That would be a comedic match made in Heaven. Well chosen KingLizard!
The whole point of these interviews is to see if you can get either to crack. That's a huge victory for a comedian if he can get someone to break down. The best known is Billy Crystal doing Fernando's Hideaway with Hogan and MR T. He got them real good to break character and bust out laughing.
Really miss D. Miller from the scene. I know he has reclused a few years ago on purpose. He saw the writing on the wall. It’s a shame but I don’t blame him. I’ve done the same. I think we both see the inevitable doom and choose not to participate.
Short is a true entertainer, and pure gold since he started. He only gets greater in value as the years go by. Amazingly funny, interesting, and unique. Plus never really salutes the left too much politically, which is why he can cut off his narcissistic actors by the knees the more left they are. Genius.
Fun fact: Conan O'Brien's long time producer "Jeff Ross". Nearly passed on the Conan gig because he didn't want to work with anyone because he worked with Miller and thought he was an asshole.. He thought it'd be the same with Conan..
Guests who try to out-funny Jiminy always come off as assholes. They sort of refuse to play along and can't allow him to run the show. They don't seem to realize they look ridiculous and desperate grabbing the spotlight from a fictitious character. Miller loses in this one.
+Christine L Exactly what I said. Miller loses. And it's call "Upstaging" when a guest tries to steal focus from the star. Ugh. Have to admit it was a funny interview except for the wretched last joke by Miller when he steals Martin's joke on top of everything else! He was misinformed. He thought the producers told him to go out there and do a Martin Short doing Jiminy Glick impersonation.
+suckittomcat It's improv comedy and I think Martin Short was having an off night. I know that once he gets rolling the guests are left pretty much speechless.
W. Garces Disagree re: Miller. Miller has always wanted to be a comedian with the "it" factor but never succeeded. He's not being supportive when he's clearly trying to steal focus. I've seen a lot of Martin's interviews and you can always tell the guests who are jealous from the guests who are gracious and having a good time. It's sad, really--for Miller, that is. When someone like Miller engages in this type of tactic, it throws Martin off a bit because his guest is not playing his "part". Miller is off "script" so to speak. Just a sad dick and he's not the only one.
suckittomcat I understand what you're saying and I have to agree with you. I was never a fan of DM. He's never had that "it" factor like a Robin Williams, Martin Short or Chris Rock. I understand now that Short playing the Glick character isn't supposed to switch gears and go off on Miller because the Click character isn't based on simply insulting the guests for the sake of humiliating them. I understand. You're supposed to have fun. Like the interview between Glick and Catherine O'Hara which I thought was off the cuff comedy brilliance because they played off each other. But just once I'd love for Short to morph into an insult comic like a Jeff Ross and start ripping into Miller mercilessly. Knowing the pretentious prick Miller is he'd start to chuckle with every quip directed at him then try to be a quick wit and spit out a half-assed comeback. But I'd love for Short to break just a slight bit outside of character and rip into Miller to the point of Miller crying uncle and walking off. And any other guest trying to upstage him. That'd be amazing.
If you think unintelligible arcane references are funny then have at 'er. Miller does not actually "create" with his brand of comedy. Politics aside give me one funny line Miller has written. From a comedic standpoint give one funny scenario he wrote. All the good comedians have their "bits" let's hear what you think is one of Miller's classic takes on something? He doesn't have any!!!
I love how people think that these comedians aren't all in on the joke. All of them know how brilliant Martin is and are absolutely having a blast jousting with an absolute master at improv. Trust me, they all get it! They all just bring different weapons to the battle. There is no animosity here!
I know, it's silly to think these guys are in competition and jousting to see who wins. It's like my 6 year old that needs reminded that movies aren't real.
Theres no animosity, but they dont all enjoy being made fun of. Celebrities will always go on talkshows. They know who Martin Short, but theyre not necessarily familiar with Jimmy Glick.
ummmm...errrrr.... If you guys hate Dennis Miller so much why did you waste your time watching an interview with him? And then spend time commenting. Is your time THAT devoid of value?
Dennis is confused. His role is to be the "butt" of the joke-not the jokester. But, hey, with an ego that big, he couldn't just sit there and let Martin improvise as only he can. He had to try to upstage him. Can you say, L O S E R?
I agree with the concept in general, but feel Dennis 1) had enough funny lines for it to still work here, and 2) he remained open enough to laugh at himself when Jiminy poked fun. If you want to see a Jiminy interview that clearly didn't work, see the recent one with Drake. Fucking dreadful. Someone needs to edit it with ALL of Drake's parts removed and then we'd at least have Martin's great lines.
actually you don't understand tv. If its just the same broad joke every time, no one will watch. Variety is what Dennis brought, and it makes sense in the programming.
I just watched Dennis again and he wasn't so bad. A little too much "i'm a comedian too so I think I'll tell a joke" stuff but otherwise he was a good sport and gave Martin some good opportunities. Martin is in top form here.
Watched this for Jiminy, I don't get what people like about Dennis Miller, he makes me cringe.... Never found him witty or charming or whatever he's supposed to present himself as...
My Jiminy Glick addiction is getting out of hand. I just can’t control myself.
its 4am, what am i doing...
John Willis .... your posting about your Glick addiction is getting out of control.
Methadone
Right?
Andrew Dussault It’s 3:30 am and what am I doing? Reading your comment. 😂
Best description of Scientology I've ever heard.
THAT was classic !!
Brilliant!
In a nut shell
One of the best comedic characters ever...
What do you mean?
John Guanciale - Jiminy Glick is not real he’s a character played by Martin Short.
Someone start a petition for netflix to give jiminy his show ill sigh it
Good idea
I'll sigh it to
Fuck Netflix- pedophilia' is gross with "cuties" disgusting.
So say we all!!
Whatev we can do for jiminy glick...im for!
“Baseball is when the Irish people run around in shorts, and it’s like soccer “ Jiminy your the man!!!!
The best part is watching Martin Short break character when Dennis says Apocalypse Now.
Dennis Miller peaked during his SNL years
I thought Miller was kind of an asshole in this.
Done with love
@@darshloafYeah he ruined the comedic flow with the rambling.
I realized how good Martin Short was when I only saw Glick.
Glick and Miller.
The quick and the slick.
Jeez did he take a header!
Martin Short got Miller good on the 'suck' exchange. It took Miller a while to realize what just happened. Simply, brilliant.
Miller played along like a neurosurgeon. They are absolutely PERFECT together.
Dennis Miller got destroyed during that "suck the essence out" exchange at 3:14. Thought he was being clever, and Jiminy went in for the kill. Even Miller acknowledged the comeback.
Wow!!! Thank god Martin Short remembered what comedy was!!! Amazing he invited a heckler on stage with him.
Love the set Jimmy, its very "Joe Pine"... Haha, Joe Pine... I love Joe Pine... Who's Joe Pine? Lol!
Fair play to Miller - he gave as good as he got !
I LOVE to see the guests get tickled pink by Jiminy! It’s hilarious to watch! Very delightful ❤️
When Dennis Miller realized the Suck comment and actually Claps.
It almost feels like a sporting match between two talented guys.
Fun to see Dennis Miller being interviewed by Jiminy.
Jiminy Glick would be funny interviewing a chair. Even interviewing Dennis Miller he's funny.
no one sucks in Hollywood like Dennis Miller hahahahaha
k9 aid Zing!
Dennis is the goat man
Dennis Miller seems like a self-impressed prick but when Glick fell face forward out of his chair I fucking lost it
Can you imagine Jiminy going up with today’s stars?! Chris Pratt, Tom Hiddleston, or Millie Bobby Brown?! That’d be something to see. Pratt would go along with it gleefully, Hiddleston would try to play along but be at a loss, and Brown wouldn’t be able to keep it together.
Short damn near loses it at 1:20 with the Dennis Hopper line. It's unreal he didn't break.
Jimmy gave a good description of Scientology.
“Nobody sucks in Hollywood like Dennis Miller.” 🤣👏👏
I wish this show was still on
Jiminy is in rehab again.
I'm on a jiminy glickathon lol
You know Stanley Tucci used Glick to develop Caesar Flickerman in Hunger Games.
This is improv at its best.
Miller's not my favorite comedian (absolutely no denying his cleverness/intelligence, but not a huge fan of his delivery) but he absolutely plays his role beautifully, his 2 interviews with Jiminy Glick are among the very best.
Nobody sucks in Hollywood like Dennis Miller lololol
Dennis handled this interview so well.
Didn't get rattled one little bit. 😆 LOL 👍
Dennis was scared because he knew he didn't deserve to be interviewed by Jiminy. Out of his league.
Jiminy has never interviewed Norm MacDonald..........WHY???
That would be a fantastic combination. The understated Norm with the over the top Jimmy. That would be a comedic match made in Heaven. Well chosen KingLizard!
they were almost friends but then short wanted to spend the weekend in his villa.
too weird for normie
I’d kill to see Mr. Glick interview Joey Diaz or Bill Burr.
Dennis got to say 10 times more than any other guest Jiminy ever has,
Jiminy Glick nearly met his match here. He even let out a glimpse of a smirk here and there. They highest quality comedy here.
The header on the carpet gets me every time 😂😂😂
The whole point of these interviews is to see if you can get either to crack. That's a huge victory for a comedian if he can get someone to break down. The best known is Billy Crystal doing Fernando's Hideaway with Hogan and MR T. He got them real good to break character and bust out laughing.
Have always had a crush on DM but not like that but in a straight-up wholesome brother to brother way.
I just adore that big GUY!
The guests trying to be funny are the worst
Just let him work
It's worse here because Dennis Miller has never been funny his whole life
@@Phantoma3 your accuracy on this matter is divine
Lol people are actually crapping on Dennis Miller for not getting roasted by Jiminy here.
glick is a genius character.
crying!
I’d like to see Jiminy interview an actual serial killer on death row.
Jimmy was a pole vaulter by trade!!
AWESOME
3:41 Wonderful
Epic!
1:55 i choked on a mouthful off coffee i laughed so hard
I loved him in the Net, Sandra Bullock best movie
Wowwww so good!!
hi, my name is Joe, and I'm a Glickaholic ("hello Joe!")
I feel your pain. It's a daily fix for me.
Norm Macdonald please lol
puke
Really miss D. Miller from the scene. I know he has reclused a few years ago on purpose. He saw the writing on the wall. It’s a shame but I don’t blame him. I’ve done the same. I think we both see the inevitable doom and choose not to participate.
love the show!! awesome
He laughed at Hopper lol
Dennis Miller is the only guest I've seen who had it over Martin, although Martin did get in there with that "sucks" line.
Short is a true entertainer, and pure gold since he started. He only gets greater in value as the years go by. Amazingly funny, interesting, and unique. Plus never really salutes the left too much politically, which is why he can cut off his narcissistic actors by the knees the more left they are. Genius.
I love Joe Pine!
A little wordy, this Dennis Miller
I'm a pole vaulter...privately lmaooo
Fun fact: Conan O'Brien's long time producer "Jeff Ross". Nearly passed on the Conan gig because he didn't want to work with anyone because he worked with Miller and thought he was an asshole.. He thought it'd be the same with Conan..
Dennis Miller is and has always been a genius.
-Dennis Miller
The best thing about Dennis miller is that we have carvey to imitate him
I like Republican celebrities. They are the outsiders in that particular industry.
funny crack from Miller about baseball, when was this filmed? baseball is still in trouble this time for the Houston Astros
What is Dennis Miller doing these days, a podcast maybe ??
I used to hate Dennis, I absolutely Love him now
Skip E Lowe!
I used to like Dennis. Absolutely hate him now.
Great interview 👍

+suckittomcat It's improv comedy and I think Martin Short was having an off night. I know that once he gets rolling the guests are left pretty much speechless.

Lol at all the dishonest crybabies in the comments who pretend Dennis Miller isn't funny, simply because they don't like his politics.

Love the Scientology burn
Good job Denis Miller. You owned Jiminy. Ignore the library haters
The beginning is like 2 2year Olds, playing in a sandbox, not aware of the other.
Dennis Miller is Joe Pine 4.5.
Dennis 'like a....' Miller
Dennis was not amused. He wanted to steal the comedy and attempted to make it a competition...he lost.
Maybe I'm late to the party ~ but sometimes it appears that Martin Short is channeling Larry King.
oh fuck, the comments hurt more then dennis
For a second i thought dennis miller is killing jiminy. But @3:28 jiminy's comeback saved his life. 😂😂😂👏👏👏😂😂😂
I think Dennis Miller is funny...but I do lean more to the right
I would like to see that monster in Alien leap onto Jiminy Glick's face....
ummmm...errrrr.... If you guys hate Dennis Miller so much why did you waste your time watching an interview with him? And then spend time commenting. Is your time THAT devoid of value?
Probably something to do with Martin Short, do you think?

Nothing like applying pointless rules to comedy to get the most out of it
@pressrolls Y do people hate him. I'm just wondering!!!
Was Dennis Miller funny, if so, when?
David H. The question stands.
When his hateful and pitiful conservative side reared its ugly head, he lost many fans but not David, he's a Russian sympathizer.
The funny probably goes over your head.
this video for starters!
I think the only place I've ever enjoyed him is in his interviews with Jiminy.
Was that chuck macgill
Dennis stole this show
It's hilarious how only smart people like Dennis Miller. :{J
Miller's body-language says it all: defensive, closed-off, uncomfortable, tense.
Totally agree!
@whatsitallabouthey at least not in this show
I love Short,...Miller is detestable..
Short is a genius, and Dennis Miller is a legend in his own mind…
Watched this for Jiminy, I don't get what people like about Dennis Miller, he makes me cringe.... Never found him witty or charming or whatever he's supposed to present himself as...
Didn't like Miller when he was on SNL and nothing has changed.
